Dedirock data loss
in Outages
Christ is Risen! Hello!
I have a storage VPS with Dedirock (for a few months). I'm using it for doing automated backups. However, i recently found a ticket opened saying they lost my data.
Is it an usual problem of Dedirock? Should I search for another provider?

Usually, I think, but sometimes I don't think
"Tank you!"
they're pretty budget to be using for backups, but different folks. or maybe you have multiple vps you're using.
Just here to say that may God bless you and that Christ is Risen indeed 🙌
@DediRock
Hey @ITChristian sorry about any trouble here. I will DM and you get your info and take a look right away.
Thank You.
wait i thought he got a ticket from dedirock saying they lost data, was it a different dedirock?
I've already lost data once, and it seems to be common. It doesn't surprise me; at those prices, they're obviously recycling ancient hardware.
I think they're running raid0, I remember @DediRock saying at some point they plan on upgrading to raid5 or something similar.
That's a new rename that won't take.
Yes, but also another administrator to monitor your backups so you're aware when your server is offline without having to "find" a ticket informing you.
thats why we need backup server for the backup server
Your avatar is legendary.
thanks. its @Nekki arts.
Really? Even more bonus points for using @Nekki art!
I have messaged DediRock directly. Thank you all for your replies — I needed to know other users’ opinions and experiences on these matters.

Look a space ship
provider raid setup is not backup, as raid can fail and wipe all the data.
have you got any alternative backups?
lol what?
premium provider i guess
They are performing maintenance job.
They seem to be a good provider — very polite, and they offered me an extra month free as compensation for the data loss. Fortunately I didn’t lose anything important: just a few pieces of software I created; the rest of the files are in a previous backup of the backup. So everything’s fine. Also, @DediRock confirmed many of the nodes are using RAID 5 now, which adds an extra layer of confidence.
@ITChristian no problems with my dedirock vps-es at LA+BUFFALO
Considering this failure, I think @DediRock should consider using RAID 6, although it would mean increasing the price by few bucks
RAID is overated, its still not a backup
Yea, I also think it's better to loose all live data when a single drive fails. The best part of it is, that my backup job is running each second, so I still have that data. lol
We are talking about a 7 dollar/Year chicken not a enterprise solution. That would be 10 dollar per year.
yo raid0 kinda reckless tho
My porn is in raid0. YOLO.
ehhh I use dedirock for my valuable proxmox cluster
maybe i need to grab another deal to backup the proxmox backup server using dedirock?
I trust dedirock. I went raid 0 on one of my homelab.
