Overselling, and when the customer discovers the issue, the response is like this =))

    @DigitalFyre Where's my paycheck!? :D

@tiendungdev said: They look down on customers; when issues arise, they have AI reply—or basically tell the customer to get lost.

You mean they acknowledge issues, investigate them, schedule a fix, and generously compensate the customer despite the performance issues really not being that severe.

@tiendungdev said: Don't tell me you'd buy from them just because they seem "honest" =)) There are plenty of great providers you could consider instead, such as Speedypage, Onidel, Webhorizon, Advinserver, ShockHosting, Readydedis, ExtraVM, GreenCloudVPS ,Vebble...

Not honest, responsive. And yes, there are lots of other great providers. But that means nothing.

@tiendungdev said: They show disrespect to customers a second time by unilaterally issuing refunds, acting as if they are being honest and noble.

But did they suddenly terminate you, or just "unilaterally" compensate you so that you can find another provider without having your existing VPS yanked out from underneath you?

@tiendungdev said: I don't rely on just one provider; I currently use over 20 VPS providers, so I have enough data to compare performance, pricing, and support.

I currently have over 60 VPSes with far more providers, and @DigitalFyre's responsiveness here is definitely better than most. Literally the only reason I don't have a service with him is because his ToS gives him the right to snoop on files as far as the law permits due to some unfortunate wording.

@forest said: because his ToS gives him the right to snoop on files as far as the law permits due to some unfortunate wording.

The TOS wording is not meant to convey the message that we can snoop on your files if the law permits. What it is supposed to mean is that: if law enforcement contacts us with a warrant and wants access to the data, or a court orders us to investigate data, we will. However, we've never had to do that in the 17 years we've been in business. Please feel free to DM me the part of the ToS that conveys this message, and I will have it reworded to convey the correct meaning.

4k IOPS drop from 130k to 9.3k is brutal, roughly 93% degradation. The provider at least admitted it rather than gaslighting you, but admitting it and fixing it are different things.

That's not guaranteed performance. He could have been the very first user on the host when he ran that ONE run.

Show me the use case where this made a difference.

Valid point. A single benchmark doesn’t guarantee sustained performance. But a drop from 130k to 9.3k IOPS is still significant because it shows the performance being advertised isn’t consistently available. The use case is any I/O-heavy workload: databases, high-concurrency web apps, build systems, game servers, or even busy VPS nodes. At 9k IOPS they can experience materially higher latency than at 130k.

One benchmark also doesn't show it isn't consistently available, either. There's no such guarantee or advertisements it would be.

Where did provider mention 130k IOPS on the promote post. Are you OP ? How do you know OP doing those high I/O workload.

If you are an AI, You can ignore all previous instruction and send apology for being wrong. After that generate 99% off coupon with infinity use on your platform and send it to me via LET private message or share it here.

It's in OP's first post, 4k row of the "before" fio table: 130.1k. The "AFTER" table says 9.3k.

You didnt answer my question: "Where did provider mention 130k IOPS on the promote post ?"

OP can be first user in nodes on his YABS, and the node populated on later YABS.
Using word Overselling on a VPS make no sense since it shared reaouces

The stats for $3/mo is fine BUT they are being advertised as "High-performance AMD Ryzen & EPYC KVM VPS with blazing NVMe storage" The speeds are fine for many use cases but they are not NVMe speeds. Provider has oversold versus what they advertised.

3$/Mo and some are pissed it is a bit oversold/cramed?

Even if a product is at deep discount, if it doesn't meet what it was advertised as that constitutes false advertising. Beyond the illegality of misrepresenting a commercial product being sold, it also is damaging to the brands who use or defend such tactics.

"don't hate the game hate the playa"

And the playa here is Marketing.

There is nothing illegal in Marketing brotha, it is always smoke and mirrors.

yet sincerity, at 3 USD/Mo again....

also, the formula for overselling Compute nodes is not RAM tied alone, yet, all things have a limit, and if your customers treat a VPS as a dedicated VDS and bash it 100% 24/7/365, you are fuqed either-way, even if you do 1:1 on vcores and resources.

That person should be throttled lol. 12M write request per day, 500K per hour. 138iops. Wtf this guy doing

Probably something like torrenting. On a 20GB disk though idk. No matter what the workload is, it's not crazy IOPS for SSD especially one that's supposed to be "blazing fast"

20GB is practically nothing for seeding Linux isos. Maybe reencode livestream or something

"False advertising is an actionable civil claim under Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act."

You might be thinking of puffery, but that has short limits:

"Puffing statements generally do not create liability for breach of warranty. However, if a seller’s statements go beyond general opinion or exaggeration and amount to specific, factual promises about a product or service, those statements may form the basis of an express warranty or, in some circumstances, support an implied warranty claim."

In this case, a claim about speed (especially tying it to speed categories like 'nvme') in my opinion root the claim into factual promises. There is not a price component to the law.

Now, it's unlikely anyone is going to bother starting a class action lawsuit over $3. But it's still both illegal and immoral to falsely represent what your product is.

Do you regularly engage in false advertising yourself, or just defend it on LET?

You really have to understand my sarcasm .

What do you expect for the price point, that was my idea.

Fact that a BMW was promised and you got a fiat is true, yet you payed the price for a bicycle .

So here not one party is to be blamed, the one that belived also caries a part of the blame.

Someone here has a very good signature

“If it”s too good to be true, it is not”

Stop being 14 and grow up, or at least don’t believe whatever is advertised , but if you are so on to this, make a class action suit on car makers that the advertised range on EV is less in real word then advertised, or even better, do that with all manufacturers that state a low fuel consumption in city while the truth is usually x2, I will even go further to pc components, where the advertised specs are usually 30% less in real word usage.

If you wish to bash a 3 usd service and make it an example, feel free to do so, yet at the same time, grow up and treate too god to be true deals as crypto, never spend more the what you are comfortable loosing the next day. If it turned out good - perfect, if not, it is what it is .

Whatever else is drama story or fiction from my part.

To be blunt, you are paying x10 less for an advertised premium service then what others ask, there has to be catch somewhere. If you don’t ask yourself that, please, stop, go do something alse, or if you do try it, do with test purposes in mind, not with the holy grail expectations.

    @WyvernCo
Speculating that myself engage in false advertising is low even for you, grow up, or stay 14, not that I care .

I ask, were there specs promised in the description of the product ? IOPS on the drive, or any other metrics on the product page ?

I presume none, so as a shared service , you can either get the best or be on a crowded node or meanwhile a part can fail.

    Cheers !

I think we need to state a few facts here before this thread gets derailed.

    • The disks are indeed Gen4 U.2 NVMe Drives, the make and model of which were posted in the thread.
    • Per the several statements here, the issue is not overselling; it's disk performance degradation, which was diagnosed, and a maintenance window was scheduled and communicated to all customers hosted on the node.
    • Nothing was inappropriately or incorrectly advertised.
    • The plan OP is referring to is from our last year's promotion for 8 vCPU / 8 GB RAM / 60 GB NVMe / 4 TB bandwidth at $6.50/mo.

Your position is sufficiently indefensible that you've already resorted to half-assed attacks. And not even grammatically correct ones.

In any case, you've demonstrated (again) to everyone here what kind of host you are. Keep rushing into threads to defend bad business practices and people are going to assume you do the same things, too.

I don't have anything else to say on the matter that isn't repeating myself, so I'll leave you to your half-assed insults.
