Ordered NVME dedicated server, got it in falkenstein :( I think nurnberg is better location, do you think so? Is it a way to change вс,

You could open a ticket but they might charge you or ask you to use the 14 day cancellation and re-order. If you want a specific location you can ask for it when placing the order. With the cloud product, you select which location you want with a box on on the deployment page.

I've been happy with Falkenstein and have the impression from auction listings that Nuremburg is mostly older servers (opened earlier?) but don't know.

    Hm? What do you mean?

Anyway, I have a question regarding credit card payment.

Will I incur a foreign transaction fee if I paid with a US based credit card? ( I live in the US )

I'm currently paying through PayPal and I have to submit payment manually. ( which is inconvenient )

However, some customers who use our other control panels (Robot/konsoleH) prefer to pay in advance via PayPal because they may live in countries with unreliable banking systems, or because they don't have access to a credit card and don't want to pay bank transfer fees every month. We will allow Cloud Console customers to do the same. To set up this payment option, please write a support ticket via Cloud Console. --Katie, Marketing

Important edit There was a miscommunication. We cannot accept advance payments via PayPal. --Katie, Marketing

We will not charge you a special fee on a credit card payment. It may be worthwhile checking with your specific credit card company about this question. --Katie, Marketing

@Hetzner_OL I already have an account for Hetzner cloud, however - I was not requested to provide proof of identity.

Just wanted to let you know. I do not want to spin some servers up, and then the account get closed in the middle of the night.

    Please advise :)

    Thanks!

  • @Hetzner_OL , whats the CPU usage FUP? I am NOT thinking about mining!

Most US cards do have a fee for foreign transactions. I think mine is around 1%, not too bad given how small my overseas expenditures are (a few LET-range servers). Some expensive premium cards aimed at frequent international travellers get rid of the fee, and advertise this as a premium feature. Better check with your card company.

Edit: wrote transfers instead of travellers by mistake, fixed.

I'm still seeing really poor transfer speeds from Hetzner to Linode Fremont. In the end, I actually launched a Hetzner VM and compared it to transfer from my @Clouvider VM, and a DigitalOcean VM in Frankfurt. Yesterday I was seeing slow speeds from Clouvider/DO Frankfurt/Hetzner Nuremberg to Linode Fremont. Today Clouvider is speedy, but DO and Hetzner remain slow. Traceroute output is unchanged (@Clouvider - have you changed anything in the last day or so?).

I wanted to update on this, and give a shoutout to @Hetzner_OL support who have been very responsive regarding this issue since getting in to work this morning. I've had tickets open with Linode, Hetzner, and Digital Ocean (given it wasn't clear who was to blame). Hetzner say they have updated their routing. Linode were looking into it, but no confirmed change. DO haven't had much of a look yet, but it seems the problem is solved for them too, and the route is much better.

If anyone has a view on what the likely issue was, I'd be interested. The fact DO Frankfurt and Hetzner were fixed simultaneously seems odd - perhaps a HE issue?

I can now transfer Hetzner -> Linode Fremont faster than Linode Frankfurt -> Linode Fremont:

I haven't noticed any change with Hetzner to Virmach SJC. Transfer speed is still all over the place, from 200KB/s to >5MB/s, averaging 1-2MB. I imagine I can submit a ticket if it gets to be a real problem. Right now I'm not doing significant transfers on this route.

I'm not aware of any price increases. Do you perhaps mean the auction servers...? If yes, the prices here seem higher that usual lately, but that is simply because the supply of the cheaper server auction models is low and the supply is high. We'll place more of the lowest-priced models on the auction as soon as we have them in supply again. --Katie, Marketing

Is it possible that you changed your language or your location in your Internet browser during this time...? Our websites react to these settings. To my knowledge, for people visiting the website from non-EU countries, we always show the prices without VAT. You should be able to see your balance and the payment option that you are currently using at Hetzner Account. And you can make payments there: https://accounts.hetzner.com/account/payment
Very important note: To settle your invoice(s) via PayPal, you need to manually trigger the pay button in your Robot administration interface each time.

  • @Hetzner_OL sorry if this is off topic but do any of the Hetzner dedicated servers have 10gbit network ports the way these cloud servers do? That can be very useful for clustering within the Hetzner network, even if they can't get stuff to the internet at anywhere near that speed. I didn't notice it in any of the product pages, but maybe I missed some. Otherwise I hope it's on the roadmap. Thanks.
