All my personal stuff is in a rack in an insulated metal framed cube room in my detached block garage with a 9k btu minisplit. I have 2 ISP connections. No backup power for me. I don't do anything at all to generate revenue, just hobbyist, lab projects and hosting stuff for friends. Site-to-site between friends networks that I hub and spoke from a VPS with good networking. I think if I had a backup generator and commercial agreement with ISPs I would probably feel comfortable hosting services for revenue...

Don't forget wooden racks. If you buy pre-built, you won't be a real basement provider.

I have more internet in my basement (Bell Fibe 3 Gbps) than my 300 Mbps Kimsufi server.

Joking aside, I think most residential ISP's prohibit hosting..

After being employed as a DevOps Engineer at several companies, for about half a year I have been a contractor in a company that focuses on cybersecurity. I am lucky that at work we have many locations with on-prem servers that we maintain. I can say that I am damn lucky that all the knowledge I have accumulated at HAZI.ro has brought me the good jobs of yesterday and today. HAZI.ro is also profitable even if it is self-managed. I don't have as many clients as I used to, but I have many clients who have several services in parallel and that is better for me because:

these clients don't abuse
these clients don't ask for help unless there is a real problem
they don't spam the ticket system

Right now we got 4 x E5v3/v4 rack servers, couple of Core i5 towers, about 20ish laptops that we can put to good use ah and couple of macbooks too!
