Well that's beside the point, get it working then try speedtests. What is interesting here is if the weird speed shaping applies over IPv6 too. My guess is that it likely doesn't.

Well, its a "backup server", no wonder that outbound is throttled.

But if you try restore shit and get 5Mbit upload, #rekt.

Ovh SoYouStart #SYS Coming next days:

    - same as today: first 16 IPv4 0e/mo - 16+ IPv4: 1e/mo (was 2e/mo)

    - minimum HDD: 4x 2TB (was 2x 2TB)

    - minimum SSD: 2x 480GB (was 2x 240GB)

So the offers posted above are invalid?

    Whats even the source ?

    That could be new configs.

The source actually was their API, I found new product codes on their API a few days ago.

Thats confusing, according to oles at least half of them are invalid.

These new "storage" offers make the KS1/2/3 look quite dull...

maybe. but the network isnt as reliable.

no worries, I got your point already. and ofc I tried to get it working, but it simply won't... and yes I have read their wiki, weird gateway stuff, autoconf is disabled and so on.

as I don't need ipv6 (yet), I am too lazy to bother much with their crappy setup anyway.

Someone stated old servers won't even change pricing, will need to cancel & re-order, so I highly doubt they'll be upgrading/touching existing. Probably just upgrading them as they get canceled and returned to stock.

Yeah thats what you had to do with Kimsufi, cancel and re-order :)

The cheap storage ITS A TRAP, apparently the uplinks are overloaded according to the Weathermap.
So yea, its only useful for backups but restoring is a pain in the arse, downlinks seem to be fine.

It seems to be possible to unlock the upload limit of 5Mbit when you use multiple connections.

SYS had crappy upload speeds in first place anyway, even on normal servers. At one time you could upload at 20MB/s and few minutes later it drops to only a few KB/s... so yeah, nothing new.

Interesting: is SYS worse than kimsufi? I can almost always max out my (100 mbit) kimsufi port.

This would be the first time I've heard that claim.

If you have another server with OVH couldn't you just transfer the backup (given it's not some huuuge backup but say lots of small daily ones) through the fast internal network then download from your other OVH server?

had different SyS for over 3years now and could always max the 250mbit, even got an uncapped one for some months until the network connection was unresponsive and they fixed it with the capped one.

sys network is the same as the normal ovh, the storage boxes maybe fishy or it's the ARM setup, who knows.

  • someone run btsync or any multithreaded rsync alternative to see if you can get 100mbit+ out?

  • Good Price. This is the configuration that I need for a long time I found on the Internet.

    7 s/m/h/d/w/m/y take your pick.

I have to say I also have had an arm box for more than a year and it could reach pretty good speeds (as in the full 250Mbit).

So I just did a speedtest-cli comparison between box A which is my 1+ year old arm SYS box that is also running some heavy (for its) cpu stuff every so often vs box B which is a new freshly installed arm SYS box.
This is not what would one call a scientific approach but well...

First result is box A, second is box B

As you can see, interestingly the upload from the new arm SYS is consistently slower. The download is similar or better which can be explained from the cpu in box A being used by other stuff so limiting the performance (maybe).

Anywhere from 2 minutes to a few days depending on if verification is needed and how quickly you can send it to them.
