Despite that though, SANs are still not entirely reliable, VPS.net would be a good example. :P
There are various types of SAN. Some have redundant controllers, all serious ones should have dual power, should be able to function with quite a few failed drives (at the cost of performance), have integrated UPS to allow for an orderly shutdown, etc.
