RS COMPUTERS - Merger with AVS ISP

Got this email:

We are excited to share some important news with all of our valued clients.

RS Computers LLC is joining forces with AVS ISP. This transition will bring many new features, locations, and improvements for clients of both companies.

AVS ISP is already operating in multiple locations, including:

Tirana, Albania

London, UK (IE Geo)

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Skopje, North Macedonia

Over the coming days, all RS Computers clients and virtual machines will be migrated into the AVS ISP platform.

What this means for you:

Your pricing will not change
Whatever you are currently paying at RS Computers will carry over to AVS ISP. If you are currently on a non-monthly billing term (quarterly, yearly, etc.), your current renewal price will be converted into monthly service time starting from your next renewal date as AVS ISP billing is handled on monthly terms for automatic renewals. You can always extend your VM manually in the AVS ISP panel for longer terms, offering added discounts.

More available locations
You will have access to additional AVS ISP locations while keeping your existing VMs. No data will be lost during this transition.

VM migration and downtime
Each VM will experience a short planned downtime while it is moved to the new system. Migration will begin after you receive a welcome email from AVS ISP containing your new login information (unless you already have an account, in which case, you will not receive a new welcome email).

Please check your inbox and spam folder for emails from AVS ISP. If you have trouble logging in to RS Computers or do not see your VMs there, please check your AVS ISP account.

Existing AVS ISP accounts
If you already have an AVS ISP account using the same email address, your VMs will be moved directly into your existing account. You will not receive a new password email — you will only receive a notification once your VMs have been migrated.

IP addresses
For now, existing IP addresses will continue working normally at AVS ISP. More information regarding any future IP changes will be provided if needed.

Billing at AVS ISP
You can continue using Crypto payments, just as you did with RS Computers. Please note that AVS ISP uses a prepaid billing system. Instead of receiving invoices, you will receive VM expiration reminders and can either maintain account credit or add credit before your renewal date.

BGP and BYOIP support
AVS ISP supports customer BGP sessions and Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP). If you have your own IP space and/or ASN, you can announce it from the AVS ISP network.

IPv6 support
AVS ISP fully supports IPv6. More information will be provided on enabling IPv6 for your services. Cloud-init will be used where possible to automatically configure IPv6 addresses; if cloud-init is disabled, manual configuration may be required.

The migration process will begin with clients located in Skopje, North Macedonia, and will continue with other locations afterward.

If you have any questions, please open a ticket through RS Computers or AVS ISP (https://www.avsisp.com), and our team will be happy to assist.

Thank you for being a loyal RS Computers client. We look forward to continuing to provide services for many years to come as part of AVS ISP.

Yours sincerely,
The RS Computers & AVS ISP Team

This kind of sucks because AVS ISP does not allow Tor, not even non-exits, and I have two relays with RS Computers.

I can only hope that AVS ISP is willing to keep the RS Computers ASN for at least a few services rather than moving it all to his own, because I know that he doesn't want to dirty his own ASN with relays.

It's not the end of the world, but unmetered bandwidth in Kosovo and Macedonia is quite nice.

All RS Computers clients are staying on the same IPs they had on the same ASN for now and no Tor blocks are yet in place on those ranges. If / when that changes, a new notice will be sent in advance. Please feel free to continue running your relays and using your services as normal - nothing will change at this time except for where you pay and get console access to the VMs and so on.

    Thank you for your support.

While under RS Computers, there actually was a bandwidth limit, usually ~ 1TB/mo. On AVS ISP there is no such limit, effective from the moment you get the email that your VM was transferred you will have truly unlimited bandwidth @ 1Gb/s.

While right now, we are focusing to move over the MK VMs - XK / Kosovo will follow shortly thereafter.

As mentioned before in our last reply here - there is no Tor block in place on former RS Computers customers at this time and they will continue to use their old IPs normally with no changes to function at this time other than the billing and remote access panel location (rscomputers-ks.com -> avsisp.com)

When we open a new location, it's become a tradition that we offer a single lifetime VM of each plan size. We don't always advertise it here, but existing customers with marketing emails enabled in their account get emails about it. It's extremely limited to avoid overselling of such plans and to ensure stability and longevity of the service. The tradition usually flows this way:
    1) New location is planned and announced to all
    2) Everything is setup and ready to go
    3) Hidden panel pages are made for lifetime with a strict limit of 1 per plan type / VM size
    4) Existing lifetime members are sent the email with the link first, giving them first pick on another lifetime plan in a new location
    5) 24 hours after existing plan holders get the link to lifetime, if there are still any unsold, the link is then sent to all customers with "marketing emails" enabled in their account

This isn't something we offer very often - it's truly a very stable and limited offer that helps to recoup some of the costs involved in launching that new location while giving our customers something they can benefit from at the same time.

That's awesome! Thank you! I was worried about that because they were well-performing.

Are the upstreams changing at all?

The owner actually gave me some pretty substantial bandwidth increases (and for free!), so I never had to worry about the 1 TB limit. But it's very good that it'll be fully unmetered now. I doubt I'll use more than 50 Mbps, though!

Hey bro, can confirm that I got the same VM from RS Computer migrated to AVSISP, it was smooth and everything remains the same.

Are the upstreams changing at all?

Yes - but in a good way. We've joined IXP.mk, added HE peering and v6, Cloudflare direct peering, etc. along with DF loop to Kosovo and Albania directly.

Cogent is still the main upstream at the moment. Longer term contracts and so forth - and the IP ranges themselves for RS are even Cogent leased - so there's no immediate rush to move - that's up to Riad if we change anything there - it's a merger, not a buyout, he's still around
