Oh I see, it's a page saying if you want more servers etc., open a ticket. I'm only using Hetzner for personal projects right now, so am not too likely to need more than 10 servers. But but it makes me remember: I've worked at some places with 1000s of AWS instances.
Right now it's just a theoretical question, but if you don't mind my asking, is Hetzner currently able to accommodate cloud customers of that size? Also I'm sure it's already on your roadmap so I won't ask for it, but it will be great if/when there are higher resource servers than the current 32GB ones, plus other "cloud" features like VLANs.
Do they have images/templates, or is everything ISO manual installs?
@willie - Yes, this is possible in theory, but we don't want to be burned. We'd like to establish some trust in a situation like this. You can always contact our product advice team if you're interested in setting up a larger account. +49 (0)911 234226-927 (Sales) +49 (0)9831 505-148 (Cloud) https://www.hetzner.com/support-form Or if you're already a customer, simply write a support ticket.
@twain - Yes, we have some pre-installed images. And we also have snapshots which can be used as a template. You can start an account without any charge and look around our Cloud Console. If you have more questions, write us a support ticket there.

@Hetzner_OL sure, no problem, and I wouldn't ever want that many servers under my personal account (at least for any length of time) anyway. And it's fine that the actual customer (a midsize company) would work through your sales dept. The question was just whether you have enough hardware and if you feel like the infrastructure is solid enough by now to handle large deployments like that. It sounds like you do, which is great. Thanks!
Response from hetzner about cpu usage:
we do not guarantee any cpu performance as this is shared. You can get 100% CPU of course and nothing will happen on our side unless it is effecting other customers.Uh oh! That's the first time I heard anything other than mining is not allowed. I had the opposite impression, that there are no cpu limits per se, and that the sharing/throttling stuff will take care of protecting other customers. That's supposedly what happens at DO: if you use enough cpu that other people start being affected, your VM gets throttled so your program runs slower, but other than that nothing happens to you. Maybe that's what Hetzner means by stuff happening on their side. Anyway I hope it's not considered abuse.
As mentioned above I ran a cpu-intensive task on a 32gb instance for around 2 hours and didn't notice any throttling. So I've been planning to run other such tasks on these VM's, using 100% cpu for periods of days, though not weeks or months (if it needs weeks I'd use more parallel instances and if it needs months I'd use auction dedis).
I also just posted a recommendation of Hetzner Cloud to a blog thread about math research, then thought "what have I done" since I may have attracted a bunch more cpu hogs to Hetzner
.
@Hetzner_OL
@willie If you are worried about your CPU usage possibly causing our support team to throttle your instances, then please communicate with our support team directly via Cloud Console. Our technicians should be able to give you a more defined idea of what they think is acceptable. -- Ramona, Marketing
Thanks, and I hope Katie is ok! Please say hi to her for us.
Thanks for the well-wishes.
I was fine, just busy with some other work. You may occassionally see other members of the marketing team fill in for me from time to time in the future. --Katie, Marketing
@Hetzner_OL any options to transfer a server in another project, inside your cloud interface?
@Hetzner_OL Could a dedicated server from hetzner communicate over the private network with the cloud instances?
@punkstar69 Yes, you can transfer projects into any other project in which you are part of. For more info, contact our techs via Cloud Console.
@Makkesk8 No that is not possible out of the box, but you can use a VPN. Again, contact support if you need more information.
--Katie, Marketing
@Makkesk8 could you explain what you were asking about? I didn't know Hetzner had a private network in the sense of 10.* addresses being assigned to servers for communications within Hetzner, or user VLANs or anything like that. So I wonder if you know of something I haven't heard about. Thanks.
In Hetzner #Tekktalk 7, Hetzner Product Manager Markus Schade discusses the new cloud service. The physical server is on his table, and 4 racks full of them are shown at 17 seconds:
This seems to be a Taiwanese QCT QuantaGrid D52B-1U:

Hetzner Cloud is now available in the Helsinki datacenter!
@Limpan - I knew one of you guys was going to beat me to it!
I had to teach earlier today and didn't get a chance to post something here until just now! Thanks for helping me spread the word about the Hetzner Cloud servers being availabe at our Helsinki location. I appreciate it.
--Katie, Marketing
Nice! Congratulations on the new location.
Any plans for North America as well?
We don't publish information like that until after construction starts. We prefer to announce good news once things are already in motion, or with new features for our products, once they go live. It's nice to know that we're wanted in North America. --Katie, Marketing
We have a new feature for Hetzner Cloud which we're calling deletion protection. It's especially useful for projects where different team members could accidentally delete something they shouldn't.

Nice! This is a very needed feature, something that I would really need if I used Hetzner for a production project and also had other testbed VMs under the same account.
what about hardenedbsd?
If you just want it for private use, you can write a quick support request via Cloud Console, and our team will make it available for you. If you wanted added to the library, I can pass that information on to our development team and they'll consider adding it. --Katie, Marketing
Anybody can provide fresh speed tests (HDD, network)? I wonder if its worth to use this for US traffic.
Sorry I don't have record of my testing, but I was wondering the same thing. I tried quite a few different providers from LET that offer at least 2 cores without hard usage caps and 8 - 16 GB of RAM and SSD or NVMe storage for around $20/month or less. Basically, LunaNode and Hetzner were the only ones that could break 100k rand read IOPS, and of those two Hetzner allows more CPU usage. All the others didn't even come close for performance benchmarks. As for latency from North America, that's my main concern that prevents me from switching. There's definitely a noticeable mathematical difference in ping times, but I kind of doubt that it would be very noticeable in actual usage for website visitors.
Yes. You probably won't be able to notice the difference between eg. 40ms and 150ms ping.
I'm scared more about the transfer speed difference between different US locations and Hetzner.
Happy Hump Day! We added Ubuntu 18.4 to Hetzner Cloud today, so now you can get it automatically deployed on your instances within seconds. --Katie, Marketing
HardenedBSD in the images list would be great
Problem solved with the customer service
@Widder - I'll add HardenedBSD to the wish list for the ISO library. Thanks for the suggestion!
@RedgiantLKC - Maybe I missed a post... What was your issue with customer service...?
