I think the whole point of using paypal is safety to get money back if provider cheats. But when user is already loyal, it does not matter as user is already confident about provider....

user can never be confident about provider unless he's an idiot. things happen every day that may change the tone and reality of a business relationship.

anyway i was just taking a cheap shot, didn't intend it to be a conversation but your response seemed very innocent.

PayPal can protect you for only 6 months, right?
However, all the deals you see with a 3-year plan + PayPal payment are still risky if the provider isn't trustworthy.

A provider with ill intent isn't a fool. They will rotate PayPal accounts and use all the money before showing their true colors. I have seen many hosts go down, scamming users' money, and all of them had PayPal as well. Check the last 10 hosts who scammed people here in LET. Didn't most of them had PayPal?

Users aren't fools. They already know everything. They take the risk intentionally, knowing everything, and complain later when things go sideways.

Wouldn't it be easier to just have a "reseller" tag rather than straight-up rejecting them?

This is just providing the client with incorrect/incomplete information. Because who is a provider? Does it need to own all the equipment? Does it need to have its own data center? Does it need to be an upstream provider? Furthermore, many providers use a combined business model - for example, they may own the equipment for VPS but resell dedicated servers.

No, because the success of a business does not depend on how many employees work for the company.

It depends. What if 1-man operation stops due to owner death? 2 owbers can cover each other.

Isn't owning ASN is easier than creating a legally registered company?

Usually you need a legally registered company to get an ASN unless you want to have the ASN in your personal name.

Also, both are just money things. Almost anyone can register a company and ASN, they just need the registration money.

Oh, but I don’t think he said anything about having your own ASN issued through an LIR or directly by an RIR. in that case yes they do ask for documents.

ARIN usually just needs proof that your company is real

Usually the documents they ask for are nothing more than proving your business is real, and that your authorized to sign on behalf of it.

Only difference between using an LIR and using an RIR directly is cost.

Yes, I know that. What I meant is that there are other ways to get an ASN, like buying from someone else, so that still has the same problem.

Even having an own ASN requires just a registered business, etc., which doesn't prove that the business will be trustworthy in the coming years. A lot of businesses are registered and declared scams after few years.

It's a good point but it's one more reason out of the 50 reasons to maintain your own backups if you have any data that's actually important, right? Personally I don't plan on dying anytime soon as I'm only 32, and am a healthy adult with a lifestyle that doesn't depend on dangerous things or drugs/alcohol.

There's also people that would probably like that multiple people don't have access to their data. It's the second reason why I haven't hired anyone (besides the fact that I simply don't need to), even with safeguards in place, it's another person that has access to client data. Unless you employ people you know in person, in real life, there's always a risk for something malicious (intentionally or not) even if tiny.

Life is out to get you no matter what. You can be 26, get ready to bring your kid to school and just drop dead cause of an aneurysm

This is not uncommon, and the owner always has several options for solving such a problem. Anyone can die, and age has nothing to do with it, but a responsible person should have a solution in case of such a sad situation.

Well, you can be shot down in school or parking lot. Anytime. The main point - 1-man operations does not have proper failover. Especially when no one knows business logic except the owner. Then there is whole backend mess with llm vomit all over the place.

There is 0 chance that you have documented all your operation from A to Z so that new your widow wife boyfriend could take operation.
