Bad experience: Rabisu

JunjieYeJunjieYe Member

I recently purchased a Turkey VPS from Rabisu based on multiple reviews stating they provide clean, native Turkish IPs (specifically in the 185.255.. and 185.93.. ranges). However, upon activation, I was assigned a 46.229.. IP. This is a German broadcast IP with a complete mess of a geolocation—it shows up as Germany in some databases and Turkey in others. To make matters worse, the IP has a high fraud score.
I opened a support ticket requesting an IP change. The customer service initially told me the issue was escalated to the relevant department. After waiting a business day without a single reply, the ticket was simply parked with an "İşleme Alındı" status.
So I pushed back and submitted another request, support finally replied but told me I would have to pay a $3 fee to change the IP.
This is completely unacceptable. It’s clear that while some lucky buyers get a clean native Turkish IP right out of the box, Rabisu mixes in dirty broadcast IPs and then demands extra money from customers who want to fix the issue.

    What is a "broadcast IP"?

Do you have a screenshot where they said you'll get an IP in one of those ranges?

I don't see anything from Rabisu in that thread.

I don't see anything from Rabisu in that thread.

These are Nodequality test results posted by other buyers. In short, Rabisu offers native Turkish IPs but also mixes in some broadcast IPs—and unfortunately, I happened to get assigned a broadcast IP.

    Well, unfortunately, it is.

If you wanted an IP from a specific range the provider has, you should've mentioned that before placing an order.

Also, as far as I know, not all providers will necessarily entertain/accommodate such requests, but it's certainly something that should've been discussed before ordering rather than assuming you'd be assigned an IP from whatever range you had in mind.

But the biggest issue is that I purchased a Turkish VPS, yet my IP shows up as German in the ipinfo database. It’s a broadcast IP, they gave me a really suboptimal IP.

have they repurposed this term accidentally due to translation software or something? i've seen it used here before also from a non-english chap iirc.

It is virtually impossible for an individual to correct the location data associated with an IPv4 address in a database. The term "broadcast IP" implies a discrepancy between the registered location and the actual physical location of the data center; even if the database entry were modified, the fundamental nature of the IP as a "broadcast IP" would remain unchanged. Consequently, this is disappointing for someone like me who specifically requires a native Turkish IP address.

  • Your IP is geolocated to Turkey in most GeoIP databases, Maxmind is the one that is most
important as it's the most widely used one. Look here:
    https://check-host.net/ip-info?host=46.229.250.1

not to muddy the water but i was amused to see that ipinfo tags it germany. i would have expected them to be more accurate than your standard geoip db.

The server is located in Turkey. It's not uncommon for GeoIP services to not be 100% accurate. You were sold a VPS in Turkey and that is what you got, you were not promised a "clean native Turkish IP".

It's not "virtually impossible" to correct the location, fill out the form instead of being difficult.

They are more accurate most of the time, it'll probably be corrected during their next ping sweep if nobody sends a correction.

With this kind of whois info, we can "forgive" them for the incorrect location:

I've been called out by the pedantic police for less than that recently.
