VSYS Ukraine down?

  • @vsys_host Is there any news at last? Or do we have to wait for the new year? Or have you still not found a location? And regarding what you wrote about support still being available—where is the support when a ticket goes unanswered for days?

A friend told me normally the dedicated server will come in 1-2 week ( he said vsys told this ). Don’t know if it’s true.. Any one have information or answer by VSYS ?

  • It's funny watching some people here freak out. It just proves that none of you had any backup solution in place, let alone remote backups in other countries or proper off-site backups.

That's called a disaster recovery plan. Remember OVH, when an entire data center burned down? Ukraine is a war zone, so why didn't you set up anything decent?

With off-site backups, your projects would have been back online at another location within a few hours.

Yeah bro, that's possible, but Angela Merkel could have said that too. No offense, but we need confirmation from VSYS, which hasn't written a single text in days.

That is exactly what many people don't want to understand. So, even if the missile hadn't hit—and the data center had burned down for some other reason—we would still be in the same situation. I’m sorry to be so blunt, but there are people complaining about their €300 servers and others about €7,000 servers—plus all the work involved.

    Good day for all,
We have completed the relocation of our equipment. Customer VPS data has not been affected.
The servers are now operating successfully at the new location, and the services are available.

Many people don't even know what dedicated servers are; many have over 100 TB of storage set up and talk as if they could just switch to another provider. Regarding Vsys: the fact that there has been only one update in a week is an absolute outrage—leaving customers in the lurch like this. Option A: They claim the servers were exposed to water (it feels like the servers were destroyed and are no longer usable), but they won't admit it—or rather, they are spreading chaos among customers. Option B: All other hosting providers were attacked too, but they reacted quickly and regained customer trust, whereas Vsys is handling the situation very poorly; tickets aren't being answered, and the chat isn't working at all. We just want information.

Yes, and this is exactly what some people do not understand.

They are holding more than 80 TB of our data, and I did not even ask them to restore or recover it. I only asked to be moved to another data center. It does not even have to be the exact same server specifications. The priority is simply to get our services running again so we can reassure our customers. After that, we can focus properly on fixing, adjusting, and optimizing everything.

There is also another important point: they have not been replying to tickets for two days or more. In my case, the last reply I received was on the 26th of this month.

What we need is simply some clarification so we know where we currently stand.

I have more than 40 servers with them, so moving everything and getting operations running again during such a critical period is not something simple.

We understood their situation and remained patient with them, but they have not even taken the time to reply to us.

All we are asking is for them to tell us what their plan is and how far they have progressed with it.

For example, as of today, an entire week has passed since the problem started, but they still have not clarified whether they have found another location for the data center, whether they have tested the servers, whether they have started installing them, or what stage they are currently at.

We simply want to know what stage they have reached and approximately how much time is still needed.

We need information about Vsys, not some other provider. It’s really about why we aren't getting updates anymore; I don't think anyone cares about VPSs at this point—it's all about the dedicated servers.

    Latest update from support:

Facility 1 (water-exposed): Hardware has been retrieved and is being relocated for technical assessment.

Facility 2 (surviving hardware): Equipment survived, but they are still working to find a secure alternative facility to redeploy them.

Estimated timeline for infrastructure readiness is around a month.

this update have more than 4 days.

  • And yes some are right. This will be the end from VSYS probably.
Most of the loyal customers will move.

All we need is for them to reply to us and clearly explain what stage they have reached and exactly what steps are still remaining.

We also need to know whether we should wait for them, whether it will take one week or two weeks, or whether we should start looking for another provider until their situation becomes stable again.

The most important thing is honesty and transparency, so we can know what decision to make.

Because situations like this can determine whether a business succeeds and rises to the top, or goes into free fall.

  • @psyco23 What do you except from hosting provider which offers DMCA ignored hosting? lol

    All of them are shady

  • Instead of releasing a new update, vsys has added a new list of rows to the panel displaying information about the servers; it isn't an actual update yet—we need one.

Ah, okay, so you're one of those people who doesn't have any servers and doesn't have to deal with the pain. That makes it very easy to say. Or are you the press spokesperson?

No, I'm just very understanding. You however, enjoy being a whiney little bitch. Spamming comments makes no difference whatsoever.

You not having backups is PEBKAC.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your message.

Once we have secured a new facility, we do not plan to offer new servers in Ukraine to the general public. However, for our existing customers, including you, we are working to make it possible both to continue using your current servers and to order new ones there.

Based on our current assessment, we expect servers in Ukraine to become available in around one month, once the question of the new facility has been resolved.

At that point, you will be able to copy your data.

We have noted your request, and we will contact you as soon as we have a confirmed date.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Starlink Dedicated Service
Starlink Dedicated Service for Enterprise is designed for high-throughput enterprise installations. Starlink says it provides unlimited data with its highest traffic-priority tier, and sites have to be qualified and approved by Starlink Sales. Starlink
One configuration is 6+ bonded Performance terminals, providing approximately:

    • 2.4 Gbps download
    • 600 Mbps upload
    • Multiple Starlinks bonded together
    • Unlimited data
    • Enterprise/highest-tier prioritization

This would be cool to open in a remote area of ukraine russia does not give a shit about.

             STARLINK CONSTELLATION

       ┌─────────────┼─────────────┐

    │
    400G CORE PAIR

    Rack 1 Rack 2 ... Rack N
    │ │ │

    Servers Servers Servers

People tried that, putting up multiple starlinks, it doesn't scale like that.

Why wouldn't it scale if you used MPTCP?

Why would it scale? You're using the same shared medium to the same other endpoint. It's like saying if I connect 100 phones to my computer, bond them on the computer, and connect them all to the same wifi router, I can get 100 times the wifi speed.

The satellite has whatever bandwidth it has. I assume this Starlink Enterprise thing connects you to all visible satellites and bonds those connections, but there's still just a finite number of those, and they need to approve your site location to know that two people aren't doing it at the same time in the same area.

Finding a new location shouldn't be that difficult, right? Unless VSYS has dozens of racks that need to be relocated.

It's been several days with basically no status update

But they do have dozens of rack.

And we are talking about a very large fleet.

Finding a new home for it requires much more than free rack space. The facility needs enough:

    physical space
    power capacity
    cooling
    network connectivity
    operational staff and resources

On top of that, after losing two facilities in one day, we have one more requirement: the new location must not carry an unacceptable risk of a missile strike. We will not move a large volume of customer infrastructure to the first facility that happens to have space.

Considering Russia has actively been targeting tele & datacom centers the past two weeks, the new DC should ideally either be underground or in a mountain. Relocating to a new location that has a risk of becoming a target is just stupid. This time they were lucky, most hardware survived. That might not happen next time if they just move to the first DC they find.

  • @tangying said:

A dozen racks is about 200 servers. Do you think vsys has 200s of servers?

Someone complained about VPSes getting restored sooner. Well duh, VPSes can fit hundreds or thousands to a rack and can be migrated to different servers. Moving an actual server is much harder.

  • Even after Iran's attack on AWS data centers in the Middle East, did anyone really think it wouldn't happen in Ukraine?

Anyway, always back up your data.

  • I’ve finally found a place to discuss VSYS. I have two dedicated servers there; on the 26th, they announced they would develop a way for users to copy their data before full restoration. Today, the user portal was updated to list the affected servers and stated that users could simply submit a support ticket to copy their data. However, after I submitted a ticket, their response was the same script from the 26th: "Our engineers are working on a way to let customers copy data from their dedicated servers before full restoration, and we will contact you as soon as it is possible." I’d like to know—has anyone actually managed to get their dedicated servers restored or successfully copied their data out? Thanks, everyone.

Maybe I overestimate the bandwidth a single satellite has.
