Actually ME and PSP are quite important for modern security. Without them you lose significant important features like (proper) IOMMU isolation, TXT, memory encryption, etc. And you can use measured boot to ensure that they haven't been tampered with to add a backdoor.

In fact, it's using the default QEMU CPU model, so it lacks AES-NI, PCLMULQDQ, AVX2, and nearly all other modern ISA extensions. I've asked the provider to enable CPU passthrough (he's done it before on request) and then I'll re-do the YABS.

Specs that won't change due to CPU host passthrough (networking and storage performance) have been skipped. Due to the enabling of AVX2, single core performance increased by 47.0% (615 to 901) and multicore performance increased by 44.6% (2029 to 2933). AES-NI, nested virtualization, and various security and performance features have also been turned on. Nice!

Some feedback about the script:
That script can't handle resizes. Running
--helpdoes nothing (though thankfully the comments show the flags), and-hor-helpcauses a bug:The misleadingly-named
--no-colorworks though, but it should instead be called something like--no-tui. Perhaps that could get renamed? Or split into its own option so one could have a grayscale TUI or colored output without having to disable both at once. Would also be nice if it could stick to unicode that renders on a typical VT, or to have an option.Another suggestion would be not to use
ddfor memory bandwidth since it's not going to be accurate at all.Same with the SHA256 hashing, not only because that can change drastically based on the presence of SHA-NI, but because the
sha256sumutility isn't as optimized as OpenSSL's implementation. Plus, since you're piping to it, you're also indirectly polluting the measurement with context switching overhead. Why not just useopenssl speed?Additionally, the multi-core benchmarks aren't going to be accurate without setting CPU affinity, and there are a lot of unnecessary uses of awk for parsing (bash can do that kind of parsing natively).

It's pretty in TUI mode, but at the moment, it's inferior to YABS (except for showing CPU steal and jitter, which is a nice touch). As it stands, the disk I/O trace and sustained tests, non-Geekbench CPU benchmark, and memory benchmark tests are so inaccurate that they're currently worse than nothing, and the network test leaves out critical information.
More detailed feedback below the test.
