I'm pretty sure you sent ICMP packets (ping) to CloudFlare's CDN in Perth. This is not really any use for your game server project (GRE tunnels needed instead for custom UDP or TCP app ports).
Don't get a server in Singapore, because of stability issues on the Perth-Singapore cable SWM3). Minimum would be 60ms. Also Telstra/TPG may not necessary use that particular route for all SG hosts (depends on peering arrangements). It was iiNet/Internode that used mainly used that cable. The only other closest region to Perth is Adelaide and there may be options there (43ms from ADSL connection).
Isn't sending packets still considered a latency test, no? I did one at Adelaide and got 75 ms on average for ADLS2+ connection.....
Hahaha, of course not; why would I deliberately handy-cap myself on my own server?! hahaha Sure if I was pro and 400 pings is like nothing to me and can still own even with that high of a kind of ping, but no...I'm unfortunately not a pro player....hahahaha
Are you in WA or you're from other states?
I've tested and definitely is around 43ms.
I'm definitely in WA, do you want me to confirm/verify it somehow with you? I posted a screenshot of cmd prompt to you via P.M....
Perhaps a meetup somewhere at my house maybe if you also live in WA too? That will definitely verify and confirm where I exactly reside so you have ZERO reasons I could be somewhere else....
No, it's okay. The issue is with TPG, which is routing most networks to Adelaide through Sydney from Perth (what you see is Perth --> Sydney --> Melbourne --> Adelaide). It's possibly passing through SA twice (unlikely NT).
Shoot me an email if you decide to go with us - I'll apply enough credits so you can try out a Linux server to see if it's something you're comfortable with.
Soooooooooooooooo.............................................................................................?
Try OnApp's cloud.net
They have a zone in Perth as I previously suggested and is the cheapest I found.
@OnApp_Terry
https://intergrid.com.au/virtual.php is another option.
In the US someone from New York can get around 80ms to a server in Los Angeles, I really do feel bad in that regard. Minecraft servers are really easy to run in linux, you just install the latest Java, get the minecraft server .jar file, open up tmux and do java -jar minecraft_server.jar and there you go, If you ever host one I'll join it lol, and I don't know about the rest of the games though, those may only work in Windows, and I hope you can find a good host
oh my god they really should fix that routing, I'd be inclined to tell their NOC about that
Hah, I'll worry about that when I get to hosting a MineCraft server after knowing if I have enough resources available for it; and if it doesn't turn out to work - I can always get back to you and ask you for help(if there are no publicly displayed instructions on how to start a dedicated minecraft server on either windows or linux or which ever os I decide on! :P)! hahaha
For now, once I finally pick either a VPS, dedicated server or even coloation service (I just discovered this new method), I will start off with me hosting some dedicated KF1 servers. Once I have that figured out and operating correctly as I would like it to be, then I can start thinking about hosting other games.....heh...
What's a NOC?
By the way, does anyone know of any decent but not so expensive colocation providers(preferably less than $100 if at all possible?)? Or am I in the wrong forum/site to be talking about this kind of stuff because it's probably not really low end...especially the price tags that I've seen on some providers........heh
This might spread some light on the whole who has colo, here's a few that have had deals in the past.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Colocation
No idea if any of them are actually good...
@trjhx NOC stands for Network Operations Center, it basically means the group of people managing the backend parts of a network such as IP addresses, routing, etc. For example TPGs is [email protected]
As far as VPS providers go there's also http://vpsblocks.com.au/
and no dedicated servers and collocation have came up on here before so I'm sure they're some people willing to put some insight on that
Alright cool thanks!
So I should contact them demand they fix up this bad routing?
As for the VPS provider you linked: https://s27.postimg.org/k3fbk15c3/tracert.png
Oh really? Huh.....
I've ordered a LES NAT from @Oliver a couple days ago. Will give you any relevant advice when I get it.
Great little boxes! Running a TeamSpeak with a Java bot with around 5-10 people mostly AU residents and a few from NZ and it doesn't even break a sweat.
I think I've been put on a "fuck you" list because I named it "alice springs"
Sydney, but how is your ping to 65.127.194.149?
@WSS haha sorry; just saw that now.. Apologies just been very busy so processing LET orders was not a high priority... You're up and running now. :-)
No issues, mate. I was just funning. Besides, it was the weekend! Cheers!
lol
Min = 197ms, Max = 198ms Avg = 197ms
Oh yeah, would be nice if you replied back to my message......but I suppose I'm in no hurry get all this setup anyways so I can patiently wait for your reply....
Which message sorry? I think I have missed something if you are waiting on something. Can you bump/resend/remind me of it because I am not sure where that message is.
Cheers
@Oliver this is a pretty nice little LES. Cheers!
@trjhx
Just seen this - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/289078 - they are available in Perth.

Those paragraphs I sent to you via PM.....you never came back to answer them.......or comment on it... Maybe the answer was so simple that your presumed I already know the answer to it, but they're not rhetorical questions(they are serious questions as I've never been in this field of work before! Or at least have as much experience as you)! :P
You either answer via PM'ing back or you just read the rest of the message from your inbox and answer here.....nothing to hide anyways...heh :P Everyone here knows I'm a newb at this! :P
Bleh, this quoting system - I'm not used to it..... Yep there we go - seperated my reply from your quote..........................................
How is it? What are you using it for anyways?
Oh cool thanks - I'll go check it out! ^_^
@trjhx You might want to invest more time in writing messages to people. That message is incredibly hard to read and comprehend. I don't think you even had a actual question in there? It just looks like you're thinking out loud.
@trjhx yes, what @trewq said - sorry I didn't really interpret them as serious questions. Not sure what to say really; yes you can be DDOS'd on any connection... No I don't have a program to 'detect it'. You usually discover it when you get nullrouted.
Unless you are willing to invest lots of time into learning yourself I would honestly say that unmanaged services are not suitable for you anyway since the support you probably require simply isn't there. Not trying to discourage you from learning just saying how it is; since I'd rather be upfront about that now rather than later have you or a customer complain because I can't explain how to run Linux on the CLI when they've only ever used Windows.
Ah, sorry about that..... well the intention wasn't me thinking out loud..... :P
Ah so in this case, I should really just stick with windows than, rather than trying linux again with flipping tables sessions whilst I work with their CLI .....heh..
It's nowhere near as slow as I'd expect. I actually got it to use as a VPN should the need arise to join the Darren Hanlon fanclub, or order a replacement set of Late Show DVDs.
