So cold!
I know, but it's such a delightful rumor, I can never resist spreading it.
DO and Vultr already have $5 offers, and for the same specs as Linode. Seems like this is a case where Linode needs to come down rather than the limit going up. I realize you're just using Linode as an example.
Heck, AWS EC2 could fit in a LEB offer today...a micro is is only $6.57/mo, though $7 doesn't leave much room for bandwidth. But if AWS can fit into $7, anyone should be able to.
I think the market has said they'd rather read a forum than a WP blog. I take myself as an example...I read LET every day, LEB very rarely.
Part of the problem: no unified login. I mean, this is 2016. How hard is it to sync a Vanilla password file and a Wordpress password file?
But if we did it that way...I could support that, particularly if someone cooked up a cool BBCODE that allowed us to post links to LEB offers in a neat little formatted box ("OP asked for cheap hosting in Japan. TentacleHost provides specialty services there. Check out [LEB offer=tentacle date=2016-03-05]").
I know, I know...thanks button was offline for two years...custom BBCODE...I'm dreaming.
@Nekki,
Jokes aside, I actually think you've had a great idea.
Forbid offers on LET for a month, require them to submit their offers in LEB.
I'm sure it'd drive traffic to LEB.
Has the market said that? I dunno. I just always kind of felt that the balance shifted from LEB to LET as soon as offers were allowed on LET.
I never read LEB anymore, but that's simply because the offers don't interest me anymore; if all the offers were on LEB, do you think you wouldn't visit more frequently?
Previously, I visit LEB for the tutorials and announcements, less recently as I sometimes forget to check the tutorials tab while the front page is mainly offer posts.
For browsing offers, I prefer the forum's list view the because it shows more offers per page than the LEB post view (30/page compared to 10/page), which makes it easier to skim through and open the ones of interest for more details. It's possible to get the same layout through a feed reader, but there's LET, and discussion is integrated more tightly running on the same board. As a different example, @MrGeneral's thread prompted me to read the LEB article, then back to LET to view the discussion brewing. Maybe as suggested, auto-announcing articles/tutorials with a link to LEB in forum threads (and on LEB, a comments button links to the forum thread) could help with integrating the two platforms and directing traffic.
LET has more listings and where I tend to hear about new providers and novelties people are running, whereas I might check LEB if looking for an offer by a provider that I know regularly advertises there (and it's nice on occasion to see a new provider offering servers in less-advertised locations.) The advantage of the LEB listings is being able to sort by location and virtualisation type, but there's no option to sort by multiple tags or filters like in many online stores, e.g. KVM in the Netherlands at a given price range.
In short, I'd probably visit LEB more if it offered a more convenient interface for browsing offers, and different article features/type of posts on the front page.
Edit to add: just realised this got a bit offtopic from the original post. On topic, currently I don't have a strong opinion about the price limit changes. $7 seemed like an uncommon price point and acted as a conversation starter for new members, and I'm not sure raising it to $10 makes any difference, in terms of challenging providers to come up with specialised/insane-but-somehow-useful plans that fit the price point. $10 is as nice and round number as any, I guess.
Linode starts at $10 so you can't compare that to the $5 DO as Linode offer better resource overall, you would need to spend double at DO to match what the Linode $10 offers.
I like your posts. I like the way you think.
I suggested a different thing for LEB. Let's say that it may happen, under a prototype and then you guys decide wether you like it or not. Can't disclose much for now as @SysAdmin didn't have time to speak about this yet.
There's a lot that can be done.
I did like the suggestion for auto-announcing new posts in LEB. I have a lot of ideas in my mind. Not sure it'll work or not, but I'm looking forward to implement those.
You can disclose it, you're just choosing not to in order to build anticipation.
I didn't disclose it because until now, nothing has been decided, nor I got Alex to answer me.:P
So basically you sent @sysadmin and idea, and that's it.
What about separate VPS from Dedicated.
What? Not sure what you mean.
Yeah, i suggest to have two separate Categories, one for VPS offers and the other for Dedicated Servers.
I think that has been the idea for a long time and if things go right, this may just happen (plus tabs for other categories as well).
+1 for @mpkossen for President of LET forum.
Just a fyi: mpkossen resigned from being administrator - I don't think he wants to take the position again. (and what about @jarland?)
Wrong sub sorry
Please tell be that this is the 'before' state...
It is. Just woke up man > @Amitz said:
I think Jarland is super moderator.
No that is just what he is aspiring to become.
Maybe one day.
He used to be, but he got promoted when I resigned (under my recommendation actually). I can't say we haven't had our differences (I've been yelling at him a lot in Skype chats) but I think he's handling things quite well here.
Not under my reign, Minion!
Thats good news that the prices for VPS was raised up..It should be easier for some Companies to provide a really good Deal for the LEB Visitors.
We also created a new amazing Deal as we had read this, i hope our Ticket should be read fast
And because you posted this, you'll never be listed. GOOD DAY!
What is your Problem ?
I haven't got one. Yours is that you'll never be listed on LEB.
Oh..Mr.Troll..We are sorry, we are listed several Times in the past...ups...:-) Have a nice Day!
I wouldn't know, haven't been on LEB in yonks.
