    Ya, Rescel has been down since this morning. I have a few other nodes though which are all fine. Rescel has actually had very performance for the past several days.

    Storage performance — put right
    One of our storage servers had been running slower than it should — its disks were saturated because we had placed too many accounts on that one machine. That was our provisioning, not anyone's workload.

    The root cause is corrected, the maintenance is done, and the server's disk performance is back to healthy levels — I have checked it directly. If your seedbox lives there, it should feel normal again.

    First the origin, then the cure. Steadfast.

    /dev/random is slow source, use /dev/zero.
    random requires CPU to generate ... well random numbers :)

    That machine has enough CPU (4+ Gbit/s to other nodes); I didn't want compression to be a factor. Speeds improved aproximately 4x when I tested a few hours ago - I blame the Americans for using their products like they own the place ;D

    with only about 27 years of experience i can say that /dev/random is not the right source for I/O speed tests. But what do i know 🤷

    I just hope pulsedmedia does smth about it, losing connection is causing problems to me as I'm connected 24x7 to it.

    I will keep this one short, I got a Sampo Trophy from the recent drop and in my excitement I typed a bad rysnc command that overwrote my home directory on the new user account. I submitted a ticket and requested they restore the default account state, within 2 hours the support AI had the default (php) files back, however the files were owned by root so nginx/lighttpd couldn't access or read them, leading to 403 errors on http dashboard. In the mean time I had ssh access still. It took a couple extra days, but the bot got the files fixed and I could access the webui dashboard.
