    blue, red
    dragon, georg
    trump, putin

just different names, same game for centuries, still no winner.

EU is doing NIS2 and providers are implementing it as the government now requests personal documents for domain verification, latest example is INWX from Germany implementing police state

FWIW, I don't think I've ever had any spam from a .su domain.

Possibly because a .RU domain is much cheaper than a .SU domain.

Regarding the Max messenger, right now it is easily avoidable. It is not required to access the Internet, to use state services, or to pass age verification. Although they nudge everyone to install it so actively, that it might be, at some point. Sensible people plan for a second smartphone for that.

That's right. I can also say that Max currently has fewer features than Telegram, as it is a new player in the market, and not all of its features have been implemented yet. For example, WeChat has been developed for many years and is widely used by the Chinese, making it an excellent system for them. For those who want to discuss the policies of the Communist Party, there are probably other systems available, including Telegram:)

Telegram is about to be banned anyway so...

I thought Telegram was actually made by a Russian company. A lot of people I know have never trusted it for that reason.

    You're right about that.

Currently there's a lot of people sharing and talking about stuff they don't approve of. It's only a matter of time.

  • Anyone knows what will happen with foreigner-owned domains who already verified their ID with respective registrar? Will they need to verify again?

No one knows yet, however, it seems like they want to push you to use and verify through https://www.gosuslugi.ru/ which you'd probably need to register.

@ralf said: No offense, but that doesn't seem any different to .ru.

Sure, but .ru is also heavily used legitimately by Russians. Not many people use .su for legitimate purposes, even in CIS countries. It's like .cn: I've only received a handful of legitimate emails from a .cn domain in my life and plenty of spam from them, but .cn also has a massive base of legitimate Chinese users. I consider .su to be a lot like .top.

It's not really used for simple email spam as much as for C2s, phishing, illegal or sketchy businesses, etc.

Only citizens of the Russian Federation or those who are physically located in the country and can personally come to the office can register on the Gosuslugi portal. Registration is not possible from outside for non citizens.

Recently, the use of phones and SIM cards registered with foreign citizens has been restricted in the same way. Everyone was temporarily blocked before verification at the office. It is now impossible for those who are abroad to use the connection without confirmation. Nothing has changed for Russian citizens.

So, who is stopping to implement "trustee" service? Like this one: https://www.netim.com/en/domain-name/services/trustee-service

In ru this will immediately take place, domain price will increase due to this. So called "кормушка".

@Levi said: In ru this will immediately take place,

The question is, if one of those domains ends up being used to post that the government or president are not all that amazing, who is going to jail then. It might very well be the "trustee" who has local presence and people inside the country.

To jail will go Aliosha from junk yard, if anyone will bothers to find him.

Prescreening of domains and sitewide scans will undergo despite anything. And to turn off ru controlled domains is easy as registering them. Treat it like LAN. Total control.

People should treat .ru domains as throwaway domains, like people use throwaway email addresses.

Besides local real use cases for .Ru, globally it's always been a shite extension.
