[Q4 2015] Top Provider Poll

IshaqIshaq Member
edited February 2016 in Providers

We're doing it different this time. You can vote for your favourite and disliked providers!

Here's how it works:

You get 3 votes, they can all be positive, all negative, or a mix. But you cannot vote more than once per provider.

Here is the example format:

Positive: Host1, Host2

Negative: Host3 (reason)

Providers with negative votes will lose a positive vote, if they have no positive votes, they will get a minus rank.

Here's a summary of the rules & requirements:

  • 3 votes per person. You cannot use more than one vote (positive or negative) per provider.

  • If you vote negative, you must provide a reason.

  • Your account must have been registered for 3 months (October 2015, or older), and you should have at least 15 posts.

  • Providers cannot vote for themselves, and cannot vote negative for other providers.

  • Poll closes at 11:59 PM UTC / GMT on the 5th of February, 2016. The results will be later that month.

If you do not meet the above requirements, your votes won't count.

If you do not specify positive/negative, we will assume the votes are positive.

You do not have to use all votes, should you chose not to.

No offtopic chat in this thread, if you want to discuss anything do it in the dedicated discussion thread.

Suspicious activity (e.g multiple accounts from the same IP) will render any votes invalid.

Good luck to all providers!

    Positive:

    1) BuyVM

    2) GoMach5

    Negative:

    3) OVH (massive downtime)

BuyVM is awesome as usual and GoMach has good shared hosting... but OVH? I can't even get started on how bad it has been within the past 6 months. (got held on the phone and ended up speaking French to their support because they couldn't understand what "slow I/O" was; the rep. kept repeating "sloioe," but she understood what "mon VPS, particulièrement la vitesse..." meant ._.)

All these providers I have services with over a year. They have been solid in terms of performance and uptime.

Damn... can't split my votes across n providers.

    Positive:

    • RamNode: great performance with the pure SSDs and high-quality CPU, and overall very reliable; availability of DDoS filtered IP addresses is another plus, although CNServers in Seattle didn't ever work well for me
    • Linode: recently has had lots of trouble with DDoS attacks and security breaches, but I can't find any providers with similar pricing in Germany/Tokyo/Singapore that have the same quality performance and network (I still have old VM with Vultr in Germany, but when I needed a second one I went with Linode because the network on Vultr wasn't that great). The multiple security breaches in the last few years are still very troubling.
    • Backupsy: 500 GB VPS for cheap

    Would also vote for:

    • EDIS: Iceland location
    • RansomIT: Australia location
    • Hosthink: Turkey location
    • OVH: cheap dedicated servers with DDoS protection, IP addresses are also cheap

Negative: the new negative vote system :)

    Positive:

DO - Works very well for my production apps, network in Singapore location is superb in Southeast Asia. Support is decent, though response time isn't the best for a company as large as them.

HostUS - Cheap servers deals - not the largest fan of their own control panel as its a little slow, but the support response times and product are decent for the price ($1/mth, 768MB promo)

AlphaRacks - Cheap servers, might not be well liked by people here (from some threads) but it has proven itself to be pretty reliable, though network is the worst part about it, but hey, getting a server with 1GB RAM + 2GB Swap, 50GB HDD and 2TB bandwidth (New Year 2015 promo) is decent, for $1.50/mth (paid annually). Support is surprisingly fast, sometimes in < 10 minutes.

    Honourable Mentions:

Inception Hosting - Love their LES boxes! Nothing else to say - I host my Git and status server there, uptime isn't 100%, sometimes my boxes just go into rescue mode without notice, but hey, I get what I paid for, and this is fine - I can just restart in SolusVM :)

PieLayer - Cheap servers, seems to be a little stricter on disk I/O usage (got suspended when migrating my previous node over, had to respond to ticket), otherwise network is decent, where the port speed is the limitation, as I am able to get nearly full 100mbps in speedtest. Support is not very fast though.
