"Payment by Paypal (+100% fees - minimum amount 1,5 €)" - so that defeats the offer entirely! :-|

go to coinbase and buy some bitcoin and send payment in BTC

  • Thanks but I'm sure I can live without this, rather than jump through hoops. I'll pass on this provider.

What are the prices outside the offer? I'm curious how high will be the costs once the 2 year offer expires?
Found them on the Web Archive, in case someone else needs them: http://web.archive.org/web/20180511085617/https://1fichier.com/tarifs.html

  • What can i host and not host with 1fichier? Even by reading the french version of the ToS the only thing i was able to find is "no child porn" in the abuse page.

I don't think uploading stuff for cold or even hot storage is the problem, but actually sharing it. If you store something nasty, but don't share it then nobody can file a complaint against you and I truly doubt they have the capacity to verify each file by hand.

I was thinking about getting 1fichier and mount it as a network share on my server to add some storage in case i'm running short on hdd by putting there data i rarely need. However, i'd need to access it asap when i actually need it.

Can you even do that with 1fichier?

I don't think that you could do that. Their system is very basic and lacks a lot of basic UI/UX functionality, while on the backend... well you can only upload via the browser, FTP and remote. You don't have an app or otherwise and you cannot mount it as there do not appear to be supported protocols.
It's fine for me to upload stuff that I do not need or access on a daily basis for cold storage, but otherwise I'd have no use for it.

  • Can't you use just ftp? Or is it just for uploading and doesn't give out a directory listing?

    Just read this thread?

  • There's no directory listing via FTP. Also there's no support for sub-directories when uploading. For me it's OK. It serves the purpose of storing data that I do not use on a daily basis. And it's good as a mirror of some of my data so it's totally worth the cost. However it really depends on one's needs and expectations.

You can now create up to 10 FTP accounts in dashboard and assign a folder to them :)

It wouldn't work with plex (afaik).

  • Whilst it says 100TB, exceeding 2TB of storage will get you a "gtfo" letter.

Wordpress plugins that support FTP work so cpanel will work, too. It just gets pushed to your root folder of 1Fichier OR if you create a FTP account (max. 10) to which you can assign a directory e.g. create specific ftp user and folder for you cpanel backups and other for your wp backups. Ofc ou can also manually move files/folders later via dashboard.

their CDN price is high and there is no option on them to limit the usage of their CDN. Its ridicoulous.

Please share cheaper CDN prices. I am very curious.

  • 0.005/GB is quite low, enough that it made me wonder if their CDN was any good.

I believe it's not a proper CDN as in multiple POPs all over the world but from what I understand you just tag the files as hotlinks in the management UI and then these files can be downloaded directly without having to go through some pre-download page you normally get with file hosters where you have to click a button or sth. similar to start the download.

^ This. CDN is more or less your hotlink balance in GB. When you check my review thread you will find speedtests of "cdn"/hotlink vs. regular download. Regular was often faster.

  • Hi all, quick question if someone could help. I've used the "registered" version for awhile and I have no complaints. I'm looking for a place to park about 1TB and there is a one of those bitcoin atm's (seemingly on every other block) in a store on the path I walk my dog, from what I can tell using bitcoin cash or litecoin would be best for my purposes(i'm aware of the markup but this method is most convenient for me). Before I commit I was wondering if one of those $10-20/yr vps deals I see on LEB would let me use something like rapidleech to transfer files from openload to 1fichier. Any commentary would be appreciated.

  • According to Reddit, They start sending you abuse emails around the 30TB mark. Which honestly is pretty fair for the price.

no still not cheap if you dont have limit function.
On 1fichier and if you provide their cdn to your customers then you eventually run out of your cdn credits quickly. Not a good solution from the price/bw point of view.
They should implement at least a limitation option.

    How? What do you mean?
Their "CDN" is just a misleading name for their hotlink option. How would someone provide that to their customers?
The french often go a bit crazy with words. Just look at what they call a "toilet". It's a shower cabin where you are supposed to squat while trying to position your a-hole over a small hole in the ground.

But I agree that a limit (maybe even per file or folder) would be great!
