To be honest at 3 EUR for 2GB RAM / 500GB disk, I would get it even if it had a sodding Raspberry Pi for CPU.

Yeah, 500 GB backup doesnt grow on trees. Even raspberry pi can do iscsi, so, who cares about cpu for backup boxes. Even RAM is redundant, 256 should suffice, it is only network and storage that counts. A disk attached to a pipe.

    but you cant get one?

Apparently I can't, as for many other people I had my orders changed to "cancelled", that seems to be because these offers are now EU-only. I filed a ticket with them yesterday (and updated it today), but no response yet.

    @taronyu yes they do:

Too bad, if I receive a server with only 1 core it is pretty much useless for me.

Edit, just saw @rm_ his post, awesome.

@taronyu see above, they allow transfers, and I think you could sell it easily on this forum to someone who's not in EU and had their own order removed. That is, if they will not object to such a transfer to non-EU customer as well.

I noticed you tagged me so I saw it :P Problem is that I'm not sure if you are able to change all your details. So it would be way easier to just transfer the service.

On the other side you are right that you can't trasfer a service to someone out the EU.

Ohh well... lets see first how long it will take and what cpu I will get.

@maounique despite your dislike towards ovh, you're actually now going to pay them, change of heart suddenly?

He want to prove he is right or want to see with his own eyes that he is wrong.

@taronyu for what do you need 2 cores?

  • lycidelycide Member

I ordered on 26th July at 0:46 AM from ovh.co.uk and have just received my KS2G. Lets see how this goes.

  • I'd be shocked if you can get 1MB/sec throughput when uploading data with AES encryption on one core celeron.

Good to hear I ordered on 26th July at 1:03am from the same site. So hopefully I'll get mine soon xD

@jack I ordered on the 25th and havent gotten one yet, you may need to wait a week

  • @xset said:

Nothing in special but 1 core is to little.

  • Everyone seems to be talking about how cheap these are yet no one is talking about the changes they have imposed into their new contracts, from what I have heard:

    • No reselling Kimsufi's whatsoever
    • Only European VAT paying customers can buy
    • Something about the network SLA being garbage

Any more? Can anyone else confirm what I have heard?

Hey, i am from EU and didn't pay any VAT. Granted they haven't taken the money yet (authorization created in paypal, now pending).

@lycide how many cores did you get?

  • xsetxset Member

@serverian theyre fine for uploading 10 MB/s with encrypted backups over scp

    Have you tested it?

  • xsetxset Member

@serverian i tested dl speed over 10 MB/s and i have my ks2g from different dc and it works just fine

Have you tested uploading on-the-fly AES encrypted backups?

@serverian I am uploading at 30+ Mbit/sec using scp to my BHS single-core Atom 1.8 GHz, and it's nowhere near CPU limited, just by distance and my home connection speed.
Can't imagine an Intel Core-based Celeron 220 will do worse than the poor Atom at encryption.

Truthfully, if I am to believe their front page right now I had better not cancel my kimsufi machine as they'll never let me order another one. Nowhere on their site (that I see) does it state that this is a limited promotion and, if it is, it would be quite a strange promotion as it has replaced the previous product offering. I agree with whoever said they should have clarified a few things before they hauled ass out for the weekend. I'm not impatient, I'm opposed to having my chain yanked around.

  • @lycide, can help order for us... ? :D hehehe

If you have time, can you please try uploading some files using Duplicati?

I ordered earlier from ovh.co.uk, but still hasn't got that.
    Hopefully...
