Our network is more developed in Kansas. That's really the main reason. Our presence in Los Angeles is a lot smaller and cross connections cost significantly more in our LA PoP, plus we don't have the scale there to justify the huge network ports (e.g., 100G) that would lower costs for our customers.
It's difficult to find cheap upstreams that also will be stable. It's really only possible if we had the scale to justify purchasing high bandwidth ports directly from T1s.
Fixed! Thanks for reporting.
We don't offer unmetered bandwidth for VPS. If you mean for dedicated servers, then you can open a ticket and we can discuss.
We don't offer fake "unmetered" ports anymore. If you purchase unmetered from us, then it means it is truly unlimited. This can range from $50 (1 Gbps in Kansas) to $5000 (10 Gbps in Johor).
CDN77 pricing is higher than traditional transit providers due to the quality and DDoS mitigation, but it's not that high. We wouldn't have done that rate if we were to lose money on it.
You can certainly get cheap transit in Los Angeles if you had the scale to justify it. It's just that the major datacenters there suck and the cross connection pricing is absurd.
NOCIX also has the benefit of themselves being able to offer really affordable transit, presumably because it can be subsidized by their other services, so you can get started on cheap and reliable transit without needing high ports (which is why we've always been able to offer high bandwidth there, even when we were starting).
Still times out for me.
Could it be a firewall issue? It might be blocking Tor.
It's hetrixtools so you'll want to take it up with them.
@HBAndrei
Your upstream transit blend in Miami recently switched from CDN77 to Cogent + Voxility. Since the change, the uptime has gone from being absolute rock-solid to just generally stable. If this decision was made for cost optimization, it's completely understandable. Given how hardware and colocation costs have skyrocketed lately, the fact that you haven’t raised your prices is highly commendable.
However, there is a minor routing inefficiency regarding your BGP routing policy. For Hurricane Electric prefixes, traffic occasionally prefers Cogent over Voxility. Due to peering dispute between Cogent and HE, they have absolutely zero IPv6 connectivity between them, and their IPv4 traffic relies on transiting through Arelion. As a result, reaching a single-homed HE network in Miami sometimes detours through Ashburn, with added 25ms latency. For single-homed HE IPv6, the traffic is simply unroutable.
It's just a minor inconvenience, not a big deal. But it would be great if you could somehow tweak the routing policy (e.g. higher LocalPref for HE prefixes via Voxility etc.) to fix this.
Could you open a ticket about this? We can take a look. We are aware of some instability over the past few months (largely caused by DDoS) and are in the process of onboarding new upstreams to help. Voxility was not as stable as we had hoped.
It's not just the CDN77 switch, but Miami has also grown significantly as a location after essentially not being touched for over a year.
Really appreciate your professionalism and proactive approach to solve the issue! Since it could be directly reproduced using your Looking Glass, so I don't want to submit another ticket to increase your workload.
@yoursunny is gonna hate this btw
It somewhat I cant see tebex payment anymore, is it aleardy gone?
Click on Legacy and then click on any of the payment options, it wil let you pay through Tebex.
It's possible that Hetrix blocks Tor unfortunately. We do want to build a replacement in the future but I wouldn't have an ETA for that.
Guessing the promo ended? Don't see an option to enter a promo code at checkout.
Yes, it has already ended and we don't have any more active promotions. Sorry for the confusion.
