Amsterdam Qupra DC2 Cooling issues
After a few more or less shorter issues with cooling, Amsterdam Qupra DC2 now seems to have major cooling issues. Already for 24 hours temperatures in the DC are high, and reports are coming in of customers having all kind of issues because of that.
I have a server in that DC and temperatures are worrying for 24 hours now; don't know if there are LET providers that are affected and how they cope with the problems.

Kinda strange it's happening now. If i'm not mistaken temperatures around the region should have finally gone down over the last couple days after all.
True, on the other hand temperature only really came down yesterday. What I see in my monitoring, already last Friday temperature did significantly rise for an amount of time, came back to normal. Then yesterday morning, temperatures started to rise again, went further up as last week but went down again. Only not to the same level as before.
Then, yesterday evening they started to rise again and stayed there until this very moment
So basically I think things were already starting to fail earlier - when indeed it was quite hot over here.
True and it's also not like it's exactly cold now. Just more around 30 instead of the 40+ it was before.
Hmm, maybe it's some cooling system that's failing. 40+ would likely make it worse but failing at 30 is probably still going to cause problems.
In skylink we have no issues @HostSlick
Walked around for years in datacenters - seeing the power that is in one rack and knowing the efficiency of equipment (i.e. heat coming out of a server), it's one big radiator. Every DC needs cooling all of the time - only in "colder" (< 25 deg) they are more efficient - but cooling equipment still must work to have descent temperatures on the datafloor.
You know you're having a problem as a datacenter when customers have to mention that there aren't problems at your place when others have issues...
There is a distinct lack of numbers here. What used to be the temperature, what is it now?
MB temperature sensor in my server used to measure 20 degrees and is now on 60.
Most likely the whole airflow is gone, so all servers in racks are sitting in their own "heat bubble"
Free sauna
That’s hot.
And not in a sensual way.
Maybe they try to reduce the costs regarding the recent energy price increases. If everything remains functional, it means it works and it can be implemented as basic rules.
By few years, I have a feeling that the commerciants prioritize more the profit than the customer satisfaction or quality provided. I know the profit is crucial. But (for me) it looks like they squeeze every penny, the deals are no real deals just almost expired products that are on sale.
The same principle might apply to this industry also.
Reform no longer means innovation or improvement, but only cost reduction.
Very slowly now temperatures in my server are coming down - still around 50 degrees though.
Might as well use chicken coop for DC. Temperature is controlled using giant fan. And I'm sure that will result in better temperature than 50°C
LOL... in my coop there is no fan, but last Friday temperatures in there were just over 50; however there is not much equipment in there, only a Raspberry Pi...
Anyway, it seems that they're slowly getting cooling back; it's now 47 deg, hope it keeps on going down and is stable. They needed 2 days for it...
That's not what I mean, something like this and big ass turbine

HVAC isn't easy. Should have opened every window on the DC lol
Undersized cooling, See it all the time. Especially in Frankfurt where power is limited and expesive.
The DC was planned for a 35C max. as was usual and the chillers are literally in the sun judging from Google Maps.
At first it kept up, then im sure a compressor failed entirely and thats why you now had also at night - Replacing this should not take more than 24 hours, you should have contracts for that.
I know - and I also mean a real chicken coop. Only we have 6 chickens and not thousands. So a smaller coop. And a RPi in it.
LOL. Your home must be a nice rijtjeshuis. What are you going to plant this summer?
Beans, strawberries, rhubarb, pumpkins, courgettes and tomatoes. The "other plants" commonly found in the Netherlands are not to my taste, and they need more light as I can offer them ;-)
[/me starts humming... "Dit is het verhaal van een plant..."]

We have some servers there, on the peak of this some servers of us even crashed due to severe disk throttling. NVMe sensors shown disk and CPUs over 100 Celsius
Now it’s better but still disk temp about 67 while it was only about 30
Multiple providers are also affected
Nice. Although, the later part me thought of unusual ratatouille.
As for shaded garden, perhaps something like pomegranate or cherry tree? Certain type of orange or mini lime also like shades. If it's small patch, pineapple also works.
LOL. That's meltdown territory.
Yeah, I saw some reactions here and there. I think I've been quite lucky with my server and its cooling. At this moment temperatures seem to settle down at values that I saw between the first issue on monday and the "big one". So still higher as before and unhealthy as an ambient temperature for people working there.
Not unhealthy, plainly illegal. A full day 50C work environment definitely does not play well with Dutch laws.
I hope they get their compressor fixed fast, if they have no contract good luck sourcing any HVAC equipment in Europe right now, industrial or not.
Inlet temperature on my server is now 36 deg, I'll qualify that as "unhealthy but maybe legal". Just as they usually supply earplugs at the entrance of a datacenterfloor - not because they think you'll use them, but because they want to able to comply with those regulations.
True, last week I had to find a certain quite common tube that also can be used for an HVAC. Nowhere to be found, sold out everywhere.
I clearly need to completely cover my head with a thermal paste. Wrong Monique above.
Here's the correct one:
