I think they have been concentrating on getting higher up the food chain for a while now, they have been approaching a lot of UK hosts guaranteeing to beat current prices.

    Zare vs Clouvider?

  • They also stopped using Voxility ddos protection and now have their own in house ddos mitigation with Corero. I am seeing this trend lot of providers are getting away from Voxility because of the network performance issues.

  • Their website does not have a link to vps page anymore that means they have closed their doors, but you can always ask ?

    On Price, Zare destroys Clouvider

On literally everything else, Clouvider wins.

Essentially Zare is a budget version of rapidswitch/iomart, nothing is that good, except the price, including reputation.

Do you have metrics to back this up?

I have network info and quotes and email responses from both yes.

Alongside the volumes spoken on LET about Zare post sale (I forget the name of the host they bought).

Zare seems to be priced similary as Clouvider, or at least the prices I found.

List price, perhaps, but when Zare of guaranteeing to beat any rapidswitch quote.. well.. that's a whole new level of low price.

To be clear I pay Clouvider almost double what I was paying Rapidswitch because quite frankly the Rapidswitch network and support quality got so low you would think GVH owned them, and Zare believe they can beat them and maintain a long-term sustainable service at a higher level of quality.

Good stuff costs money, if the good stuff is cheap, good stuff never stays good for long.

Its true we no longer provide VPS to new customers, they are still available to existing ones however. We have chosen to focus solely on our bare metal offerings.

In regards to sustainability of our pricing and quality of our hardware - we only use the best. You can see pictures on our Twitter and Blog of the sort of equipment we use; its all brand new enterprise grade Juniper and SuperMicro. Our data centre is in the heart of the Docklands, London with diverse networking and A+B power to all servers/switches/routers.

We also don't rely on third party DDoS services, we have our own filtering equipment in-house which is managed 24/7 by ourselves and a team of experts at Corero.

Our entire manager is built in-house by our developers and provides all the features you could want and more, entirely revolved around bare metal servers.

@AnthonySmith If you think we are missing anything - please let us know as we are always looking to improve where we can! :)

it's just hidden, I can still add credit and deploy new ones no issue.

It's also NOT called "VPS" anymore, you WONT see the word VPS anywhere on their site. Just enter the URL you can see in my address bar if you have an existing account

Your blog URL seems to be not working.

Other than that I can vouch for Zare. They have their problems but I always have the feeling that they take everything seriously and care about their customers.

    Basically log in to https://manager.zare.com/

add credit and make a payment profile here https://manager.zare.com/billing#payment_profiles

    and then go here https://manager.zare.com/deploy/cloud

and there you go, a cloud server or "VPS" on Zare

TLDR: They still do, I visited their site a month ago and was like "Oh they don't offer it anymore?" and then poked around and found it so it's still offered as of now until they completely remove and disable the "Cloud" section of their manager.

I would love to own Corero hardware, to be able to take advantage of a hardware firewall, however they're pretty expensive, even this eBay auction for one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Corero-SmartWall-Threat-Defense-System-TDS-DDOS-Protection-Appliance-/162348598962?hash=item25ccbb06b2:g:KT8AAOSwEzxYbcBq for $18k costs almost as much as some new cars on the market like a nissan versa, plus original MSRP of $100k like woah

  • ZareZare Member, Host Rep

@ethancedrik Yes they are very expensive, worth noting ours were also bought brand new directly from Corero too.

Yeah, it's nice to have providers besides OVH that use in-line ddos protection/mitigation as it's a proven technology

If you're replacing switches today and putting in EX4200 it would suggest they are also used, as it doesn't make sense to but a new EX4200 today neither commercially or feature-wise.

Netgears are being phased out and replaced.

being, so are not replaced, thus the original statement is false ;-). Along with network claims on Twitter about adding capacity to Cogent or LINX since you don't seem to have neither connected, http://bgp.he.net/AS200039, you're singlehomed to Bandwidth Technologies AS25369 as your sole upstream in London, correct ?

So the router is used from grey market, right ?

Your 2nd from the top blog post shows brand new Netgears http://i.imgur.com/6lYvCak.jpg installed. I won't argue reliability, nor why someone even chose them in the first place. That's not a first choice for someone who "only use the best. " and "all brand new enterprise grade Juniper".

I'm not interested in starting a flame war here, but you seriously need to stop advertising using false claims, it's not fair.

Yep, inline is definitely the way to go in our opinion, the mitigation speed cannot be beaten.

    @clouvider

I should have been more clear, obviously not all our kit is brand new, some is refurbished where it isn't viable to purchase new. All SuperMicro kit, CPU's, RAM and drives are brand new.

The Netgears are being phased out and replaced and this only started recently, so some Netgears are still in-use, its a long process unfortunately. I don't see how this statement is false?

Do you have any pics/blogs about your setup? I'm always interested to read about things like this :)

Terms & Conditions of neither Telehouse, Equinix nor Virtus do not allow to even bring a camera inside, yet alone take any pictures. I guess your Datacentre has similar terms. I'd invite you to check on it.

Clouvider core is based on MX480, MX240 and MX104 routers, with dual routing engines and Trio 3D chipset based fabric. We use Dark Fibre resilient ring and own DWDM between all sites. All our routers are brand new as

Zare said: it isn't viable to purchase new

it's always viable to purchase new, since Juniper does not provide support to grey market / used equipment. Also Junos and Junos64 are only licensed to the ORIGINAL purchaser and you're not allowed to pass them on to anyone else as per the License Agreement. With no support from Juniper you can end badly in case you hit a bug. Great example is Namecheap here, https://blog.namecheap.com/juniper-network-issue-on-friday-explanation/ who thankfully had support from Juniper and could fix their issues that brought their entire routing offline by being provided the service release cooked for them by Juniper to fix the problem before the next release cycle (which may take months).

New kit also allows you to use the new technology without later replacing 80% of the kit at a great expense. Including, for example, new routing engines and SCBE2 in MX480 that allows us to flick 100GE online only by adding a new line card when needed.

Clouvider core operates on MPLE-TE. We use geographically disperse routing sites currently hosted with Telehouse at their brand new building, North 2, Equinix LD8 and Virtus LON1. A new fibre is being built as we speak to Volta in the City of London. We can provide services including MPLS tunnelling, VPLS, Datacentre Bringing and others. We have the following carriers spread across all core routing sites: Level3, NTT, GTT, Telia, Cogent, so all top 5 carriers by number of AS or prefixes carried. We have a paid premium peering with Liberty Global for their EU networks, including Virgin Media (owned now by LG). Clouvider has an open peering policy on LINX Juniper and Extreme. We're also LINX partner and reseller in the Connexions program in case anyone is interested in heaving LINX backhauled by us.

We have also deployed FlowSpec at all core sites meaning we can utilise our routers to scrub the bad traffic before it reaches any other network element, at line-rate, utilising all our uplinks if needed. We can also escalate to NTT should we become overpowered by an attack. NTT naturally has quite a bit of capacity available as a Tier-1. We're also ready for the near future when carriers will start accepting FlowSpec rules from their Customers which will enable one to mitigate attacks using carriers routers globally before it even reaches your port.

Neither me here, my part here started purely as a correction of "not clear" statements.

    Hope this clarifies : )

Both of the providers from what I can see are competitive in pricing and both seem to have reliable hardware. I doubt this is a win and lose situation more like compare and contrast. Kudos to both for being good providers in that area.
