Trustname.com aka "Fewmoretaps OU" de-accredited by ICANN few hours ago!
Trustname.com operated as so-called "bulletproof registrar" and used by most phishing sites is finally de-accredited by ICANN. It had around 4K .com domains under management. Fewmoretaps OU - the Estonian company behind trustname.com is now stripped off its accredition after it failed to address dns abuse reports.
I hope not mnay LET users registered their valuable domains with Trustname. If anyone has domain there better transfer-out quickly to any accredited registrar.

Oh damn, that's wild. @trustname check this out.
Actual decision letter: https://www.icann.org/uploads/compliance_notice/attachment/1367/hedlund-to-nestsiarovich-27aug26.pdf
Icann served them 1st breach notice in june. I guess they still keep accomodating phisher since then. Fuck around and found out is appropriate here.
Nicenic when?
Nicenic is actually complying with ICANN's notices. They've really cracked down on phishing.
Wow I trust them more than before now.
whom nicenic or trustname?
i don't understand, their name is literally trust!
Lost's of shady website's domain are registered there mainly phishing and malware distributing sites. If you see their trustpilot review you will understand. If you get complains and don't take action eventually those criminals are gonna take you down with them.
I just use Cloudflare, they aren't going anywhere.
EDIT: I should add that, on the free plan, you can't use non-Cloudflare nameservers. This was never a requirement for me.
Interesting update on the situation. It seems like the registrar is now stealing domains and transferring them away.

I forgot the procedure but aren't the domains they hold force migrated to somewhere else by icann?
But I guess everything is possible. Who knows.
Except what is described in the reviews does not at all sound like that.
2FA gets enabled on their accounts, domains pushed to another Trustname account, domains get transferred out. That's definitely not the official procedure lol
Yeah, it seems very fishy. But it's the internet and I don't trust anything without some proper evidence. Although I would tend to absolutely believe the statements.
Correct. For larger meltdowns they'll tender to all registrar's and see whos willing to take it on. Since Trustname was a few thousand domains it likely wasn't worth the effort and they just yolo'd it to one of the biggies.
Can't say ICANN didn't try to resolve it with them. They literally called their contacts and no one answered (disconnected, no voice mail).
Good luck to all the domain owners.

Closer to 20k domains total.
On ICANN though? Somewhere said 4000, some places said 15,000, but that likely included some ccTLD's.
Anyway, besides the point, there was no public tender for this. Its likely they reached out to Dyn and 'hey you want to take care of this?' and that was that.
Francisco
Yes, I checked with WHOIS data.
If this was ICANN how do you explain:
1. Users getting locked out of their accounts, the domains first getting transferred internally to another Trustname account before then getting transferred out.
2. Not all Trustname domains were transferred out.
3. No announcement whatsoever from ICANN that a gaining registrar has been selected (which is their policy, and additionally they should be listed here: https://www.icann.org/en/contracted-parties/accredited-registrars/resources/bulk-transfers)
4. The holders seemingly weren't informed so they're freaking out on Trustpilot instead.
I don't think this was ICANN's doing.
How do you figure? Did you read the complaint...?
This wasn't some outside force going after TrustName. This was them not cleaning up after their customers. Please, read the complaint and you can see that they had these complaints open since April and they didn't resolve them.
They should've closed registration if they were too busy with that side of the business just to focus on resolving this. Now, they're hooped and its unlikely they will get accredited again, or any owners allowed to buy into another registry.
Francisco
I'm well aware that ICANN went after Trustname, I am well aware that they were de-accredited. Yes, they will do a bulk transfer to another registrar once they've selected a gaining registrar, I'm not saying they won't, I'm saying nothing points to them having selected one yet.
I'm saying I don't think these particular events described in my comments and the Trustpilot reviews were ICANN (for the reasons I already mentioned; did you read?).
They never had any real intention of resolving it, being "bulletproof" was their business.
Whole lotta time & money spent getting accredited, and now its toast.
Very fair, but given how short the notice is (< 2 weeks) I wonder if this is a 'protect the users, post things after the fact' sorta situation.
Who knows, maybe it really is the owners moving the domains and maybe pivoting to become something akin to Njalla?
Good luck on recovering your domain!
Francisco
When you get accreditation, you mention another registrar you want the domains to be transfered to, in case you lose accreditation. So most probably they have defined where domains will be transferred during their application process.
and what if that another registrar is no more in business afterwards!
last time my domains with Net4 (net4india) were also got stucked when net4 went out of business. they took money from registrants and failed to renew/register with registrar as they were going bankrupt! it was a hard time. then ICANN ordered and trasnferred out to PDR.
Since they only lost icann accreditation that would only affect gtld, technically they can still operate to manage and sell cctld assuming the cctld registry doesn't also shun them, no? Looking at the site, they do sell some cctld. Wonder what will happen to cctld they manage since icann generally doesn't interfere with cctld operation.
More shenanigan lol https://domainnamewire.com/2026/09/01/trustname-theft/
now thats a newest drama on the net!
hope users get their domains back. Most of the trustname.com users were into phishing, spam, illegal drugs and illegal pharmacy niches. IDK if other registrar's will keep them. but some domain do have a seo value/aftermarket value which the trustname owner/employee and/or hackers who hacked into the accounts and transferred-out will benefit.
ICANN is mandating accredited Registrars to periodically transmit the list of domains held by the Registrar through DENIC Escrow Services. (If not fulfilled, corrective action is taken against the Registrar)
Since ccTLDs are not ICANN's management area, I do not know exactly, but regarding gTLDs, if contact with ICANN and the accredited Registrar is lost or the IANA ID is forcibly terminated and suspended, I remember that ICANN takes action so that they can be transferred to another Registrar through the domains stored in DENIC Escrow Services.
In any case, if a problem occurs with the Registrar, the ones who suffer damage are the consumers who trusted the Registrar and registered or transferred domains.
Update: Customer sues Trustname in U.S. court for stolen domains!
https://domainnamewire.com/2026/09/03/trustname-theft-2/
In short: Oath Research a chemical research and production company in US had 15-20 domains in the account. most got transferred by hacker/trustname employee to dynadot.
too bad that Trustname is already broke lololol. also $70k/day in revenue yet they chose some sketchy "bulletproof" registrar owned by some Belarusian guy for all their domains...

i have got email from trustname that they'll be back with same privacy protection. lol.
And most importantly: Trustname is not closing. We will continue operating and supporting customers throughout the transition. At the same time, we are already working on our new registrar structure and expect to relaunch registrar operations under a new/rebranded setup. More crypto. The same strong privacy philosophy. An upgraded Reseller API. More resilient infrastructure. Stronger DNS Abuse auto-detections. And a new chapter for Trustname.
