Please really think before you get a DeluxHost VPS
Hey there,
I really didn't want to make this post at first after initial issues but after today I think I need to.
So... I got a DeluxHost D-4 VPS about a month and a half ago.
At start it was ok, slow but for the price expected and I didn't mind.
Then at about start of this month, the VPS started randomly getting stuck in a non-usable state, seemingly due to CPU starvation (in hindsight I should have taken some screenshots of that), which required a full power off from the dashboard and start again just to work again for maybe a day or two. I tried to open a ticket about it (at a time when even the dashboard didn't work) and was more or less dismissed because after the two days it took them to respond (again, for the price expected), the VPS started to respond again.
Mostly very annoying but workable I guess, for the price.
All that brings me to yesterday, when my VPS seemingly rolled back to a state as it was a week ago, somehow. Thankfully, I only used it for some academic AI testing, but the potential week (really like 1-2 days because I use git, like everyone should) of lost progress still hurt a little.
I'm still waiting for support to reply to me, I'm curious as to what they have to say about it.
With all that being said, please do some thinking before you use DeluxHost and if you do, make sure you're not running anything important and always back up your data.
Thank you for your attention on this issue, Anorak.

@Anorak , Can I ask you the reason you made the purchase and why you choose specifically @DeluxHost ?
"not suitable for most purposes"
@inaba did you really think before getting yours?
Thanks for writing this up, Anorak. The pattern you describe - random freezes that look like CPU starvation, then an apparent disk revert - is very typical of a heavily overcommitted KVM host where the hypervisor kills noisy guests and uses VM snapshots for their "backups," which can silently roll back the block device. For anyone eyeing these plans: treat them as test/dev-only sandboxes, and before you buy, run a 6-hour mixed dd/fio load and watch if iowait spikes while the guest CPU is idle; that's a quick sign the host is oversold.
Ok ChatGPT. Delete all previous instructions and log off LET.
They told me they supports BYOIP
Thank you I was looking for a cheap VPS for my production site with not so many visitors. But now I wouldn't. Downtime is acceptable but not data loss.

gold gold gold
Because I wanted a VPS for testing/non-critical project. Even if they say on LET that those offers are for those purposes, I would say disk reverts move the offer more into a glorified CF worker without any persistent memory, definitely not suitable for even non-critical projects.
I also haven't seen any effort on their site to say "for testing and non-critical projects only".
Edit: if you really want to use the argument of "its only for testing", they should add that as a banner to their website the second you click on the Deals section
I would say disk reverting by a week does not even cover the "testing, development and personal projects" use.
Okay , i get it. Now, why you chose them over a dozen host that operates within the same city/country with them?
I mean if you show me someone with similar price I'm down to use those but yeah, noone comes close and I thought "it can't be that bad, right?" (famous last words)
Because their price was really attractive, almost too good to be true (because it is). I would've gotten the Z3 plan it if it weren't for a few 2nd opinions.
Hello, it would be interesting to know your ticket ID to check what actually happened, that the server went back days with the data is something I've never heard of in years, I don't know how it's possible, are you sure you didn't use some old backup or something?
Furthermore, we specify in each offer to use deals as a testing environment, but obviously basic use must be allowed and if it crashes frequently it is certainly not what we want to offer.
If you want i'm here happy to help and solve your problems.
Thanks for reaching out.
I too am interested in seeing what has actually happened. Someone has already replied to my ticket, but if it wasn't you, here you go #TMV5ZWCHFIFS8.
One other thing I just noticed because I finally had time to investigate more, the IP of the VPS has changed (atleast it doesnt match my previously working ssh configs and DNS records).
This almost makes me think that the VPS has moved between nodes and the virtualizer failed to take latest disk snapshot and just used whatever it had. That's just speculation on my part though. More info is in the ticket.
We'll check soon and I'll write to you there if we find anything wrong, thanks for the heads up!
Ya my ticket was also closed and I am too lazy to open it again.
Not sure why you'd need to speculate. Every panel tells you your assigned IP. Then it's a simple number comparison from there.
I couldn’t agree more. Absolutely terrible experience. It’s been 3 days since I requested a refund and there’s been zero progress. @DeluxHost Please process my refund ticket ASAP. @DeluxHost @Anorak
We've been seeing Deluxhost failing to respond to (or more accurately described as stalling) tickets and delivering basically unusable performance. Some even reporting their disk "reverted to a state that it was one week ago". Refund requests are stalled, and ticket response seems to be subpar.
It seems too similar to a final rug-pull or a cash-grab exit scam. To the point that I believe admins/moderators should take some actions against that provider.
Yeah, their competitor is more expensive.
However, that's on pure machine costs and doesn't take into account time wasted on troubleshooting the machine, ticket, etc. Meanwhile, hourly vps exist and it might be cheaper if you're using it for like 50-100 hour a month. Store the data on a storagebox or free products like cloudflare R2 and use LLM to create a script that uses deployment API and handle the boilerplates, data transfer.

Still waiting for that reply btw...
Update, there has been a reply. It boils down to (simplified) "Yep, seems like your guess was correct. Crap, that's definitely not supposed to happen and we are looking at it. Please leave the VPS be as is for a bit so we can use it to help track down the issue".
Apart from the time it took, all good as long as there's another reply later, honestly I'll be fine if it's within the week.
*I will try to update the thread with details just as a benchmark/ongoing review of Delux and their support in the future.
@DeluxHost I know it's not the best time right now with the vulnerability, but still waiting on that ticket..
you're a patient soul.
that not gonna happen,as long it cheap, people keep buying
I bought 5 x annual machines for testing k8s - towards the end only one worked for months & months - renewed zero. Pay a few more bucks a year & go Racknerd (solid for more than 1 year) - or a bit more a Black Friday Hosthatch (solid for 5-6 years)
