ISPConfig is solid.
For 27€/6months you can get a premium Howtoforge subscription which allows you to download the ISPConfig manual, prepared .iso files from their tutorials, browse it without ads (yeah adblocker hahaha), and - which is the best feature imho - allows you to post your questions in the "premium" section of the ISPConfig forum where they are answered with high priority. That being said Till, the owner/manager/guy of ISPConfig responds like almost daily to all regular threads as well. Priority is answered faster though. So it's like purchasing support in a way, too. Not that you wouldn't get support without that too. Regardings ISPConfig setup there are various tutorials on Howtoforge which you can all access as a non-subscriber too, so don't really get what is so hard about setting it up:

VestaCP is the most user friendly panel among the free ones imho.
I've yet to give CentOS a thorough try.
you know... there is a fork, which is more actively maintained and also already has some improved features: https://github.com/hestiacp/hestiacp
debian/ubuntu only, thx. ;-)
Thanks mate! Lucky you're over there or I'd be humping your leg right now..
Have a look at Keyhelp, very simple installation , is free and has a modern UI.

Sentora & CyberPanel.
Cyberpanel with oneclick in Digitalocean, very simple setup.
CyberPanel all the way
I've found Virtualmin a decent solution to stick on a VM for handing out basic hosting to friends/family
Sure the interface is horrendous, but for that kind of hosting it's FTP that matters
Also it supports Debian which is nice, most control panels are RHEL only
great control panel for personal projects only.
Plesk & cPanel is great for commercial purpose.
I like DirectAdmin new skin, makes their control panel much better:

RIP OP... Why are these Plesk, cPanel and DirectAdmin are even mentioned in “free control panels” thread.
Some free control panels I have stumbled
from this blog:
I like VestaCP, but you will have to firewall and protect your sites. Exploit can elevate privileges from a web shell. Not sure if there is still 0day vulnerability with VestaCP.
CyberPanel is what appears to be most popular and stable. Openlitespeed is interesting.
all will die
Have tried a couple as well including recent free Directadmin license for every KVM (space cake) slice @ buyvm
Still found Cyberpanel easiest to use and that litespeed works great out of the box.
It is also one of the fastest to install (all in ) with one command. Average of 11mins, best was 7mins.
ISP Config is very good. I'm using it for many years.
I just saw that yesterday. Might pick one up in LU when they get stock
I have some recommendations

https://www.appnode.com/
If you can read chinese.
(They are all free and convenient to use)
I have a VPS on lightsail that I did not want to buy CPANEL for (especially not now with the rate increase) Plus you need a pretty powerful server just to run a CPANEL setup. The cloudlinux addons make it expensive. I host mainly wordpress sites.
I was really intrigued by lightspeed webserver, so I found and tried cyberpanel, which I really liked. But it's still a little buggy for me to want to give anyone else access to it. (file manager issues, large file upload / download issues), and the separate interface for litespeed administration is frustrating and pretty complex. (Setting up htpass is a lot of work). I had issues with mod_security rule configuration too. I've also found the speed benefits of LS is reduced with newer versions of PHP... and might not be worth the hassle compared to a good cache setup + CDN. It's harder to find troubleshooting advice / solutions / contractor help with lightspeed too.
I recently setup a new server with Virtualmin and LOVE IT. The interface is kind of complex at first, but it's easy to get to everything which minimizes SSHing into config files. I personally find it has benefits compared to CPANEL. Some things that are annoying are user management. CPANEL has separate FTP, Database, HTPASS user accounts. Virtualmin kind of combines these separate concepts into a central user and it can be confusing to configure separate ftp, database, and htpass permissions for a single addon user.
Everything else about it, installation, SSL setup, the file manager, php versions, changing config settings, etc. I have found really easy and solid. Installation and updates are way easier than CPANEL.
All her ports are open by default.
Define pretty powerful? cPanel is really not that bad.
ajenti seems to have some updates on the master branch on the 12th of June, https://github.com/ajenti/ajenti/tree/master
For personal use, better not to use panel. Learn SSH and you will even understand how panel works. With SSH and understanding server systems such as OS, nginx, apache, iptables, databases, and/or PHP , you will also able to protect your servers well, even if you use panels.
But for free panel vote we prefer vestacp. As we are able to easily use the API and integrate in our own dashboard.
If you are planning to use it for your clients, then I suggest to have a very good backup strategy and plan B, just in case.
I try aapanel, i-mscp, vestacp, cyberpanel, ispconfig, ajenti, froxlor, virtualnim, webmin, ...
Aapanel is opensource and its not completed.
Vestacp is not good designed, but its best free product.

I saw demo now. Need to try. Mobile friendly.
I was about to say that my only issue with KeyHelp is the lack of a web-based file manager, but when I checked the demo just now, it already has one!
Apparently KeyHelp did a major update and added a number of new features, including the ability for the end-user to finally add domains themselves! Nice!
I wonder how many of these features like file managers exist as drupal modules that could be plugged together.
keyhelp only support apache now?
Currently, yea
ISPConfig.... Nothing else
