How about we clarify. Shall I test this VPS? A bit irked to spend $8.11 on what I suspect will be a poor service, but maybe it is worth it to settle this.
Then state how much can I use 80%, 90% 5%?
Stop thinking as provider for 2 seconds, and think as a person buying your services for the main use of high-bandwidth as that's the real marketing value here. They don't want to be suspended or banned they want to know how much can be used.
Mediocre service? Our customers give us very good reviews; once again, you’re just spouting nonsense without knowing anything or bothering to get informed.
Actually we already had this discussion with Cloudblast. I'd argue that if you somehow have the supernatural physical capabilities to finish off the entire restaurant, it would be fair to do so. Restaruants must price according to what they can sustain.
But this comparison doesn't really work for bandwidth, it is physically impossible for most people to finish off an entire buffet. For a VPS, it is trivial to saturate a 10Gbps pipe - not something impossible for 99.99% of customers to do.
"bothering to get informed" -- perhaps it is impossible to get informed as to what your FUP is?
No, and this is a terrible example.
A single person can use an entire port, a single person can not each that much food one is impossible, one is not.
Reason that model works without lying, as the average person leaves them with healthy profit, your model is the exact same yet you need clarification as the majority are capable not the minority.
Sad part is, no one literally no one cares if you have a fair-usage policy, they prefer unmetered and the flexibility.
Think it's time for a LET "Ignorant" list too.
It’s quite straightforward: we generally allow whatever makes sense, and to date, none of our clients have had their usage throttled.
For basic use—such as a VPN or similar—it should be fine; however, other types of usage, like streaming, might prove more complicated.
What makes sense? It isn't straightforward if you can't define what makes sense. Before a customer pays, I'm sure they'd like to know if what they paid for would be arbitrarily throttled just because an employee of Infrawire decided that by their "quite straightforward" policy, the customer's usage "did not make sense"
In fact, overall, we consistently allow 30% of the VPS's authorized bandwidth (10 Gbps) to pass through.
OK finally a concrete number. So, I can sustain 3Gbps average, at a minimum? Why not just say this clearly?
Exactly, on a 10Gbps plan
But I cannot use the full advertised 10Gbps "unlimited ... unmetered" (as you state on the website) plan? Even though it is advertised as unlimited, and unmetered?
Is the IPv6 allocation a /64 subnet or just a single IPv6 address (/128)?
Hey,
/64
I think it might be better to get a VPS @averagedatahoarder. Alternatively, perhaps @infrawire could provide him with one so he can verify the results firsthand. That way, we can clear up any doubts and settle the discussion fairly.
This is plenty fair no one would argue, just state it or fair usage on the post simple.
As it currently stands, is is false advertisement.
Noted, as we are new in lowendtalk, we need to learn some things.
Thanks you, next posts will be mentionned
I'm getting really unnerved by @averagedatahoarder.
Front-up, Yes, "unlimited" means the absence of any limitation within provider's reach. In theory. So he has a point.
BUT: We do not live in theory, nor do we buy and use VPS in theory! We buy and use in real life and in real life a provider has to calculate the average monthly traffic volume used per user.
This opens door no. 1 in that (usually) modest, read: below said average, bandwidth users de facto open up quite some capacity within the calculated traffic boundary, which is available for more massive users.
And I don't mind that other user "carve out" and use some of "my" traffic volume. And how could I mind anyway as that's simply how the VPS world ticks.
Door no 2 though becomes problematic either for the provider or for (most of) the customers or both. That is the range outside of what the provider calculated and priced.
Let's take @infrawire's "about 3 Gb/s (full blast) is OK":
That translates to about one petaBytes per month! Which opens two major problems, (a) that only 3 out of between 50 and 250 customers on machine, if more or less continuously using "their" 3 Gb/s basically starve all other users on that node, and (b) that customers like averagedatahoarder drive up costs enormously, which of course must be paid by the provider who of course will/has to recover those costs by higher prices.
At the same time infrawire's (and other's) "unlimited" marketing game also is questionable and IMO not smart.
Why not simply playing it honestly and giving clear limits plus optional add-ons like 10 TB, 50TB or whatever prices?
Not only because it's honest and the right way, and to avoid never ending attacks and discussions, but also to simply and effectively get rid of egomaniacal and aggressive abusers like averagedatahoarder.
Hello,
As for explicit limits, there’s no point; we wouldn’t allocate terabytes of bandwidth without monitoring them—that would be foolish and would only set unnecessary restrictions.
As previously mentioned, our clients are currently satisfied with our services and have encountered no issues regarding bandwidth.
You can verify this here: https://hostadvice.com/hosting-company/infrawire-reviews/#user-reviews
That said, this type of reaction is understandable; on LowEndTalk, there have likely been hosting providers in the past who truly messed things up.
All the shit providers link to hostadvice. funni.
"Shit provider"? You might want to watch your language—your opinion doesn't count for anything; we know who we are, haha.
No, I'll call you shit if I want to.
Haters aren't welcome here; you're invited to take your business elsewhere rather than hanging out on this thread
Infrawire LowEndTalk crashout incoming 🍿
Law uuuuuuu @averagedatahoarder,cuz of ur abuses some just cant hold up....
wait waiittt, i law the onion guy more than uu
@infrawire how about - this
No point in arguing with disrespectful people like him, haha—we’ve got better things to do
If you guys sponsor a VPS for a month I'd be more than happy to test your bandwidth claims and provide an unbiased review on your service 😊
If you use up all the bandwidth for free for a month, we’d end up taking a bit of a loss, haha
