ColoCrossing Network Benchmarks NEEDED

MikePTMikePT Moderator, Patron Provider, Veteran

Hello folks,

We're launching our KVM VPS although we've had a terrible experience with CC, ignoring our tickets due to their network which seems to be extremelly slow.

Here's the last benchmark (freevps.us/bench.sh):

[root@kvmusa1 ~]# sh bench.sh
CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00GHz
Number of cores : 24
CPU frequency : 2000.174 MHz
Total amount of ram : 64393 MB
Total amount of swap : 7999 MB
System uptime : 8 days, 11 min,
Download speed from CacheFly: 77.0MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 2.46MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 31.7MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 1.22MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 1.08MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 1.37MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 158KB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 197KB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 450KB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 435KB/s

What I need from you:

I need you to run a network benchmark from your CC servers so I can compare it, please, so I can prove them that something is going on, at least in this switch.
According to their last reply, "the network is fine". It's not fine to me. It's terrible, not acceptable. Even my home connection gets much better results.

Note: I've also emailed Jon and my email was completely ignored.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Just like IPv6, it seems :P

What's the nickname of the owner? He has an account here, I just can't recall his nickname.

    Thank you!

    @jbiloh,

I believe I sent you an email a week ago or even more, and received no reply.

As you can see in this post, something is going on with the switch I'm connected to. The network performance isn't good at all, other than to CacheFly / Dallas.

Could you please do something in regards to this? I've worked in a previous company that had thousands of servers with you, I sent numerous tickets to you and your NOC team was always willing to help (using the name "Miguel", working for other company, though. However, in this situation, the company who resells the server to me had their tickets ignored, since you couldn't do anything at all to improve the routes. I wasn't expecting from CC since the company I worked for, had a pretty good customer support / network improvements.

    // others

Please post any network benchmarks @ CC you may have, it'd be really helpful.

You need to work through your reseller, or get an account direct w/CC. For all you know, the reseller could be feeding you bullshit. You chose to purchase through a reseller, the support ramifications are yours to deal with.

The reseller is a friend of mine, he even sends me the screenshots. I'm getting an account directly with CC, but I assure you that, in this case, CC isn't willing to improve their network. If that doesn't change in the coming week, I'll simply move to another provider.

    What I need from you:

    1) stop blaming the provider for your incompetence
    2) start using a reliable network bandwidth measurements
    3) stop starting stupid threads that should be discussed over CC helpdesk.
    4) write the pertinent information inside the ticket, i would reccomend iperf, egress/ingress graphs and so forth.

If CC is ignoring you and not fixing the slow network speeds. I honestly don't get it. we have 2x 1Gbps uplinks and I'm always able to get 100% of the speed 24/7 So my best advice to you is to move on CC has a oversold network. why would you subject your clients to this when there is plenty of other alternatives out there.

Even Psychz who we left had a better network then that and again was able to get 100% of our pipes 24/7

I personally would never use CC due to the hacking / spam related activities from their network and the lack of fixing it. Also CC has been known to use top of the rack switches as aggregation switches.

Can you elaborate or demonstrate on any incompetence on the part of @MrGeneral?

jaakka said: 3) stop starting stupid threads that should be discussed over CC helpdesk.

Did you read the original post from @MrGeneral? He and his provider have already opened tickets with ColoCrossing and emailed Jon Biloh without any luck.

  • jaakkajaakka Member

Well, running a freevps.us benchmark does not constitute as a reliable bandwidth measuring method.

This is what i call incompetence

If he tried the same shit in the tickets, no wonder he got ignored. I would suggest a phone call. Harder to say no over the phone.

Even all, it does not justify gross misconduct on Colocrossing behalf. Not answering tickets i mean.

Erm GTFO? the freevps.us benchmark runs wget. If your telling me wget is incompetence go say the same to thousands of linux devs. I ain't seen anything useful from you yet. However you can say how a benchmark is incompetence. Your attitude is pretty shit. CC may be acting up then who is going to look like a dick?

For god sake not again! Miguel what's with this LET campaign lately? You're pulling out some new brand? Need more recognition to get some more hosts willing to give you $2 VPS with DELAYED payment or what? Talk to me brother, what's going on now?

Im pretty sure its down to his box. Either the network stack isnt tuned or its not negotiating speed/duplex properly. Well never know.

Problem with wget is that it measures only downstream TCP throughput. Nothing else.

According to the other network benchmarks posted here, you can clearly see that mine, in particular, has awful speeds. I know it's not a reliable test, but you can get a general idea about the speeds to the other countries.

Indeed, wget is pretty good to have a brief idea about the network status, I don't see why it's not enough to prove that the switch I'm connected to, isn't working properly.

First of all, I am not your brother. And its not a matter of money. I'm giving out free trials to the LET community, so if it were money, I wouldn't be running trials.

    Hello Linux The Fish!

This is in Buffalo, New York, I've been trying to compare to other servers hosted here.

Those tests you shown are pretty good compared to the network throughput I'm getting in Buffalo! :-(

Noted, but I've installed this box several times for debugging purposes.. I've also installed several others (hundreds) at CC that would get better speeds.
