I've ordered the 6-core ryzen server.

Ordered to run part of my development environment.
My laptop doesn't have enough RAM to run all the components of a project I'm working on. Especially with the debugging tools.

At least I'm going to try and work like this until I buy a new laptop because the memory isn't expandable.
So I'll provide feedback soon once I've tested it.
And it'll be a good test because I'll be working at least 8 hours a day with it.

let us know what you think

  • @PHP_Friends Do you have daily backups ? or auto snapshots like Hetzner Cloud ?

With Avoro its possible (not sure with the contractual one but I guess also have), 1 backup by default I believe as I am using it

    For those interested

    YABS - 6 cores ryzen - 19.99€ / month
Full disk encryption enabled. So maybe some performance impact ? dunno

It's the performance I was expecting. I just hope they really are dedicated resources.
If not I'm probably going to disturb my neighbours a lot.
I don't know what else I could get with this much ram and dedicated cores in this price range, but it looks competitive.
I would have liked even more memory. It seems possible to upgrade to larger specs from the panel, even if the offers don't seem to be displayed on the site at the moment.

    Hi,

yes, we offer one free backup which can also be automated via our panel. I just tested the disk performance on a new server with Ubuntu 22.04:

The difference with my benchmark is quite huge (IO)
Either disk encryption has a big impact on performance.Or this specific node is incredible
However, this is already sufficient for my needs.

I can confirm that I can't see anything in the dashboard to configure IPv6 myself.
    Definitely an area for improvement.

Apparently included but requires you to open a ticket.
IPv6 info should be available in panel

There's already enough complexity to motivate people to switch to IPv6, having to make a manual request to be able to setup it...
This is not the right way forward.

Not a big deal, but still.

  • Do the "Rootserver S" use a specific Epyc processor or is it a mixture? Thinking of moving from NetCup root server (RS 1000 G9.5) because I'd prefer prepaid but the NetCup one (4 dedi cores of 7702P) performs pretty well so ideally don't want a downgrade

So, when you do re-planing on PHP-Friends consider:

    • 4 CPU
    • 16GB RAM
    • 320GB disk
    • 14-16 EUR

    ....

    • 8 CPU
    • 32GB RAM
    • 500GB disk
    • 20-22 EUR

or whatever similar makes sense to you (lower, higher plans)

Correct, we actually had to buy some additional IP networks for a lot of money, even if we were lucky enough to get a few /24 last year from RIPE :) All servers are hosted right now in FRA / Germany - Los Angeles is planned for 2024.
