VPS.TC to increase prices by 50% (with a 2 day's notice)

I just got the following email from vps.tc, a Turkish VPS provider:

Dear forest

Thank you for choosing vps.tc.

We would like to inform you, clearly and in advance, of an upcoming change: as of 25 August, our service pricing will be updated.

This was not a decision we took lightly. Faced with rising hardware, data centre and network infrastructure costs, we had two options: compromise on the quality of our service, or align our pricing with its true cost. We chose the latter. Our promise has always been the same — uninterrupted performance, responsive support, and infrastructure you can rely on.

Following the update, our entry-level VPS plan will be offered at $2.99 per month.

Please note: our current pricing remains unchanged until 25 August. All orders placed and renewals made before this date will be honoured at the existing rates.

Should you have any questions, or wish to review your current plan with us, our team remains at your disposal.

Thank you for your continued trust.

With our best regards,

Önemli: 25 Ağustos'a kadar mevcut fiyatlarımız değişmeden geçerliliğini korumaktadır.

While the email only mentions their entry-level plan, the price increase applies to all VPS plans on 26 August 2026, 00:00 (UTC+3). Of course, they're trying to pressure people into renewing early before then by giving only 2 days notice. That's pretty typical of them, unfortunately. At least they're still cheap.

As a note, some time on the 22nd, they migrated to better hardware. While I was previously on an Intel Xeon E5-4657L v2 @ 2.4 GHz with over 40% CPU steal, it's now running on an Intel Xeon Platinum 8173M @ 2.0 GHz and CPU steal has dropped to 5-10% at 50% usage (still oversold but much more performant than before). So they no longer have the highest CPU steal of my fleet (that medal goes to ServerHost's CA location).

CPU usage graph indicating when they likely migrated VMs:

beszel

They do not perform live migrations it seems, since the server was shut down at around that time. I suspect the change of hardware coinciding with their price increase was no coincidence.

VPS.TC is 2nd in my list of shit hosts. 1st place is of course DeluxHost.. I am only talking of where I have ongoing contracts.. they also recently limited their Turkey-based VPS monthly transfer from unmetered to "numbered".. NYC-based ones are still unmetered. i did manage a good deal with them though: last year i topped off my wallet with $100 when it was the doubling promotion, then a few weeks later i switched several monthlies to yearlies at half price. so in general part of that money quadrupled. still they are a shit host, one of the worst.. at some point took me 2 months to wrestle from them action on extreme STEAL on all 5 VPS i had with them (my workload only uses 4-5% CPU), after they forced me to upgrade 3 of the 5 to higher tiers saying it was the solution, which it was not, of course.. then in june bandwidth on 2 of the 5 VPS was limited to 10mbps for no reason and nothing i did forced them to fix that shit..

That's odd. Mine says I've used 75 / 3 TB of my monthly transfer limit. Then again I'm also getting around 10 Mbps (a little over actually) so that could be the throttle, or the fact that I'm really not using a lot of network.

I guess it is throttled. Oh well, 10 Mbps is actually enough for me so I'm not too upset.

But yes, I agree that they are not a great provider for a number of reasons. But they're the only cheap provider in Turkey that meets my requirements so I'll stick with them unless something better comes out.

Seems they don't care about abuse complaints either, since some people run Tor exits on their network.

they only care to what their government dictates - like no youtube during "hard times", no pornhub, xhamster and porn in general, no warp or some other VPNs, etc.. draconian shit if you ask me..

currently 2 Turkey-based VPS i have with them are limited to 14mbps for "overuse".. 3 others are not limited, but as i mentioned, they strong-armed me into upgrading those to 2nd and 3rd tier.. i am letting go of those and getting 3 NYC based 1st tier ones. this will use up all of my remaining credit. next renewals will not be happening, even if quadrupling opportunity comes up once more..

I'm not so sure. While I think that's possible some providers deserve to be on that list and to be called predatory, I also think - in fact know in some cases - that prices have gone up drastically for relevant resources, so providers just have to increase their prices as well.

Expect more of these predatorial actions. No one in their right mind will refuse money on the table.
