I also am affected. I did however get a notification and had about a month to move on. Unfortunately I chose a bad one, ChicagoVPS and now they're holding my data hostage (unresponsive support), keeping the machine null routed because somehow (1st time in 10+ years) my dovecot server (I suspect) got compromised, turning it into a spamming machine...

But dovecot doesn't do SMTP sending, does it? That's your MTA (postfix, etc.)'s job.

  • Their VPS's are couple times more expensive than some dedicated's

  • nameman said: The proper way to handle an event like this would be to send out that email a month in advance, then a week in advance, then three days, two, one, and a few hours before. The proper way to handle this would also include keeping backups for at least a week in case they didn't reach anyone with the emails. The decision to destroy all data with no concern for their customers is big a "fuck you" to the entire community of VPS customers. You can be sure I will never patronize QuadraNet again and will make sure word gets out of this disgusting behavior.

In fact, all the blame should go to yourself. It doesn't matter if quadranet handled like shit the whole situation. You lost your data because you didn't have any backup plan.
And, yes, they did sent email to every client, but for many of them the mail did go to spam folder. Do you check your spam folder?

  • @nameman said:
They lied, telling me that I received an email from them providing notice of this event. I received no such email. I do not delete any emails.

Even I thought I didn't get any mail, until I found it in Spam. None of previous crissic mails were reported as spam, except this. I sometimes wonder if this was intentional. And all spam mails are deleted after 30 days by Gmail.

If this repeats couple of more times, may be we can start calling the act of breaking promises again and again as pulling a Quadrant

  • You have to wonder about a company that in 3 months time went from "your VPS will last until your service is over" to "Everything is shutdown in 30 days". If they couldn't afford to keep the VPSes that were already paid for running, will they stay in business?

If I was a QuadraNet customer, I would be keeping backups handy.

Neither did. Fuck 'em and move on with your life.

    I just got refunded.

I honestly doubt it's about affordability. They probably figured they could get a better business deal by cancelling these and selling at a higher price.
Don't really need to worry about repercussions either, if you just ignore every complaint :D

QuadraNet bought Crissic for the IPs, not the customers.

true, but in your first paragraph you confirm you got the initial notice, then in the second you say you got no notice then in the third you said you have had no emails, if the emails are not getting to you then a million notices would have made no difference.

When everyone got the first notice months ago, that is when you should have moved on, what was the point in staying, I really really do not understand.

FYI you can check all the emails that went to you in the client area.

@QuadraNet_Adam lots of your ex customers are saying they never got the email(s) what service do you use for delivering emails to customers?

    Can anyone prove that?

For example you would have the emails of the initial ticket confirmation and then you would be able to register a new account with the old email address.

Premium QuadraNet mailing system with premium blacklisted IP ranges!

Well people got some emails we know that, it would take 10 seconds to check.

I do not condone the way Quadranet handled this, I do not condone making people wait for a long time for refunds and for end users I don't envy anyone the headache of dealing with the mess if you did not get any of the emails, I am just doubting that is the case in reality.

The amount of "YOU SUSPENDED MY VPS I NEVER GOT AN EMAIL TO PAY" tickets I get of which 100% of the time I can show or evidence that the email was sent and in most cases opened is a joke, I don't know why people jump to this as a first line of defense against their own loss, maybe it is easier to deflect blame than accept responsibility.

Quadranet is not some 2 cent host, they should really have no problem dealing with and proving this, at the same time they should have no problem processing refunds within 48 hours.

All they are doing by handling things this way is ensuring that the discerning customers, the ones they actually want who could be paying them mid 5 figures p/year wont touch them for anything, not ever, and you can put me on that list.

    Well, I can. I can't login anymore.

For example you would have the emails of the initial ticket confirmation and then you would be able to register a new account with the old email address.

I never once received an email from them notifying me of the closure, I found out here, I had to ask them if I was going to be affected (due to no email) and asked for a refund.

I had to push them for the refund which I actually got (YAY) now my account has been removed.

The first notice said we had until our service time ran out, which for me was March and April of 2017. Since I got the notice in August, I still had six or seven months, so I didn't worry about it. I didn't not receive the November email that said service was going to be shut off in December.

The least they could have done is shut down the VPSes December 4th, but with the option to individually turn them on for customers that didn't get the email. Just deleting everything was not OK.

  • It's not really my concern as when they bought crissic I cancelled my server immediately and moved on. What's totally beyond me though is why is this sector, being lowend or hosting in general we put up with this shit. We argue about customers being wrong, could've seen that coming and all that shit while in reality any decent service provider should notify, apologise and refund without any hesitation whatsoever. If you don't, you're just being a massive cunt. Not only that but from a legal standpoint you're nothing more than a common thief. End of rant. Sorry sometimes I get fed up with what business ethics people seem to find acceptable around here.

  • Quadranet really didnt scam anyone as far as I can see.

  • I was one of their customer. They didn't reply any ticket since early October/November. Even upgrade to dedicated request got no reply.

  • Could it be their act of mass-sending shutdown notices to customers was regarded as spam by GMail and others (Outlook in my case)?

  • As I posted earlier in this thread:

    I have received a refund.

    I also have the following pieces of information to share;

Refund requests are manually handled and calculated on a case-by-case basis. At the moment they are sifting through thousands of requests, again - manually.
An assumption, based on my own experience, is that everyone will get their money refunded, even if it takes some time.

I've also got the perfect replacement service (VPS + IP-range) from @vapornode

  • Just FYI, my crissic VPS is accessible over IPv6 currently, to anyone that needs to grab some "securely wiped" data still...

I daily check my spam folder. 200% sure I didn't receive anything. And they simpLy don't care about anyone. This was a pure IP grab. Just sad thAt they didnt even give me the chance to backup my data... 0/10 would never host anything with them
