@infinity580 not likely to happen. i called them and they said the systems have to be built, new systems get 1 core.

You don't get what you paid for, I paid for an availability of 24 hours and will receive the server end of next week acording to support.

Even with one core would still be a good deal considering the traffic and storage. One or two real cores (2-4 threads) makes little difference for a backup box. Since they say torrenting is forbidden and they check it (highly doubt that, their space is filled with Tor relays and torrenters) there is nothing much to do except storage for the people that wish to keep it.

You may be able to serve some content, like owncloud/dropbox, for instance, or some php scripts to upload-download files in a hurry, but games wont run and risk ddos, suspension, cPanel hosting will work but with few sites and io will not be that good, even ssl sites will have an issue with the 1 IPv4 policy.

What I plan to use it for, is to play with a GRE tunnel for testing DDoS protection when they will launch it. I plan to make a tutorial for that, i.e. protect your game server in EU with dirt cheap dedis at OVH. Perhaps even hide it from them, though so much traffic will be hard to hide if it will hit. i will think of something. They will launch the DDoS protection in a few months, so, if they suspend it, wont be much to lose.

Hopefully this will help ppl which have this problem, either to protect their server with us or to move to OVH altogether.

For all of you complaining about the refund, have you actually been charged? When I ordered the servers from them, they always first "authorized" the payment and charged only when the order is approved (or the server is provisioned, I'm not 100% sure)

  • xsetxset Member

@tr1cky to me they just said they had old/wrong info on the website and were sorry for that and delivery can take 10 days, so you might not get it next week

  • @pcan said:
OVH will show to investors a fully booked new datacenter and a big growth on the client base

mmmm... this offer is going to hurt the overall ARPU if the customer base grow too much.

It is hard to threaten ovh :/ About a year ago we had 13 servers with them and I told them that if they couldn't fix the problem I was going to move all my 13 servers (32gb) to Hetzner. They didn't even said anything about it.

That is actually a really good idea, as a minecraft hosting I'm looking for something like this for months.

@taronyu they dont care about single customers theyre so big that they dont have to. did you move out?

Welcome to the world of physical objects. When there are more orders than objects available the missing objects have to be built first before they can be provisioned. This might be a new sound but that's how the real world works ;-)

I know, that is what I was trying to say. If LEB providers don't give what you paid for it is easy to threaten them. (No offense but if I pay for something and I don't get it I will do it) This is almost impossible with OVH :/ Only thing we can do is hope they still give early customers (ordered the evening it changed) 2 cores.

We did moved to Hetzner, but didn't moved those 13 servers.

Assuming you can even use the network. The updated AUP says backup, file storage, owncloud and friends all have no network SLA and could run at 10kb/s once the abusers kick in.

  • We'll either get 2 cores or a refund.

WTF ? Now they discriminate on usage ? Where does it say that ?

They always did that. The kimsufi never had a network SLA. However, they now extended the SLA in parts to be also applicable for the Kimsufis.

@gsrdgrdghd the sooner you cancel, the better it is for others, why not use that 1 core for what it is useful for ie. encryption of backups. with my existing ks2g i hit load 2 with 3 duplicity processes, which is just fine

Only their 1000 stock (sold out in 1 hour) had dual cores. New systems get 1 core.

That's unlikely to be true, some of the "early orderers" received Celeron 220 (1 core and that's it), some Atom N2800 (2x2HT = 4). It's a mixed bag of various CPUs as it always was with OVH, the spec on the website is only what you will get as a minimum. So on the "new systems" you will get 1 core as a minimum (duh! :D), and more, if you are lucky.

Then it does not matter, my tests show it is always at 100 mbps or close, at least from Prometeus. From what I know they are in the mix at our DC, Uncle will know better.

Not sure what you're referring to since your quote is empty.

I was referring to your presumption that their lack of response is due to a weekend in France.

That would be extremely stupid thing to do. The backups must be encrypted before they are transferred on the untrusted 3rd party server, using the untrusted 3rd party network (i.e. the internet).

  • xsetxset Member

1 core is enough for a backup box. right now my ks2g is just idling anyway.

  • @taronyu said:
    How do you know?

Because if they don't deliver what was ordered one can issue a refund via Paypal

  • xsetxset Member

@rds100 i meant double encryption :) of course my scripts encrypt on the host but i also setup duplicity on the backup box to encrypt received backups before shipping to 3 other locations

Yes, my paypal payment went through and they have my money now, even though they cancelled the order. No refund, yet.

  • @gsrdgrdghd said:

I don't think OVH does have any problems with that. Thinking of it... I'm so happy that I paid trough paypal and not with Ideal as I normally do.

i cant really complain for the price of 1 ks2g u now get 3 ! thats still a great deal

To be honest at 3 EUR for 2GB RAM / 500GB disk, I would get it even if it had a sodding Raspberry Pi for CPU.

  • xsetxset Member

@rm_ but you cant get one?

  • Does OVH allow transfers?
