512MB ought to be enough for anybody.

when this site started we were jamming as much shit into 64MB as we could, as we didn't need those pricy, overpowered 384MB-RAM slots Linode offered on their 'cheapest' $20/mo plan

    Yeah.
I remember my first x86 had like 2MB ram and a 40MB hdd.
    And it wasn't exactly cheap.

Now 512MB is next to nothing.

  • Got a notice in midnight and I was too sleepy to lay a hand on the checkout button.

    @Francisco

We have reviewed your recent order, but are unable to process your order due to the following discrepancies:

    Payment details mismatch - Email

Please note that as per our Terms of Service, we require both the account and method of payment details to match. Please be aware that this policy is mandatory for client accounts, and exceptions are not granted. Please review our TOS for clarification - https://buyvm.net/terms-of-service/

If you're going to make a change to the TOS....you might want to actually put this in your TOS!

In 8 years of being a customer, I've never had an issue until this morning, unreal.

    Check section #3.

The policy has been in place since 2015. It's likely Aldryic only enforced it on people when he was looking for excuses to throw people out, but Karen has to enforce it now since Paypal uses it as a reason to rule against us in chargebacks.

These days the email we have on file for a user has to match the paypal email, that way if someone makes a claim of "Never received", we have email logs saying they did.

It'll be tomorrow/day after, just have to finish some other work.

    LV & NY have some.

    Yeah, got one in LV

  • Got one in LV also but seems like the client area is timing out for me.

  • I like it! Time to replace my 8.5 year old 128MB OVZ VM with a shiny new slice+slab

  • @Toadyus, same problem here
    "Payment details mismatch - Email"

They want us to use main Paypal email address for safety from chargebacks.
But personally I won't use the main Paypal address anywhere else.

Likewise. I also had a problem with the partial (though valid) address given.
All my other providers, including domain registrars, never have an issue - sometimes need to verify details.
    Told Frantech to forget it.

What's the issue? Can't use credit card only but require paypal account?

Since everything is sold out; great policy change imho.

CCs are just fine, we need to make sure details are valid.

Most hosts don't have our low charge back rates either. I shouldn't be paying a $30 charge back fee because I didn't want to inconvenience a $2 service.

If you're ever interested in the future you can ping me and I can talk to Karen about your tickets.

@Francisco can you give a quick pointer to guidelines for "fair share" cpu use?

I'm on a 1 gb slice and noticing cpu often above 50% while doing a long-running file transfer via scp, writing to LUKS encrypted partition.

It's working fine for me - I'm assuming I can let it ride for a few hours without being considered a noisy neighbor in the fair share cpu deal.

EDIT2: load average is (more or less) stable around 0.9 and system is responsive so would guess it's not going to be a problem to run for a while.

Just looking for any details on what "fair share" means in terms of self-regulating processes in normal workload - guessing that I don't need to worry about that on a slice (within reasonable parameters)?
