This is a scam. I'm not paying a monthly fee for a "lifetime" server.
I wouldn't be surprised if they started ignoring issues affecting legacy panel users to force them to migrate.
No, it is not required, as explained in the post you literally linked
That wouldn’t be allowed and would lead to a huge lawsuit. They will however only do security patches on the legacy panel.
Have we just stopped proof reading stuff before clicking publish , the amount of ai slop in that blog
Hello I'm old, I would like a tldr of what both is. Fanks
Has anyone bought one and tested it? I'm curious if anyone has had a positive or negative experience with the lifetime VPS plan.
zap-hosting offers lifetime server that you only pay for once (high initial price) and then need to open the product in panel every 3-4 months to keep it.
They now switch to a new control panel where you get backups for your servers, don't need to open the product to keep it and also a AI that can interact with the controls instead of you doing it yourself. If you want that, you need to pay a monthly fee, up to 16€/m depending on how many lifetime servers you have.
Yes, I have a bunch and there is also a thread on LES with a few people having a bunch too. It is very stable, support answers between 5-15 minutes, if the AI auto answer isn't good enough, which is most of the time good enough. They somehow got it right. They also patch vulnerabilities very fast, for example their PHP version on all webhosting offers were patched in, I think, 30 minutes or so.
tldr;
ZAP-Hosting sells “lifetime” servers at prices closer to yearly rates. But to use them, you need a $4.99/month ZapX pass. Without it, your VPS is locked and its IP revoked even if you bought the cheapest plan. The flat fee applies whether your VPS has 4GB or 16GB RAM.
"The locking" Feature is how they are peddling the logic of "it's still always your server"
@loay your also incorrect for life-time users you do HAVE to migrate, without the monthly pass you cannot use your servers. You cannot buy the Pass without the new panel.
The reason they say "no user HAS to migrate" is because your server will simply stay "locked" (there wording) until you do receive a monthly pass.
Can you read?
Yes I can, and if you actually read the small print, or watch there nice YT video.
it specifies if you do not have an active pass, and you only have life-time servers they will be "locked" in the old panel.
So yes your right, if you want to stare at an inactive server log into the old! you don't have too your right!
They say it over and over "No current obligation" this in English if you cannot read means eventually.
lol selling stuff labelled as “lifetime” and demanding a monthly fee to keep it is nothing but a scam. How are people ok with it?
When companies pull this kind of move we need to have some sort of wall of shame kind of like the sso.tax website.
What do you mean by looked, I have multiple lifetime servers and they are in the old panel just like before, it doesn't matter. You have to open the product page every 3-4 months to keep it active, that's it. You are not required to pay the fee to keep the product, you will just not receive new features as time goes on.
Because you don't have to
Oh so ur stupid enough to buy that crap? XD
Sorry I have to over explain my logic to you so it gets through ur thick skull but if a providers changes life-time to monthly, and uses the logic of "Currently no obligation" my mind, and I assume anyone with over 50IQ and the companies history ASSUMES it will be REQUIRED. Maybe not this second maybe not this month but it's clear it's happening pal.
No, only if you've already migrated to ZapX then you didn't pay the subscription the server is still yours but locked until you pay the fee.
from their blog post:
You do realise that they are a German company operating under German law, right? They are obligated to follow their ToS. If they force you to migrate, you can easily get your money back.
Looks to me like the whole "lowend" bubble is starting slow, but steady, to crack here and there... may not me much until it bursts.
Talking about this whole market segment, not only about OP's provider.
Again this applies aslong as they keep there promise.
A broken already fractured lie that of which u assumed you'd be on the same panel as everyone else for life. Unless they clarified to you on sign-up you'd be getting lesser treatment, no longer developed panel and thrown off upgrades because of there own "Lifetime" promise.
if you think this won't REQUIRE a move at some point, atleast you have the respect of the sitatuon to call it a "ransome" fee.
Oh great! that will totally work yeah. of course. clearly have no understanding of the LAW or met many business owners that don't like to give away a penny when things go south German, English, USA or not.
ALSO TO HELP OUT IN THERE OWN ToS ALSO LIFETIME REFERS TO THERE OPERATIONAL ABILITY TO KEEP GOING, ALSO COUPLED WITHNA 14-DAY RETURN POLICY IF THEY REMOVE THEM, OR FORCE THE MIGRATION U ARE WHATS THE WORD FUCKED. NO GERMAN LAW IS SAVING YOU IT SAVES THEM.
How easily?
Fair question, "easily" was a bit optimistic, especially here on LET. It depends on how Zap handles it, where you live and what exactly they change. Right now there's nothing to claim, since the Pass is optional and lifetime servers keep running in the old panel. If they ever make it mandatory, I'd expect Zap to offer some kind of pro-rata refund rather than risk a court case they would most likely lose. If they don't, and 50+ customers are affected, a German consumer org can bring a collective action for everyone. Otherwise it's an individual case: in Germany via the court dunning procedure (Mahnverfahren), in other EU countries via the European Small Claims Procedure (up to €5,000). Outside the EU it's harder to enforce, even though German law still applies through their ToS.
Either way, German law is on the customer's side here, not Zap's.
@LEBUserJoe since you said "no German law is saving you, it saves them", here's what actually applies:
Zap's own ToS (https://legacy.zap-hosting.com/en/terms/)
German law (BGB)
Without going into the specifics about this current situation, there is certainly some that do. They can't change the terms without you explicitly and actively agreeing to it, and by that not just some bs banner with only "ok". (Netflix got taught that recently). The question is, would you sue over it 🤷♂️
Now if they stop providing the service. Sure, that might happen worst case.
you have to much fucking time on ur hands pal., tldr; your wrong ToS can be changed essentially anytime, and it's already "vague" enough to be applied in 1000x different ways to Fuck YOU over but keep gagging.
Comedy is even if they did have to "forcefully refund" which no customer is applying enough legal pressure, the amount isn't set in stone they can offer you $1 as a remedy due to already sustained usage it's pretty much up to there interpretation. (IF) lol.
Makes me giggle even more that you see what they have just pulled in-front of your face and pulled ur pants down and your so sure already it won't happen again.
You bought a life-time server they are changing the terms on your and u have 10 inch deep object in ur throat trying to project ur hope.
You’re treating a possible future dispute as if a court has already ruled on it. That’s the main problem with your argument.
“There’s nothing to claim right now.”
Agreed. ZAP says existing Lifetime servers can still run in the old panel without a Pass, and moving is voluntary. So there is no present mandatory Pass fee to challenge. But that cuts both ways: nobody can yet claim a refund or damages based on a hypothetical future lockout either.

“Lifetime means lifelong use, except inactivity.”
That is what the current terms say but it doesn’t settle what happens if ZAP later changes the service. The terms also allow blocking after three months without panel access, followed by deletion after a further four weeks without contact. So “lifetime” already has express limits; quoting the label alone doesn’t prove unlimited service under every future technical arrangement.
zap-hosting.com
“ZAP can’t terminate a Lifetime product.”
The cited clause appears to restrict ordinary termination at the end of a contract term. It does not, by itself, establish that the service can never be suspended, altered, or discontinued for any other reason. The terms themselves separately provide for blocking and deletion in the inactivity case. Whether a particular future shutdown would be lawful is a different question.
zap-hosting.com
“Price changes need express consent, so a Pass can’t be required.”
That mixes up changing the price of the existing contract with offering a different product or migration route. ZAP currently says the old-panel Lifetime service remains available without a Pass; its new ZapX setup is a separate option. The terms alone don’t prove in advance that customers would automatically win.

“§327r means a mandatory fee is prohibited.”
Too categorical. §327r concerns changes to digital products and sets conditions for when those changes may be made; it isn’t a blanket rule that every change involving a fee is automatically invalid. The key factual question would be whether the original service remains available as contracted, and the legal question would be whether the proposed change meets the statutory requirements. You can argue a new fee would be unlawful in a specific scenario, but you can’t present that conclusion as already established.
“Locking the server means the customer can end the contract and get a pro-rata refund.”
Not automatic. The remedies in §§327c and 327m depend on the specific failure to provide or non-conformity and on the statutory conditions being met. Section 327o’s refund mechanism is not a general promise to repay a proportion of every lifetime purchase whenever a dispute arises. A customer would first need a legally valid basis to end the contract, and the amount due would depend on the facts.
§§280 and 281 don’t create automatic damages. A customer would need to establish the required breach, loss, causation, and other legal conditions. “The company might owe damages if it breaches the contract and causes provable loss” is defensible; “damages are due” is not.
“§327f requires security updates for the whole provision period, so the legacy panel must stay supported.”
An update duty is not the same thing as a promise to maintain every panel or feature forever. The scope and duration of the update obligation depend on the contract and applicable statutory rules. ZAP has said the old panel is no longer being developed but will continue receiving security updates and bug fixes; that’s evidence about its current plan, not proof that the law guarantees that exact panel indefinitely as there is none.

“A German consumer organisation can bring a collective action for everyone once 50 customers are affected.”
Misleading. Germany has representative-action procedures, but they are brought by qualifying entities not by any group of customers and there are additional admissibility requirements. The 50-person threshold does not mean 50 customers automatically get one collective lawsuit or an automatic payout.

“EU customers can use Small Claims up to €5,000.”
Only with important qualifications: it is for eligible cross-border civil or commercial claims, the cap is €5,000 excluding expenses, and Denmark is excluded. It is a procedure for pursuing a claim, not a shortcut that proves the claim is valid.
European Union
“Three years from the breach.”
That leaves out an important part of §199: the standard three-year period generally begins at the end of the year in which the claim arose and the customer knew, or should have known, the relevant facts and who was responsible. Different claims can also have different limitation rules. So “three years from the breach” is not a reliable universal deadline for a "lifetime" service.
This was pretty much more core point, guy acting like the police would be at Zaps door. Would take a colloborative, expensive process to even get a chance at a potential % refund (Of already used services of X years)
It just wouldnt happen they could fuck all of them, and have 0 pushback from gov.
Not sure why this is getting complicated. If you paid for a lifetime server, it should be online, connected to the internet, doing it's purpose without having to pay anything extra.
Else, it's breach of contract.
zaphosting is a clown hosting company
