@ftpit said: Problem with one man is also that if he is sleeping and your server is down and you will not get your tickets answered on time and it can take time to resolve

I already have this with ChicagoVPS/Colocrossing; this isn't a new issue for me.

When one understands that these are budget datacenters, and accepts the risks and ramifications of that, then it actually ends up working out better.

Additionally, Calihop has 24/7 response to emergency situations. And that's all I need; anything else can be handled during 'regular' hours.

It was a joke. :-) Even a one man show can respond to a lot of things 24/7. It's just a matter of being well organised.

  • @Damian Got a slap by maxmind just now.I will need to create a ticket.

Yes,possible but tickets have not been answered for last 4 hours.I guess he is sleeping now :)

Fair enough. Anyway I look forward to feedback anyone here gives on any of those deals. Glad Damian is signing up with CaliHop first as their offer looks tempting to me as well.

Not that I need another dedicated server... But whatever. ;-)

  • @Damian said: Are these sales tickets?

    Yes,just now they replied

That would be good of them, as their sales hours are listed as Mon-Fri 9AM-7PM PST, and it's currently 7:40 AM PST.

The owner checks tickets whenever he gets time :)

  • The 100mbit is throwing me off at calihop, but the price is just awesome.

Why does it matter 100Mbps is fine for a LowEndNode

  • @shovenose said: Why does it matter 100Mbps is fine for a LowEndNode

Not when you strive to offer gigabit ports. I was the owner of a company previously that offered only 100mbit ports for about 4 years, I figured it was time for a change with my new company.

yes,I know that.I have been on 1gbps for a long time.I will feel little slow myself

It's not like anybody's internet is so fast they will notice. :)

  • @shovenose said: It's not like anybody's internet is so fast they will notice. :)

Yes, for a low end vps,100 mbps is more than acceptable.

People use vpses for a wide range of things, sometimes even requiring higher than a 100mbit port for those times they need to burst...... home connection speeds not being 100mbit doesn't really matter as there could be 100 homes connected to one vps.

@Damian yes to test the network.
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 98.9KB/s
    is a worry sign.
But when i downloaded from Linode Atlanta location,it was fine

  • @ftpit said: is a worry sign.

I don't think so. It was able to do at least 2 megabytes/sec across the ocean.

  • @Damian maybe line congested to coloat

  • @ftpit

Just checking in. Our supplier is shipping today, so your LSI card should be in by tomorrow if all goes well. I'll keep you posted!

  • @Damian support wise they look pretty nice to me now though it is a one man show. They should improve their network.Hardware-wise they are quite nice

  • Good Luck @Damian, How much transit do they have? I'm guessing a couple to a few Gigabits at most.
