Are there any interesting or noteworthy case studies of once prominent software companies being pushed into non-existence (or losing massive market share) as a result of AI?
Should be an interesting case study to watch cPanel increase pricing every year, likely just to (now) keep up with the licensing lost.
WHMCS is basically just geared towards resellers nowadays with no real useful features or improvements, it's just pushing you towards their marketplace apps so you can sell MossadVPN and SSL certs from their partner companies.
And there it is, email just landed in inbox.
Price of everything is going up, I can’t believe how you could even act surprised any more.
close to a 14% increase loool.
It's hidden away toward the back of the document but all the CloudLinux products sold by cPanel including KernelCare, Imunify360, ImunifyAV+, etc are all going up as well.
I for one am glad.
All of you providers, 1 even medicore programmer can revamp you entire business, AI overrated in some aspects yes, when used right, by a competent person they can do what would of taken a team of 5 and a lot more focus.
Hire someone, lot of web-developers are desperate have them in-house. Many work on contract hour basis no need for a full-time worker.
I think it’s funny I made this comment and today they sent a price increase notice. 😅
I had built a billing/automation alternative for WHMCS already. It’s been sitting alongside WHMCS for two or three months just adding small features slowly that I’ve missed. Only downside it a hassle to move data over. Need to try to build an import tool.
This is the one "big wall" that WHMCS had for sure, when I looked into this in the past I was almost leaning towards keeping everything WHMCS in WHMCS and everything new in the new panel, but then realised that doesn't really work well for a billing platform unlike operating multiple VM control panels when moving from one to another.. but I guess thanks to the tools available today a importer can be built 1:1 100%
For something like virtfusion it's not that bad. You can have the new billing platform just retain the billing ID numbers then import the service numbers over. I think eventually someone will just built a drop in replacement for WHMCS. I tried at one point, and things generally worked, but it's going to be better to just have a total replacement.
Again any competent tech person could do a DB converstion in hours, not days.
Does Stack Exchange, Inc count? Or does the software company specifically have to sell software?

This is why I think Webpros got into competing with their customers directly. They can see where things are going and might be trying to pivot to an infrastructure company.
It'd go hand-in-hand with the WHMCS marketplace push.

Did the email drop with the new pricing?
It’s a pdf, the email was pure marketing.

For WHMCS? Yeah. They hid it in a PDF that was 2 pages. Page 1, the cover. Fancy graphic. Page 2, the prices.
I guess it's harder to index / easier for people to not care and look / less transparent that way.
Pricing updates:
Noice, I guess it was the same way for cPanel pricing then?
I've already got an email from a provider that will move all the cPanel accounts to DirectAdmin. It's a small provider, but that underlines the fact that some providers cannot afford to continue to pay cPanel prices to remain profitable. Or maybe just being sick of annually rises.
Just curious, is it SimpleSonic?
Yes
