I thought it was only RBX* that was being upgraded?

    I just got 2x KS-1's... :)

    KS-1 - GRA1 - Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 26
    KS-1 - GRA1 - Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 24
    KS-2 - GRA1 - Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 80

It's going to suck for me if that DC dies :D

Additionally - are OS re-installs free or do they charge after a certain amount of re-installs?

Free, it's all automated so makes no difference to them.

  • just realize today that they kill the RTM in the control panel for my server.

Real time monitoring : RTM is not available on this server.

Last week it was still there..

You have to open the right ports on your server

    Which port bro?

  • I found RTM to be temperamental. It worked on my server in BHS but not my server in RBX, despite both running identical setups.

    UDP 6100:6200 in and out

Also, I remember having to wait a while before having first records to show up.

I think they decided to only offer the servers in BHS facility for NA customers... Look at this...

    kimsufi.com/ca/en/

  • :) The canada kimusif's have been on ALL european sites for months now. People around here own quite a bunch of KS3 and 4s and even KS1s and 2s :)

They allocated very limited space for kimsufi servers to begin with judging by the rack(section) names,

    http://status.ovh.com/vms/index_bhs1.html

I don't think KS5, KS6 was ever available in BHS and the relatively few KS1, KS2 are sold out long ago and there is probably no plans to add more.

  • Servers located in GRA1 are supposed to have 1gbps connection?
    Thanks for reply.

    Not for KS. Not yet

  • Not yet, so something will happen or there is no chance?
Sorry for questions but I'd like to know :)
    Thanks.

  • It is really strange pricing. I wonder how will they cover their costs - hardware, bandwidth, security, cooling, support etc.

These aren't as costly as your typical server, these are motherboards on trays, you'll fit more than 1 Kimsufi in a 1U space. It's old hardware, OVH will have already have covered the cost of these things. OVH are really efficient with their cooling and they've plenty of bandwidth so this sort of offer is more than manageable for them.

But still - security, support, power and profit. I still cannot fathom how this can be done under $10

The CEO of Online.net mentioned that their recent kidéchire server cost them around 3-4EUR to provide, so 5EUR for OVH is definitely manageable, OVH are operating on a much larger scale than Online.net.

    How about we calculate? :)

Hardware of 2gb RAM would be around $50(refurbished). Lets say that they intend to find returns on this in three years.

    Hardware cost per month: $50/36 = $1.38

Electricity consumption on old machines was on the higher side. Lets say 200 watts. This means

    Electricity cost per month: (200/1000) x 0.10 x 24 x 30 = $14.4

Bandwidth they have a lot but still its not like they do not have a lot of clients. Lets keep this cost to minimal of $1 per month(neglecting the cost of cables, hardware, NOC)

    Bandwidth cost per month: $1

Cooling cost is usually equal to the electricity cost

    Cooling cost per month: $14.4

    Total cost per month: $31.18

This cost still does not include security, legal, insurance, support team etc.

  • Those servers are not 200 watts, the Atom N2800 has a tdp of 6.5 watts, if i need to guess, i guess the total wattage at around 30 to 35 watts

Ordered a server Saturday and needed validation. Just been validated and setup in GRA.

    root@xxxx:~# smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep Power_On
      9 Power_On_Hours 0x0012 098 098 000 Old_age Always - 1040
    root@xxxx:~#
  • What is the validation scheme there? I sent the documents needed on friday, but my account is still not validated.
I see a lot of people waiting since weeks or even months!

    It's completely hit and miss.
