Please share the microscope model you're using.
    Preferably the $7 one.

Please do share so I can finally enjoy @emgh dick pics.

    You... enjoy dick pics?

Sure I do. The male body is beautiful. I do rather prefer MAN-BOOBS but most are too uncomfortable sharing.

So, you like collecting shemale pron? Don't forget to pass it down to your daughter as heirloom

Let me guess: you pass down your porn stash?

    I will.

Digital or physical stash? If digital, how do you handle renewal of storage?

No. Passing down the digital should be done by passing down the hard-drives which contain the stash. Nobody should rely on providers and/or renewals with something this important.

So maybe stored on a NAS then?

More important question is, how will they/he/she/it + know its even there? Its not like you gonna put that in your will right?

You could put it in your will, with a specific message: my personal hard drives go to my daughter to enjoy some movie entertainment during her loneliness, when she feels down or when she's happy, since we're all beautiful humans and experience the waves of life throughout an imperfect universe.

Can you leave me one of your VPS in your will

Can you leave me one of your VPS in your will

I have no idea if this is possible. I know about auctions and transfer fees and conditions, but leaving a VPS in a will might be more of a legal burden and a legal cost with lawyers.

In theory one could avoid solicitors by opening a ticket with the provider beforehand stating that I agree to leave a specific storage VPS to be transferred to you after my death — but even then one has to prove towards the provider that I actually died and I don't try to take advantage of free transfer from the provider by faking death, nor that you might try to claim my stash illegally without me actually dying.

And then, there's the issue of what if you murder me on purpose, while knowing full well the ticket number from the provider to claim my stash. This complicates things even further because it could lead to imprisonment, which then begs the important question: how will you get to enjoy it in prison?

Well Sherlock, I take it that you are not aware of email retention policies which allow keeping spam for many years. In my case it is 3 years.

If you want to dig deeper with me as Watson: here is more info: This crunchbits account is linked to my gmail id which, since has a full storage, I have setup a forwarder. That forwarder forwards all gmail emails to a company email id. On the company email id (support by Google workspace) I have email retention policy which allows spams to remain intact for 3 years.

It's people like you who encourage shitty behavior from providers - for you the providers are godlike and customers are a filth who can be blamed for anything on earth.

Instead of getting the greed in check, which allowed them to create alluring packages, they are blaming thousands of customer together - that's ridiculous to say the least.

And people like you support them just because you might yourself be a provider.

Who will think of general public? You want to create a provider centric forum where public is banned just because you find some self-constructed defect in the given argument?

  • openidopenid Member

This really should not be blamed on crunchbits. It appears they sent the email a long time ago and provided a solution. I recall that last time they sent this email, someone complained on LowEndTalk about why it was sent to them. I think this service provider is quite good based on my experience.

this is the VPS series that you could keep renewing if you opened a ticket right?

    Nopes.

Actually it looks like it is. Looks like OP had the PROMO Yearlies plans like me and not a "lifetime" VPS. In the announcement Crunchbits highly suggested opening a support ticket which I did, and they told me they would love to keep me as long as I wish to stay with them.

It looks like they planned to migrate me to another server but that hasn't happened yet

It's great to know it is working for you. However, I did not see any such email. Today as some members told that they saw such email, now I can see there is one in my spam box.
However as the email and ticket says: They did not give an option to any customer to stay on this plan. Still you go to stay on same plan, I can only say that you are lucky.

"We are terminating all accounts for one plan since the users are bugging us a lot" - this is the reason they gave. Isn't it their job - to handle the issues as and when they arrive? Why should you terminate all customers?

Perhaps you should chargeback, but you can't.
    1. It's apparent you're negligent at maintaining clear line of communication. For 18 months.
That's liability for any kind of business. If someone can't be contacted within timely manner, then they will be forced to default —which risks outrage from customer's side.
Thus, it makes me wonder, why you can't? School, college taught us how to be an Adult, whether it's doing assignment, projects and the consequences of not doing it. And checking email is easy (unless you got bombarded by high spam volume).
    2. Their business
They are the one to decide whether to continue offering particular goods&service or not. Can you force shopkeepers IRL to lower their prices for you? Likely no
They already fulfilled their obligation, but you're being unreasonable.

    1. When I have a paid service with auto renew, that too a backup setup for a small VPS, I could not check it due to higher priorities. However You can always troll me that i did not check it for 18 months.

    2. I have no problems if a shopkeepers stops selling some item. The problem is if he lies while discontinuing and puts the blame on all the customers.

    3. In their email they have not mentioned any way to keep the service running. As I said you were lucky that you got to continue. Others didn't get to continue despite emailing.

    1. You don't check any of the backup script log?
    2. The tragedy of the commons parallel is clear. It could be assumed many users abused the service or the supporting infrastructure such as the ticket system.
      See https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4735446/#Comment_4735446
In short, Hosts sells cheap goods -> people of all kinds purchased -> certain users make tickets disproportionately -> wastes resource more than the value of the goods -> hosts decide to discontinue because it became more expensive to maintain than expected -> everyone lose :\
    3. I hadn't have that vps. I would politely ask host whether they have similar plan and price if they choose to terminate my existing plan. Most likely, you will get template response. But, @crunchbits knows there's users who could cooperate with the implied cost structure.
      > Low cost plan + low-maintenance user -> profit
      > Low cost plan + high-maintenance user -> loss
Is it illegal to choose their customer? Well, that'd require lawyers

You're talking in absolute/always. Rubbish hosts and rubbish users exist, and they could be the 1st and 2nd party in the contract.
Again, would you blame hosts that already provides service for thin margin for raising costs because their cost structure doesn't permit price adjustment once every 5-10 years?

  • rcy026rcy026 Member

Nope, wrong again. Crunchbits was extremely clear, several times, that not all users were abusers. They stated it over and over that a part of the userbase was very abusive, not all users.
Also, they gave the "good users" a lot of options. I guess I was one of the good users, because I just listened to what they said and I still have my vps on the original plan.

It is very obvious that you are very butthurt by this, but it is really not Crunchbits fault. They could have just terminated the plan and kicked out every single user, because contrary to what you are trying to claim this was never a lifetime plan.
Instead, they put in a shitload of time and effort to try to find a solution for the good users, time that most certainly put them in the loss for years considering what these plans costs. Definitely not a case of greed in any way, if there was any kind of greed involved they would have simply terminated every single user because I can guarantee you that they will never make any kind of profit at all on those plans.

On the contrary how retarded do you need to be to think that one client not reading an email that went to spam 2 years ago is enough to classify a host as having "shitty behaviour"

My dude has spam email retention policy set to 3 years, but no policy for making sure servers are online or paid(?). Seems like something somewhere went wrong.

Are you owned any money from Crunchbits after that server was cancelled or the billing period just ended and you forgot to renew it aka you expected some e-mails that never came?

Providers can stop offering products - if it's done after the billing period that is kinda normal and fully expected? Sure, there is some extra work to re-setup different server, but you signed up for (example) yearly contract and it just ended.

Companies really need to start clarifying what kind of “lifetime” they mean.

    Bug lifetime? - 4-12 Months
    Human lifetime? - 70–80 years.
Summer host lifetime? - Sub 3 months

Huge advocate for companies listing the actual lifespan on these lifetime offers.
Most seem to have life expectancy of a gas station phone charger.

Any person with more than 2 brain cells will understand that a service like VPS can't be provided on any "lifetime" basis, unless you paid like 1k$+ for it upfront or something.
Who is gonna cover the electicity, hardware replacements, IP rental, support?

This was not a lifetime in any way, shape or form. Crunchbit has never sold any lifetimes, that was something op pulled out of his ass.
The name of the plan was "PROMO Yearly" and Crunchbit terminated it at the end of the billing term, it's pretty obvious that it was never a lifetime so I have no idea how op came to that conclusion.

Any person with more than 2 brain cells will understand that a service like VPS can't be provided on any "lifetime" basis, unless you paid like 1k$+ for it upfront or something.
Who is gonna cover the electicity, hardware replacements, IP rental, support?
This is not a Windows 10 license.

Lifetime VPS can exist as an initial investment in the provider, while the provider bets on technology evolving and price per computing power becoming cheaper over time. The whole business goes bad when price of technology and electricity goes up, instead of down.

With this in mind, would one have bet 7 years ago that we would go through pandemic, war financing, economic sanctions, AI affecting hardware, all of this in just 7 years? And all of this still keeps going today with no end in sight, but a huge depression in the horizon. Nobody would be crazy enough to make lifetime plans now, unless they're scammers, but back then and even after pandemic people were hopeful we would go back on growing economically in order to live long and prosper.

Back on topic: Crunchbits never offered lifetimes on LET from what I remember.

None of my next paragraph applies to crunchbits, as people have said that this was not a lifetime deal.

I agree that anyone who buys a lifetime package is making a mistake. That doesn't mean the provider is off the hook for selling it. Any provider that sells a lifetime deal and then cancels it later deserves to be absolutely roasted.
