  • What function justifies that spend?

    Why not a docker of Firefox. Extension to map uptime

    Is this more about content filtering and reporting?

    I don’t qualify myself competent to evaluate this… idle curiosity

    I don't know if I saw that email, but I have been using UptimeRobot for years.

    I've always felt it's "okay." I wanted to use a monitoring service that accepted Monero, but didn't find one. I don't mind paying $10/year for monitoring, but $8/month or $13/month seems steep for the amount I use it.

    I looked up alternatives on this forum and saw HetrixTools recommended. Signed up there and have been very impressed. They offer way more in the free version than UptimeRobot does. I would like to pay for it, and maybe I should just bite the bullet, but it's also a case where I'd happily pay $10/year but $10/month seems excessive.

    I've thought for a while about building my own monitoring platform and charging for it, but never have. I did write a Perl script, which I thought I shared somewhere.

    https://status.slowservers.net/

    It doesn't alert me, but it runs a lot of unusual checks, like Gemini fingerprints and SOA validation of DNS slaves.

    I actually used to work at ThousandEyes, which had a very impressive network aspect to it. Sadly, it was always outrageously expensive. And ten years later, it looks like they've done nothing to improve it -- looked untouched from back when I was working there. Now to be fair, they had an incredible set of agents (IIRC, like 1,000) in all kinds of remote places, but still it's something that can be fairly cheap to run between many customers. I think they eventually sold to Cisco for $1B.

    Sorry, Another question - is there an arm docker image? I tried to build one locally but it took forever and just froze for some reason. I saw in docs that there is but I was not able to pull it.

    yes, pin a release tag, latest is amd64 only. cut 1.4.0 for you:
    docker pull ghcr.io/uptimepage/uptimepage:1.4.0

    local build froze because of fat lto, eats ram at link. not worth it

    Building Rust on a VPS is a bad idea. Managed to build it on a dedi in around 30 mins, the tarball is just 47MB, let me know if you want me to share it. Our messages crossed :smiley:

    hey i tried uptimepage and really liked it.
    is there any feature to duplicate/clone a monitor just by clicking a button.
    i have to create http/get monitor having similar settings just different urls. hetrix has this feature.
    but here i had to re-create each monitor manually. i couldn't find a setting to clone it (if its there pls point me to it). thanks.

    i knew it was a vps :D no need to share, 1.4.0 has arm now, switch to it so updates are just a tag bump

    glad you like it. noted, will add. meanwhile terraform (uptimepage.dev/docs/terraform) does it in one go:

    resource "uptimepage_target" "site" {
      for_each = toset(["https://a.com", "https://b.com", "https://c.com"])
      name     = each.value
      interval = 60
      check = {
        type = "http"
        http = {
          url             = each.value
          expected_status = { kind = "exact", exact = 200 }
        }
      }
    }

  • I’m trying out Uptimepage and, so far, I think it’s brilliant.

    Just two things:

    1. I can’t get the DNS monitors to work when the record contains, for example, the character ‘_’ (_dmarc.example.com):

    “INVALID_DNS_PARAMS: host ‘_dmarc.example.com’ is not a valid IDN domain (field: check.domain)”

    1. I haven’t managed to get my passkey to work either (Windows 11 + Firefox + Bitwarden addon).

    If I may make a request, I have just one: that the DNS monitors form a group and trigger a ‘fail’ if any of them are modified. Either all of them or none at all. For example, dnscheck.co calls this ‘Exclusive’ (https://www.dnscheck.co/exclusive-dns-record-matching).

    Thanks, great job!!

    Can you monitor simple domain like example.com? I only get latency for some reason, same for TLS cert.

    all three shipped. _dmarc and other underscore names work, passkeys save in bitwarden, and dns checks have an exact set mode: list every record, any added, removed or changed one fails the check

    Missing a traceroute/mtr and ping for debugging network problems. Hetrixtools has this per monitoring location, when a alert is triggerd.

    Got email from Uptime-Robot that the $8/mo plan went to $13/mo (that is $96 to $156 a year). The reason cited was they build a MCP server and rebuilt dashboard and apps. But hey, AI can vibe-code it for you. Why bill clients by making plans sooo expensive like ~62% price hike.

    I can accept a plan going from $8 to $10 if there are major new features introduced. but having nothing useful to pay for such increase make me think to move on from them to better and more afforable competitors.

    Also, their email ended with: "You don't need to do anything. The new price applies at your renewal automatically."

    wow... all i have to do now is "cancellation on renewal"

    betterstack is the way, my guy

  • @slima4, sorry for coming back with my shit.

    Wildcards does not work:

    About DNS alerts, is it possible to create a group of checks (all domain records, e.g.) so that the entire group fails if any of the records fail? It's convenient for checking whether any details have changed in that domain's records.

    Thanks mate!!

    Ah that also seems to have solved my problem with passkeys not saving to YubiKeys, was finding the e-mail OTP method mildly annoying.

  • @slima4 question - for some reason, when I add dns monitor or tls, I only see latency charts and nothing else. Am I supposed to see tls expiry dates and actual dns records for those types of monitoring?

  • The part that stings most is the automatic price bump at renewal with no new features attached. For simple uptime checks, self-hosted Uptime Kuma on a cheap yearly VPS seems like the most popular exit route in this thread — has anyone who made that switch actually missed the paid tiers?

  • The part that bothers me most isn't the increase itself, it's the automatic bump at renewal with no new features attached — $96 to $156 a year is a big jump to swallow silently. Before paying it, I'd audit how many monitors actually need 30-second checks versus 5-minute ones; in my experience most personal projects are fine on the slower interval. If you only have a handful of critical endpoints, the free tier plus a cheap alternative like HetrixTools covers them well, and BetterStack is worth a look if you want nicer status pages. Paying the higher price only makes sense if you're genuinely using the faster checks and alert integrations across a lot of monitors.
