I know it dosen't say much, it's ONE (two now lol) instance(s)

But isn't it funny how their network is shitting the bed

While @Calin is here chillin' liking posts with his homemade network

    Just the contrast of it

  • This goes to show that everyone should setup some redundant system and not rely on one host.

I started moving servers away from Terrahost when Epik bought them. Still had a few running but had already prepared for a move, so this just triggered it a bit sooner then planned. I had all services moved quicker then Terrahost fixed the problem, so now that they are back up I will most likely not move anything back.
Sad really, Terra was my favorite lowend provider, loved their panel and performance was always awesome.

Prices are a bit on the high side but Terra is great.

Hey guys. Sorry if folks feel there was a lack of communication. Truth is we did not expect any major issues during this maintenance.

We have redundant feeds. But when one of our routers shat itself we did the best we could, fixing the issue while posting on Terrahoststatus.com.

We probably could have posted updates in more channels, for instance twitter or facebook, it would only take time away from our work resolving the issue. That's why we focus on using Terrahoststatus.com.

But I do agree that the information upfront, regarding this maintenance could have been better. We have an option for clients to subscribe to these emails and we will double check why not everyone received these. It should perhaps be mandatory information for anyone, and instead have an opt-out feature only, as now its opt-in.

@terrahost I bet faith in humanity will be restored when you guys survive the Epik drama. Any reason for the cheapest VPS to be a bit on the expensive side compared to low end providers? I know your security and everything is premium but it still feels a bit expensive.

Yeah I mean Epik has only been hacked once and it was like a decade ago (2 years ago)

Good to hear. Opt-out is the way to go for important notifications like scheduled maintenance.

As usual, people being dramatic about "straw that broke the camels back" when their single VPS hosting their super important blog goes offline for an hour like its the apocalypse. When you signed up and agree to an SLA, did you forget? If they fall below that, make a ticket and they should credit you.

Anyways, if you operated some serious service, where is your redundancy, failover, backup, disaster recovery plan, etc? Even Terrahost KC location was still up no problems.

For me, unscheduled downtimes have been very rare, terrahoststatus.com is nice and informative, and I don't put all my eggs in one basket, so this incident did not have any significant impact to me. I'm satisfied and will stick with Terrahost.

As usual, we've got people making assumptions and not reading the other items and context of what someone was saying.

Yes, this was the "straw that broke the camel's back" for me, and I'm cancelling my services at Terrahost, but there were several other reasons leading up to this. Of course, anyone is entitled to have their different opinions and do what they want. I understand and respect that.

And BTW, I never said in my case it was a VPS for a "super important blog" or said it was "the apocalypse." I never gave details what services I have at Terrahost.

In my case, to summarize it in one place, I'm personally leaving Terrahost because of the following:

    1. The continued general uncertainty of the Epik situation.
    2. Because of #1, the continued uncertainty of Terrahost's place inside the Epik mess.
    3. The extremely poor handling of assets, debts, and obligations at Epik, and general loss of trust with Epik management over time.
    4. The disregard for certain Epik customers before, during, and after the current corporate reorganization.
    5. The poor handling of the big Epik data breach in 2021 which exposed my own personal information. May I remind you, that was a major data breach which included a LOT of information. Go look it up. At the time Rob Monster asked customers to pray for Epik.
    6. The uncertainty of domain renewals and other services at Epik during different phases of the Epik drama, including extremely poor customer service at the time.
    7. The hassle migrating all services out of Epik while all this was going on.
    8. The fact that Terrahost is still part of this Epik drama (either in Epik and/or Kingdom Ventures), all of which is still unfolding.
    9. The response of Terrahost in the Epik thread in this forum where Terrahost said essentially that the Epik drama does not affect Terrahost in any way, that they are a separate entity, and it would just mean a change of ownership.
    10. Of course the Epik situation potentially affects Terrahost in a major way, since Terrahost was fully owned by Epik, and depending on whatever business reorganizations, settlements and legal resolutions are made, Terrahost could be significantly affected. Keep in mind the Epik situation is not fully resolved. So no matter how "separate" Terrahost is, the situation could absolutely affect them since they are a fully-owned asset of Epik/Kingdom Ventures.
    11. The idea that Terrahost is owned, and/or managed, or partly managed, or even just associated with Kingdom Ventures (it's not even totally clear yet who the assets belong to), and Rob Monster has anything to do with Terrahost, indirectly or directly, is not something that gives me any confidence, no matter how "separate" Terrahost claims they are.
    12. The 5% settlement offer on money owed by Epik to customers was offensive. In all honesty, I can't in good conscience continue to pay for services that are part of Epik to support management that would propose such a poor idea to customers that were taken for a ride with Epik. When I read about the 5% offer, at that point, I was already leaning to cancel my Terrahost services too.
    13. Until all that is fairly resolved, I have personally lost confidence in anything owned by or managed by Epik or Kingdom Ventures. I wish them well so they can fix this and do the right thing for the customers that took a financial loss, but I prefer to stay away. Terrahost was next up on the list for me to cancel, but I was delaying the decision to finally cancel to see if something good was going to be announced from Epik.
    14. And then Terrahost has poor communication about two outages in one day that directly affected me and my clients, and honestly, I just didn't want to deal with any of this any more.

And yes, item 14 can happen with any provider, and maintenance happens with every provider, but after all the other stuff, yes, that poor communication prior to and at the time of the outage is what "broke the camel's back" as the saying goes. But there were several things before that and leading up to that. I had already migrated all my stuff out of Epik (which was a pain in the neck), except for Terrahost, and this was the last bit to push me over the edge.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Who cares what I do. I generally like Terrahost and was really hoping Epik would make a really positive move in the right direction. And yes, when the dust settles with Epik, I might come back to Terrahost. For now, it's not for me. If you feel like staying, go for it. But in all fairness, your characterization of what I said in this thread what not accurate.

And for the record, I'm happy that Terrahost came into the thread and apologized for the lack of communication. For me, it doesn't change the larger issues leading up to this, and I've made my decision, but I totally get why people will stay with Terrahost. Again, I wish them all the best, and wish they never got involved in Epik in the first place. Then I'd still be a customer.

    Cheers to everyone.

You're a good guy, I appreciate you always paying attention. Feel free to close it if you feel it is best. I don't have anything else to say, lol. I think I hit my word count again today.

The "issue" of downtime specifically is done and over.

Hope you all have a great day. And cheers again.
