Well, quite some strong language to express an opinion about a technical issue.

Contrary to your understanding I have had issues in the past, that bero resolved pretty quickly via a ticket. This exactly is the reason, that I do not consider your strong advice to move on yet - but thanks for your wise words.

I just don't asses this as a one off ticket thing, even without your consent.

And how do you think things will change magically if you don't give them details to fix this issue?

  • My Berohost VPS is fine. Actually, I get the best scores and values from this VPS, comparing to the other over 30 VMs that I have. This one is the best.

If I'll want better than this, I should buy a dedicated server.

So, this apply to anyone.

Good question: hoped to exchange some thoughts on that here - maybe get some useful insights from other users. Again I don't see how a ticket "hey bero, make my rtt fast" would change this meaningfully - especially if after the next maintenance I end up on some completely different hosts - this is not a failed debian reinstall or I cant copy paste from vnc console thing.

Does someone also has issues with payment system?
    e: ok, seems temporary sometimes.

We made some minor adjustments to the payment system today. However, everything worked in our tests. If you're still experiencing issues, please feel free to submit a ticket through the ticket system.

It is an issue for YOU. so YOU should create a ticket. YOU should explain what you found in YOUR ticket. Everyone has different needs so YOU should write how the server isn't optimised for YOUR standard.

  • It seems they've implemented private networking and firewall management in the control panel, so we won’t need to contact support for these anymore. Great work!

I didn't notice but thank you! It was a bit irritating to create tickets for private networking from time to time.

Edit: private networking failing. I am doing something wrong I guess. Anybody tried?

Mine is working well. Did you do the configuration on the 2nd nic?

yes. I followed the setup guide there. Both VPS (one is ryzen 9950x and other is turin) are in same network too. Have to raise a ticket I guess.

    Hi @barbaros,
yes I get it that most people put everything on a single machine and call it a day. And thats fine for quite some projects. Have been there, know it.

Just asked the other way around - what is particularly wrong with my modus operandi separating DB, failover and API on different machines? This is pretty standard practice and I explained above why I do it. And maybe I am not the only one.
Furthermore what harm does it do if I share my findings here that might bring an overall improvement in internal latency - even if not relevant to every use case.

Some others complain strongly about Geek bench results. To everybody his own needs.

You are just bitching on this thread about your pings from the 1st day you bought those servers. Whatever you are aiming to do isn't doing anything good to provider.

You are shit talking about the provider bcs their ping values are inconsistent inside the DC. When repeatedly berohost asked you to create a fucking ticket so they can check the issue.

I am ordinary customer like many people on LET, so I am not going to defend any provider. But Andreas is good with dealing issues (yeah I created tickets about issues I had with node) and he was really quick to respond.

So overall I am happy with berohost.

Yet you are being a whiny twat, just posting random ping values occasionally, claiming there is an issue, when provider asked you to create a ticket again and again.

Do you see anyone else complaining about same issues that you are having? So perhaps the issue is you and not the provider?

    Did you create the ticket?

Not yet, since it affects all hosts and VMs get reshuffled amongst them periodically (at least some of mine did). So I wanted to find out if there is a general solution for this.

I do not expect to get my own corner of bero via ticket;)

and this just confirms that you are not seeking a solution, but just creating nuisance in the thread.

Create a fucking ticket. Let them investigate it, if you are not happy with their answer or solution, share it with us and just move to another provider.

How thick is your skull to understand this?

Edit: The dude has 38 comments on LET and 37 of them is about Berohost issues, since he bought them on 5th of October.

I could almost hear you shouting through the screen.

There seems to be some general wide spread misconception about what can be achieved in a virtualized environment on a per tenant basis (via ticket) vs. on a per host basis (affecting the hypervisor config of all hosts in a cluster) in terms of networking.

    This is absolutely agreeable!
Fiddling with the hypervisor config affects all clients and hostings. It might be very valid, that a provider does not want to do or even dig into it. The optimisation you are asking for might come with costs on other ends and it might render the whole setup less stable, which also wouldn't be wanted.

In a shared environment you are one amongst many and your request can be valid but rejected for good reasons anyway.
That does not make the provider or performance bad, only not good for your specific use case maybe.

Accept it, move on, potentially look elsewhere, maybe this product isn't for you.

For me nanoseconds are irrelevant, so I'd not want BeroHost spend time (and potentially money) on that for a single clients request. Rather keep the service stable, performant and cheap as it is right now ;-)

What could the performance penalty be?

    @Falzo
Totally valid. This is the reason that I am looking for an open conversation on the matter. If it is a net win for all, well thats fine - if there might be some hidden trade offs, then not so much. But there is no way finding out without talking about it.

edit: btw. it would be great if @berohost could come up with a clear statement about how they think on the subject

  • ddos protection? i will use it on game servers

  • Shoutout to @berohost, I'm a happy customer for 2 years I think now, never had any (real) problems with them and really do appreciate their flexibility and features they offer (eg 3 snapshots ). Polished simple panel, stable services and all of that while practically paying peanuts on promo servers.

Do recommend heavily, I just don't need more resources as of now (actually less but price's too good to give up for another 3-5 years, I guess)

    I think so!

  • I have been using Berohost's servers since the year before last, and I purchased their servers during a promotion. I have found their servers to be very stable, and they have not encountered any major issues since I started using them. Moreover, their server performance is surprisingly good. Although CPU performance does slightly decrease when there are more neighbors, I personally believe that the impact is not significant, and the price is still very cost-effective. Any minor issues I encountered were promptly resolved through submitting a ticket. It is also surprising that they have not increased their prices during this year's promotion, as many businesses have started to raise prices due to memory price issues. Berohost's servers are one of the most stable and cost-effective servers I have used so far. I hope they continue to improve!

  • Ok, so maybe I have to set a couple of things straight and calm things down a bit:

Quite some while ago I bought several servers from Bero - just regular purchase, no deal.
They all ended up being on 9275F (and still are). Tested them - great performance, great connectivity.
Just set up what I needed + WireGuard, Grafana and alerting and thats it. No vlan, no tickets, nothing. Everything worked out of the box. Latencies stayed stable at bespoke <0.2ms. Happy customer ever since.
(Ok, 2 tickets but no big issues, quickly resolved.)

And then came along the deals. I thought to myself: lets get some bigger iron, future proof and save some money along the way. Got the same setup, just one level bigger.
All on 9275F again (not the case anymore), great machines- yes, I yabsed too. Set everything up, tested and inconsistencies came up quickly. Compared to what I already had. Hadn't looked into it for moths prior - just checked Grafana periodically (+ had 1 alert, that I never bothered to resolve properly) in all that time.
Turns out my new problems are latency and to some extent high wait times on nvme. I couldn't care less about cpu scores and steal time was still virtually non existent.
So I turn to the forums and see that in this thread some people are already complaining and that Bero is already at it, restocking, even giving away slices of the bigger servers, reorganizing the net and what not. I shared my findings along the way, things got some times better.

And here we are - on the one hand I am still happy with my old machines and would't want anybody to mess around with them either. On the other hand I am here advocating for the retuning of the entire new cluster - and learned more about the vps business along the way, then I ever felt compelled to. I have the highest respect for @berohost and what they are doing, and feel a bit sorry for not being more patient.
After all they are the final authority on this.

Wish everybody & breo good luck with their projects.

You could have wrapped the whole post up in just one sentence to be honest.

  • Although there has been a performance decline compared to when it was first purchased, the current performance level is still quite good!

    Hi,
Have you had a chance to test or migrate your inter-node communication (like your monitoring and mesh traffic) over to private IPs to see if it helps iron out those lingering latency inconsistencies on the newer cluster?

Hi, yes I tested the new vlan feature on the new machines- latencies are exactly the same for me. It works by injecting vlan tags into your data packets, but still has to traverse the same virtio stack (vhost) on the hosts and depends on the current load and configuration on those.
However what it helps with is isolating from leaking discovery traffic from all the other machines on the network.
It also helps cut through and establish a direct connection if your public IPs happen to be on different subnets.
