The concept of "charity" is not hard to believe. People should be helping one another without greed, and we all deep-down feel that humanity can evolve through kindness.
However, there is a problem with charity from servers, and that big problem is costs. Datacenters don't offer you setup servers + bandwidth + electricity + maintenance, all for free. From time to time there are datacenters who do this for some big non-profit projects or local projects within their country, but that's on a very small scale.
A low-end provider or small business can not offer charity servers for free, because they need to make money in order to live and get food onto their tables. To this we must also add the problem of charity support and abuses, because we all know free services will get abused by other greedy actors.
Let's say some non-profit organisation or person can partner with a datacenter for very cheap pricing, get money from clients by selling low-end cloud servers, then publicly and transparently donate all proceeds to other non-profit popular projects for which clients can vote on a monthly basis. But there still is the catch of support. Maybe, just maybe, something like this could work if such project could find volunteers offering support for free; however, to be convincing, everything would need to be transparent for proof of non-profit.
Forgive me if this has already been addressed in one of the handful of threads. When a patron provider is banned, are they given a prorated refund ($100 6/months)? LET is a business after all, so I'm curious.
Technically, @CharityHost_org still has "Patron Provider" role, so no reason for a refund
Has the role but is of no use, all their sales threads are locked and sinking to the dredges. They cannot bump them up or answer inquiries.
I'm sure there's a clause on the tag terms that breaking the forum rules or whatever will not result in a refund but don't take my word for it. Just like hosting providers don't refund for ToS/AUP violations.
This is a @DP @FAT32 @raindog308 question regardless.
Do you get refund when you broke provider TOS aka abuse by for example hosting porn botnet? ^.-
Never had or have anything related with them.
Phew, we are not in this wall
Regards.
Morning everyone!
How yall doing? The weather without CH is so nice!
for CH existing customers, contrary to what CH claims about charity etc it looks just like any other low end host, there is a chance the services might be cut off abruptly so i would be mentally prepared to
chargeback yesterday
That's a really good point. There's certainly a chance his ban here and the negative reactions over at LES and even NodeSeek cause genuine issues for him.
Depends on the scenario, if a provider deadpooled we don't usually refund but in this case we can issue prorated refund.
Not refunding a deadpooled provider is a great policy, please keep it firm.
As for this matter, you guys are best equipped to decide which path to take, unless the community has their own preference (I personally have no opinion).
I second this. Don't reward bad behavior from providers.
I was robbed by the Cloudcone, All of my websites data is destroyed by rediculous reason , which I did not establish any mail service on the server.
Can you ban this provider as the same reason?
You can check the mail name is even could not readable to anyone. this is the reason they terminated all servers
Than all my data was detroyed. I have put time and money on the website, now they are all gone.
the IP 74.48.77.91 has no issues in spamhaus, which is a mistake listed.
This provider is even worse than the Charity, now they ignore all the tickets I respond.
We are not ready for more drama...
In all seriousness, I suggest you make an independent thread about this.
Always backup. I have server, app level and app data backups just in case. Triple redundancy
@Cloudcone ^
Thank you
@SantaClaws show your reply which you sent against the show cause notice from cloudcone.
I dislike cloudcone for a different reason but they are very professional in my experience. I stayed with them for 5 years and rarely had issues like this.
LET enables scams AND when a host stands up for themselves they side with the porn addict?!?!
Have they looked into Dustin from RN?
that would be a noble gesture for a miserable figure. i support noble gestures.
all six of your posts on LET are about CH - what is your relationship with them?
Your account smells fishy.
If by "standing up for themselves" you mean "spamming the forum and bullying the LET community," then sure.
finally CharityHost.org is banned.
many future buyers will be saved.
You should clarify further by mentioning that the server backups should be stored on your local network (at home/office) and/or a different server with a different provider. Do not store the backup on the same server OR on a server with the same provider...
This is why no one should make big issue with a man's private collection of porn (of course legally allowed ones).
You can take away our home.
You can take away our land.
You can take away our everything.....
.... Except our stash of porn.
If you stand against, you'll be crushed. CH learnt it in "hard" way.
