  • I believe you once my disk IO is higher then 10 mbps constantly so much for a "RAID-10 SSD Accelerated Disk Space" I'll probably have to be exercising my 45 day money back guarantee if this isn't fixed soon.

    dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; unlink test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 179.3 s, 6.0 MB/s

  • @PcJamesy ,

Ouch, you should come to us:

    [[email protected] ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; unlink test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 8.53678 s, 126 MB/s

That's on a full node as well :).

Not a racist statement, provided of course that f*** isn't a racial group :)

Don't bash kids for owning a hosting company. Many let users are 15-17 and have a very successful business.

Really? If there truly are "many" 15-to-17-year-olds who have a very successful hosting business, you should be able to name 10 or 20. Can you?

  • I don't see why people are still ranting over this.

@GreenValueHost It is my understanding that once the base of the character in childhood is formed, people basically don't change.

In time, if needed, they might learn to hide their basic characteristics and represent a specific desired image of themselves, depending on the circumstances at the moment, but generally nobody changes the base.

It is what it is, and You are who You are, take it from there and continue. It's human psychology.

Could get a lot higher using Samsung PRO SSDs :), they've recently plummeted in price. Also, which LSI? 9271? 93xx ?

I cannot understand how can an underage person cannot legally drink alcohol, can't have a driver's license in a lot of countries, cannot legally have intercourse with adults, cannot vote but he can open his own business. If he is not liable to perform the "forbidden" tasks I said before, how can be liable to handle a business model, have trades, rent servers and have employes? I can understand that if a person is 18+, or even sometimes 17, has sometimes great knowledge for manage services, even to start a small company, but in the age of 15 or 16, starting a hosting company is more as something to cock to his friends rather than starting his adult professional life... That would be something that could be his own decision, but only if that doesn't affect other people who buy from him without knowing that is dealing with some underage, immature and no truly responsible people...

@GreenValueHost So, what is your current age? Is your business registered anywhere? Do you have your own bank account that handles your business acts?

  • You can have a drivers license at 16 in the US. But the thing about owning a company, is the risk shifts to the counter-party since a minor can unilaterally void a contract (under most circumstances). So that tends to be a self-policing system since companies usually don't want to have that risk.

In the other scenarios, the risk is still borne by the minor, and as a society we tend to protect them as they are young and often make are not responsible enough to make the above listed decisions for them-self.

  • @iwaswrongonce I'm pretty sure it varies by state and there are heavy restrictions until you're 18.

It does, and there are restrictions in most states (such as driving other passengers and how late one can drive). But most states are 16. Wikipedia shows the range from 14 years 3 months (South Dakota) to 17 (New Jersey).

It is generally assumed that life experience is something accumulated and time is an absolute requirement for accumulation of experience. Although there are exceptions, it is still generally true that someone who spends half of every day at school does not accumulate as much real world experience as an adult who deals with the cold hard society from 9-5 every day. Age does not define anything, but it is very easy to lump age and experience together and quite often be correct in doing so. Look for the exceptions, praise the exceptions, but do not simply assume that every child has the life experience of someone twice their age simply because you have met 3, 4, or 5 people who do.

Now I could say most of the above about adults, but the thing about adults is that I expect them to have more life experience. The ones that don't should be the exception, they (short of disabilities) have less valid excuses for not having it.

  • Perhaps I could create one of these threads.

Well, it is all about commitment and honesty. Age does a little here. If you are an ass at age of 15, you will most likely be an ass when you are 30.

When you are older, you will handle stress better. You will have much more refined common sense of business, but your principals and attitude will remain same.

  • While you are humbling yourself ostensibly could you get the three VPSs back on line soon?
They are the ones in the ticket that was put in this morning.

  • GVH got my three VPSs back up after I furnished the complete details.
So they have, on the whole, been heaps better than 95% of other VPS operators.

I am a strong believer that there are no barriers set of age for innovation and success .

I think we have to appreciate his work nevertheless of how old he is . Let it 50, 60... etc . Still it doesn't really matter.

Plus young minds have a good mental stability, time and the environment to innovate . I would definitely hire a youngster more than a person who is completely burdened with tension, pressure, overwhelming and things

The only thing he might be lacking is maturity which i am sure he'll get through after a few days .

Just a live example of what time i said : Mark Zuckeberg was only a 19yr old when he started creating facebook

Feel free to point me out if i am wrong somewhere ! Thanks

  • We have migrated the last of our accounts away from GVH (I spoke too soon) and now have no association with them whatsoever.

Hopefully the migration will appease the great lords and demigods of the tinfoil underworld (bless y'all) and return balance and harmony to The Dark Shire or whatever the latest Palantir narrative is.
