Found a 4-core Intel Dedi with nvidia 3050 8G vRAM GPU in India from Indian DC NCXHOST.com

As you may know from previous discussions, I moved my hosting to Asia with Asian companies, and I am always looking for Asian providers offering services in Asia.

I was searching for a low-cost dedicated machine from an Asian provider in Asia. To my surprise, I found a legitimate-looking offer from NCXhost.com in India.

It is a Tier III data centre in the north-east of India offering direct services. I needed the machine for more than basic computing, such as hosting for AI and ML.

Dedicated Machine with GPU listed as GPU GN1 Nano:

8 GB VRAM (GPU) - nvidia 3050
4 Cores - 4 Threads - Core i5-6500
16 GB RAM
1TB NVMe SSD
IPv4 & IPv6 Dedicated IP address
Unlimited Bandwidth
7999 INR/month or ~84 USD/month

I inquired about the provisioning time, and was told that it is 72 hours. Private email hosting is also permitted, as I requested. Some premium options, such as the G2 with an RTX 4090, are available for next-day delivery. [Way out of my budget, though.]

There is also a 20% recurring discount: AIRESEARCH

Note: I have no affiliation with the provider other than being from the same country and continent, nor do I receive any monetary benefit for sharing this information. I just found out about this Budget Dedicated Machine with GPU option. This is something new for me, especially from an Indian provider.

According to my communications with support:
This is their way of giving back to the student and research community.

Could this system be a good option for beginners in AI/ML research and academia?

For this flat price, I get a decent Nvidia dGPU compute system that I can run 24/7. It is neither sliced nor shared with anyone else and there are no other limits whatsoever. The bandwidth is unlimited too.

I suppose these are the perks of the services offered by a new data centre.

Should I try this? What do you think?

  • I had read about them on some news site too !! I guess even Assam CM had posted about this, not 100% sure tho !! If price is affordable for you, I would love if you could give it a try and post a review after a month or two. Their VPS offerings are decent too, so after your review I will decide on trying them.

I spoke with their WA support last month and asked for a looking glass; the response I received was that it is currently under development.

I can't comment on the service, though. I have a Guwahati tour planned for October of this year, so I'll try to visit their DC in person.

Are you living in 2010s? India can, also this is a DC we are talking about.

    As per the support:

Up to 1 Gbit/s unmetered [shared with others] via uplink.
There is no data transfer cap.

Yes, for immediate future I plan to get a VPS for DNS and then eventually for email, I will replace my server in South East Asia i.e. TH with this and see how it goes.

From Mumbai to Guwahati ping averages around 60 ms. A bit weird.

Probably some IP tunneling. Is this confirmed a real DC or just some ... basement?

I wonder if someone ever considered building their own racks with some wood ;-)

  • @Falzo said: Probably some IP tunneling. Is this confirmed a real DC or just some ... basement?

Definitely agree here. No proper DC in India will offer this kind of setup,
for this budget. Or it can be a "big shed with fiber line" but not real DC.

Confirmed DC of course. There are two locations  I asked an online guy I know to check and he confirms one site so far.

There is no proper IXP in Guwahati. It is North East Region of India.

How is someone going to run a DC from a basement in a region like Guwahati?

It is not a place where you can get 10G EPON and you can just do BGP on residential.

Did business with Govt of Assam back in early 2000s. Inspite of being in a remote part of India the folks seemed to be super progressive with reduced red-tape.

Unsure if this is backed by the govt or private entity entirely.

Chances of it being a proper DC is high.

But take my words with a grain of salt. Its almost quarter of century since I worked with them but still in connection with folks that started off

  • @manish said: How is someone going to run a DC from a basement in a region like Guwahati?

Exactly my point, how can someone run a profitable business from that area,
now let's talk about electricity costs, hardware, internet? I just can't see it that
way. I'm not Indian, unless you get some free storage and electricity, this offer
is way below market. Now, I'm not any side of the question here, just fishy as f**k.

  • @manish said: Unlimited Bandwidth

Here is where you started to look suspicious. Nothing is "unlimited" in APAC.

I am actually originally from Assam BTW.

This won't be a proper DC I think. The location, as I have spoken with my friends, is a complex along with resident area also.

I'll enquire tomorrow by calling them.

Bought a vps BTW (why not encourage my local entrepreneurs!) but server is not accessible right now. Not a good first impression but let's see what they do after the ticket.

This is a private one. Owned by Technofaq Digital

Their punch line is: 'Assam’s First Public Data Center – Built by Locals, For The World'

    100% Homegrown, 100% Assamese

I guess they are motivated by vocal for local?

As per them other DCs there are for government use only with zero public access other than this Control S DC with limited public access by a company in HYD.

Chances of it being a proper DC is high.

    Great!

India can have unlimited bandwidth for sure but not with that price, india has currently 1000$ for 1G 95% which is 1,00,000 INR monthly from TATA or Airtel or other

So everything else in spec looks doable only unmetered bandwidth is not possible or maybe there is some fair uses policy,
Because I see it says upto :) so it might give 10Mbps upto 1000Mbps

Also please do visit them physically
These days every hosting websites in india calls themselves datacenter, but in real they own racks in other datacenters,

If you host racks/servers in one floor/own house then you are not actually a proper datacenter, no proper backups no proper certification, there are lots of things before you call yourself a proper datacenter.

Also look at their spec, it's a desktop cpu, it looks like they are using tower pc and just connecting it to internet with public ip and renting them, if you plan to use something like this then why not host it on your house ?
These days you can get broadband with public ip easily with very good price, after all with that offer you are getting similar service, don't expect real rack server hosted in datacenter experience with that.

But I must say north east is perfect location for datacenter, hopefully soon we will see many datacenter there, I heard google is planning for investment there, more will follow, then hopefully we will also follow. Because it's perfect location for apac, it's bit near to Singapore geographically.. also weather is good hence less electricity to cool down servers.
