I'm not going to judge someone for being upset that someone they argued with was using their superior reach to profit off of an insult. Not everyone treats such things as harmless. Regardless of whether or not Wyvern's trademark theory holds legal water, he wanted to get the attack sale removed, not deplatform jar.
@forest LOL how does one dox someone if it isn't the correct person? Also, you keep mentioning doxing, but if this information is public, it's not doxing.
I don't think he's twisting it. The information has been mangled over 21 pages and he's just stating how it looks from the already-confusing discussion.
I got this saga on my Reddit feed as part of r/selfhosted and man, LET has not changed a bit
Whether or not he doxed the right person is irrelevant. He tried to dox him and get him fired. If he threatened an innocent person's livelihood instead, that doesn't make it much better.
The information, to my knowledge, was not public.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Using public information to report @WyvernCo behavior to his so-called employer to complain about his antics, as long as that information is public, is not doxing.
@WyvernCo Since it's a common point of contention, was your goal to ruin/shut down jar's business or was it to get the attack sale removed? Additionally, did you report his PayPal?
IMO, it's unfair to lump forest and WyvernCo together as equal conspirators, given that forest's conduct was much more level-headed than either jar's or WyvernCo's.
"I am requesting IMMEDIATE termination of the MXroute (Hetzner) account"
I was extremely angry at the time, but my primary goal was to get the sale taken down. To the point where I did contact PayPal but when they informed me they'd have to pull the whole account, I did not proceed further in that complaint. So I think that should show that I wasn't entirely scorched earth -- at least not before he tried to get me fired.
Linking a person's online pseudonym to their place of work is doxing specifically because the information was not public or intended to be publicly available. Whether or not it means the legal definition shouldn't matter, because it's still an attempt to correlate someone's online identity to their real life.
Doxing under the law or not, it was a pretty nasty thing to do.
Fair regarding Hetzner; this was a month ago so I might be misremembering things, and I was pretty angry at the time.
Okay, that's a little excessive. I still think it was at least somewhat understandable because he was trying to remove a personal attack. Either way, I don't think reporting jar for a ToS violation is as bad as what jar did.
Those are your own words, and screenshots of the communications, which only you can produce, would be a way less biased way to tell the story...
@nyr I think after all the needling from you Jar defenders, I'm quickly working back to the point where I'd rather see mxroute deplatformed entirely.
Don't stoop to his level. It seems that you aren't the first person jar has targeted and it's unlikely you'll be the last. Just focus on his behavior and not his company.
So as expected, you are not willing to produce the unbiased proof to support your story.
Also, I have already stated my opinion that BOTH of you are at fail.
Sorry, it's just such a dumb "gotcha." Like he proved that people's opinions can shift over time based on what the other party does? Congrats. Huge revelation.
What is the contention that he's supposed to prove? About not reporting his PayPal? (Genuinely asking, I haven't been following well enough)
The main piece of evidence that's important in this thread is the trustpilot review of jar trying to get me fired. Everyone else is just distraction from that.
It would be extremely fun, if both of them lawyer up
I'm going to continue my nap
I might ask on a law Q&A site I'm a member of. I'm curious now if either of them have legal standing. I don't know either of their jurisdictions, though
Why not enable airplane mode and go for a hike instead? Some open spaces could do you good.
Would be a complete waste of time and money for both sides. Jar made probably a grand on the attack sale, and I couldn't even pay for a cease & desist letter for that much.
He is talking like PayPal was open to looking into his complaint and they directly told him the MXroute account could be terminated if he somehow went further with the complaint.
I have trouble believing that.
Healthy advice but
Based on all the information so far, I do think that WyvernCo overreacted in how harshly he criticized jar, but I also think what jar did was far worse. Even if no one is in the right, one side was spiteful from the get go.
Whether or not WyvernCo overreacted, underreacted, or reacted just enough to jar profiting off of calling him a psycho is a red herring.
I thought he said that PayPal said the only recourse would be termination, not that PayPal would terminate jar's account if the complaint went further. I took that to mean that PayPal basically said "we can't make him remove a specific sale, all we can do is terminate". But that's just how I read it.
.> @WyvernCo said:
You mean the review that explicitly says he does not want to get you fired or disciplined, right?
