Small sites and VPN
哇噻,这价格真美丽。我也想买一个,打算用来监控和做 VPN。
great can run some personal based docker containers for self project
I'd use it as a relay node close to mainland China (I'm in Guangdong on China Mobile). Question: how does the return route to CN mobile/telecom look from AS4658, direct via HKIX peers or through one of your transits?
Planned use: an Uptime Kuma probe in Asia to watch my US boxes, plus a small DNS resolver. Do you give a routed IPv6 /64 per VPS?
Would host a small personal blog and keep a WireGuard endpoint for when I'm in HK. Is rDNS for the IPv4 configurable from the panel?
I will use $1/year VPS to host my personal blog.
I'm in, let's hope I get lucky.
This sounds perfect for some small projects and a static website. I'd also love to try your VPN with 20 world destinations.
I’d love to use this VPS as a Hong Kong monitoring node for my open-source VPS management project. I maintain a small fleet of servers across different regions, and a Hong Kong node would be very useful for network latency monitoring, IPv4/IPv6 connectivity checks, and route quality testing.
One question: Does the $1/year VPS include a dedicated public IPv4 address and native IPv6 connectivity?
Thanks for offering this giveaway!
maybe this vps is good for blog deployment
YAB it hour 0, than brag about it on LET how I have a $1/Year VPS every week or whenever I feel like it.
oh nice, a HK box right next to HKIX is exactly what i've been missing. i'm in mainland china so HK is my go-to hop, would run my own wireguard + a little uptime kuma on it. quick q tho: how's the evening route back to china telecom? cn2 or just normal 163?
Will use it to run docker and nginx website hosting
This configuration can run a monitoring service.
It's really good. If you spend money to buy it, it's also good. I think it's good.
Thanks for the generous giveaway! A question about AS4658: how is the peering from these Hong Kong nodes to mainland China ISPs (Telecom/Unicom), and what is the typical latency? If I win, I'd use the VPS as a lightweight uptime-monitoring node and a personal WireGuard VPN relay for my sites in Asia.
China direct bandwidth is too expensive, direct China routing is done for some of our data centre customers, and only when resources allow, some IP blocks of our VPS services. But in general, we maintain very good performance to all of China, except that the RTT more than 100ms.
For VPS cloud services, we accept credit cards, PayPal, and BTC/BCH.
Sorry, currently we only offer HK IP prefixes for VPS services. We may offer UK prefixes later. The Filipino IP probably is our customers.
One of our clusters get hacked! But we recovered the cluster from full backups. The full story is here: https://hosting.netfront.net/announcements/30/Netfront-sharpCVE-2023-54391-Incident-Report-Proxmox-VE-authentication-bypass-22-hosts-in-a-cluster-compromised-and-how-we-restored.html. We have since enforced much higher security and upgraded all software.
the vps could be used for a HK proxy
I will use it to create the next vibecoded hosting panel, then post it here to be hacked and ask why do people pay hosting panel companies when they could have an AI coded panel. Or more likely, idling.
Definitely gonna use for selfhosting
The unlimited VPN across ~20 destinations bundled with a node sitting right next to HKIX is a really practical combination for reaching regional networks from a single box. I would use mine as a lightweight uptime monitor for the few small VPS nodes I keep around, with a low-traffic personal site alongside it. One question about AS4658: with the Broadwell-generation CPU showing in the yabs, are there plans to refresh the host hardware down the line, or is the focus deliberately on network quality over raw compute?
I'll use it as a VPN in HK 5eva.
thanks for the offer, regarding this info " planned use of this perpetual $1/Year VPS in this thread!" I want to use this vps to test my application (an app that I am working on). Cheer.
Hi Netfront - thanks for running this, and welcome to LET!
Three things I didn't see answered yet:
1) Is the $1/Year plan a KVM guest or a container (LXC)? I'd like to run WireGuard and a small Docker container, so I'm curious whether TUN and custom kernels are allowed.
2) The "unlimited VPN to around 20 destinations" - how is that delivered in practice (WireGuard/OpenVPN configs, or a client app)? Is there a concurrent-device limit?
3) Is the 1 TB traffic quota counted one-way or both directions?
Planned use: a small always-on node - a personal WireGuard endpoint plus a lightweight uptime/health-check agent, and maybe a static page. Nothing CPU-heavy, and the HKIX location is genuinely useful from where I am (mainland China).
Good luck with the launch!
Thanks for the awesome giveaway. If I win, I would love to use it to set up a personal VPN/Tailscale relay and host a small personal website.
Count me in! I'd use this as a tiny HK relay box — my current VPS are all in EU/US, so having something in Asia with decent latency would be really handy for testing. Quick question: is there a looking glass or test IP I can try? Thanks for running this giveaway!
