    Unstable as always; it's why I escaped them back in 2011. They were as bad as now back then.

    I'd like to point out the fact that checking InceptionHosting's downtime the last few years would be an interesting read. Atleast, comparing to any reputable host.

    /end of adviceful rant

  • My Uk based VPS is down as well
    It's starting to be annoying

  • lzplzp Member

    @wrox, why didn't you tell me this sooner? I wouldn't have wasted my time on them in the first place :p

  • P.S.
    At least this time the client area was still up, so I could file a ticket (for what it's worth due the circumstances ... )

  • UK Node 10 issus are known, I am working on resolving this now.

  • # uptime
     17:59:41 up 119 days,  6:30,  1 user,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

    NL is working fine

  • inception was always great for me. not a single second of down time in NL. everything stable and Anthony always helpful

    @Izp I actually did some months ago on an earlier InceptionHosting downtime thread, but Anthony told me off by making up excuses for it being a special occourance only.

    @komo It's their UK location only being down at this time, downtime usually doesn't apply to both locations at the same time.

    I know all about that. In the past, I praised all of his service except for the monthly network issues, and he shit his pants trying to blame it on the client.

  • UK still down ... it might be a hw failure, alien invasion, tsunami, whatever.Net result is that my mail server is down and I'm starting to be pissed off

    4 hours in a working day is not a nice downtime ...

    @everybody
    Is this kind of downtime to be expected from providers or is it peculiar of IH ?
    It's been the second time in a few weeks, but I'm their client only since the first days of Jan / 2013 so it's a little too early for me to jump to conclusions

    @marcoalbarelli
    Its a hardware issue and your vps is in progress of being migrated to another node.

  • @MikHo
    I take it you speak for IH, right?
    Ok, shit happens, let's hope it doesn't happen again (soon)
    Any ETA?

    @marcoalbarelli Definitely not to be expected of any reputable host around here. I'd say InceptionHosting is the most known with downtime and later blaming it on stuff..

    There is a certain absurdness in the downtime of InceptionHosting, and it has been the same way since 2011 (from what I know of, by experience having customers use IH, and myself under 1½ years). After blaming a datacenter and later moving to a better one, it got worse. They don't know what they're talking about.

  • mikhomikho Member, Host Rep

    @marcoalbarelli

    I don't speak for IH, its all in the announcement

    http://clients.inceptionhosting.com/announcements.php

    I wish Anthony all the best.

  • @MikHo , sry for the misunderstanding, I missed that announcement
    What scares me is when he says "all user data seems to be in tact"
    @Anthony you do have backups of our machines, right?

    @wrox if it's a raid card failure we're still in the "shit happens" realm, but I'm starting to be less happy than I was almost 6 hours ago. Let's hope for the best

  • Edit, I meant @AnthonySmith of course
    No edit button for these comments ...

    I'm sorry to say but you should always have backups of your own stuff.

  • @MikHo I do ;)
    First thing I set-up my backuppc to backup whatever machine I buy.
    The vps are no different
    It's just that I'd prefer not to have to sum the time needed for data restore to the downtime caused by this failure
    I have a 1MB upload link from where I keep my backups which is not so slow, but not so fast either

    An email was sent to everyone with a UK VPS some time ago, the server has suffered a raid failure, this information is available on the client area too. after some work the data has been recovered and is being moved to a new server, with the volume of data in hand this will take some time.

    The client portal is available.

    Sorry you have had a hard time @wrox and @lzp I have no way of identifying who you are though to know what the specifics are, I am fairly sure I have never soiled myself any time in my adult life though.

    The first UK node has had issues that is for sure, early life disk failures on top of abusive clients and these are not things that can be predicted and can happen to anyone.

    This specific server has had more than its share of issues which is why it is being dropped, the raid card failure is the final straw and in all likelihoods the real root cause of the previous issues.

    While I completely understand why people would be angry about this I assure you everything that can be done is being done.

    @wrox I don't know who you are or why you seem so hostile so I don't really know how to respond to that except to say I try to make customers aware of what is going on and the causes behind things and your experience is not the norm if in fact it is not being blown out of all proportions.

    @marcoalbarelli I know this is early days for you and I am sorry this has affected you to the degree it has, Individual VPS's are not backed up that is why you are offered free off site back up space.

  • @AnthonySmith
    I didn't notice that announcement until today
    I'm opening a ticket for requesting that space as per announcement if it's still available
    Would the backup be integrated with solus panel in that case?
    How's migration/recovery going?
    Any ETA?

  • AnthonySmithAnthonySmith Member, Patron Provider

    @marcoalbarelli

    The 15GB backup space is available to anyone that wants it and if you need more than is usually not an issue, it is not available through solusvm due to the instability of the solusvm backup method when dealing with Xen, in the early days it actually created so much load it brought 2 nodes down.

    The recovery is slow due to the fact the file systems were not cleanly unmounted everything is being done with maximum saftey in mind, the rest will be done in a slightly different way which should speed things up as soon as a few are done I will get a better ETA but for now I would expect between 3 - 7 hours.

  • @AnthonySmith
    I opened a ticket for the backup space. I don't know if I may need more than 15GB. The VPS disk space I have is 25GB if I recall correctly. What I would like is the ability to have a ready-to-restore snapshot since I keep regular backups on my backup server already. Do you think 15GB would suffice?

    Anyhow another 3+ hours of downtime is not great news, but I was afraid it woud have been worse. Cheer yourself up: the worst case that happened to me up to now has been a complete burn of the main switches/firewalls of an Italian hosting where I had a VPS: 1 and a half day of downtime

    I'm just sad for the many "buy cheap Viagra" offers I'm losing right now because of my offline mail server :D
    Good work and bring them back online asap

  • Anthony is helpful, always finds a way to help.. servers can have problems, they aren't immortal. Stop complaining.

    Servers are coming back now, I am manually starting them to keep loads under control, the transfer has not completed yet it is around 50% once the initial batch have been started I will start the rest as they finish copying over.

  • AnthonySmithAnthonySmith Member, Patron Provider

    @qtriangle that one has been up around 20 - 30 minutes now.
