Guys, Thats a Deals thread, everytime you post something offtopic, a kitten dies.

No, you're talking about the thread where providers post photos of their staff and they have some (real or pretend) females on the team.

I still feel bad about @QuadraNet_Adam lol

  • I'm going to bed before I decide I don't have enough idle power.

  • VortexMagnus said: Yep, we had a big bunch of them. Around 12 left :)

Looks like there's still some. Are you cool with 1 month rentals? I.e. buy, then immediately "cancel at end of billing period"? Purpose = testing, benchmarks, etc. plus want to compare the E3 answer of a big problem to a somewhat suspicious i7-3770 answer.

Of course hitting the cancel button might be difficult at that price... "E3-1220, ewww, sloww" but it's half the price of a 1245 and more than half as fast, so just get two of them :)

Ok, fair enough :). I think if I did that with the Hetzner auction, no human would ever even notice, so I might try it sometime.

I'm half tempted to get one just for the damn /29 and call it 'devbox'.. then again I still haven't deployed to the other VN host I have all setup with KVM and happy now..

Don't know about the /29 but having a dedi as a devbox is a wonderful liberating feeling. Saying "make -j 8" and rebuilding ffmpeg in 2 minutes is great, as is doing a 12 hour data crunching task without anyone bothering you and you them.

    20 USD...
    Hmmm.... so tempting.....
I can have one and let it idle....

Hey, do you still have any SSD superdeal servers?

Maybe I can get one and offer shared idling plans on it. I'll make a fortune.

Maybe not a New Year deal but...

    HVH OpenVZ 4GB RAM, 4 "E3s Cores", 300GB HDD @ $5/mo still available

Disk throughput is slow as expected for this amount of storage

    iops is fine however:

Geekbench is giving me weird results:

    http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/8214582

It looks like the vps act as 4 cores @ 848Mhz but it using only one core @ 3400Mhz

    Time to investigate

    Edit: Just realized that 3400 / 4 = 850

Got my $17/mo (Paid annually) box from DbD a while back. Looks like I received a bumped up CPU (E3-1270 instead of E3-1230) and a HDD upgrade (1TB instead of 500GB). Specs look pretty good for the price, but the transatlantic connectivity could certainly be a lot better.

    Here's a quick bench -

Ordered an Atom for 3 months, because some turds must have abused it for one at $5. I'd have paid for the full year, ut it costs the same, so fuggit.

MY IDLE IS ALMOST THE SAME ON MY SERVERS AS MY CARS- I ONLY DRIVE ONE AT A TIME!

I had to send them blood, urine, and semen, but it took about a week after they did a taste test.

    Total time: Under 3 weeks.
