Yeah holy shit my $7 per year VPS went upto $6.6 per month lmao
Ahh lovely just got told my renewal is now $1.38/month moving forward, because as we all know $1.38/month = $7 per year
I explained in the ticket and tried to work with you. We have given you two years of $7/year VPS, but instead you would rather try to just punish us by "absolutely blast the CPU for the next 7 months until renewal". This type of attitude just reinforces the change to monthly services because of a toxic attitude some people have.
I simply asked how much of the CPU I can use for the next 7 months until I cancel
https://linveo.com/aup it's all right here, same same as before when you subscribed in 2024.
Okay so 25% constant
Was that so hard
No, it was not hard because it has been on the website as a link to the policy the entire time. Again, sorry to see this two year relationship go down the drain this quickly, but happy to work with you in the future if you'd like to use the services.
thats true. i got the e-mail from nov. 30, 2025.
i raised a ticket an mr. adam bednar just told me:
--> my polite request to switch to an annual payment of $27.50 was not addressed.
Woo, I only pay annually glad I let my VPS go. Dodged a bullet.
as I understand it, if you submit a support ticket, you can switch back to an annual plan, but—as announced on November 30, 2025—it will be 10% more expensive.
If you do a whole lot of SIMD operations on and off with a 25% duty cycle, you'll end up causing some serious power gating and use up an entire CPU core (not just hardware thread). A whole bunch of VPCLMULQDQ would do nicely. Just make sure there are several long register dependency chains in parallel and no memory accesses so the scheduler will multi-issue on every cycle and keep those FMA pipelines full. Bonus points if you tune it to just barely fit in the L1i.
There's quite a big difference between 25% spent servicing cache misses (or even waiting on a spinlock!) and 25% spent absolutely saturating the SIMD pipeline, but the OS will measure it at 25% either way!
In theory, you could probably use side-channels to determine when the node has the least spare CPU capacity and selectively run code to fight for whatever pipeline is most utilized at the time, but that would be an unacceptably atrocious amount of evil. None of this causes any damage, of course.
is it really worth all this hassle?
so far, linveo has been a very stable and high-performing provider for my needs. i’d be happy if everyone didn’t start freaking out now.
Nah. I don't even have a service with them, but it got me thinking about what's possible in theory for a goal of maximizing how much of the chipset's power budget and pipelines you use while staying within a limited amount of CPU time.
Doesn't everyone have periods where they wonder what it would be like if you merged Agner Fog and a particularly petty Satan and end up nerd-sniping themselves?
Average Linveo experience:

Thought it was a Contabo VPS for a minute
@lnx let's cut to the chase. i just got another vague, boilerplate response to my ticket. can you set up an annual payment plan for my account at $27.50 for now, or not? please, just tell me straight!
I wonder if big clouds ever faced this kind of "stress test"

does this rule apply to internet service providers too, or just to regular users?
My $7/year VPS is still on annual billing but the price increased to $13/year.
Should it be $7.7/year = $0.64month? @lnx
cancel on end-of-the-billing period.
If they were banning for being dicks, there would be 10 people banned already
My math is not mathing
@lnx are you still around, or have you gone off the grid? what’s the next step? could you please comment on this or make a final announcement in the tickets? thanks.
linveo's billing department has informed me that payments can now only be made monthly and that annual prepayment will no longer be an option. that's too bad.
Hello,
I mentioned in your ticket multiple times that it was going to be monthly only. I don't understand what confusion could be caused by this? Otherwise, there is not a whole lot else for me to really reply to on this thread. The annual packages have all been moved to manually. I have spent a good portion of the weekend making corrections as needed. If you review your invoice and still have issues, please just open a ticket in our billing control panel.
I know some people were confused by the change, but it is the path we are going. I tried to make it as fair as possible by taking the prior annual amount and divide by 12 to determine your new amount. It seems that some people still didn't like this and have decided to act out accordingly.
thanks for the info.
).
it’s still weird that you can’t pay a year in advance, but if that’s what you decided for your business, then that’s just how it is. now customers have to deal with the hassle of making a payment every month. i don’t see what the benefit is for customers or providers. whatever. the vps performs well, and whenever there was an issue to resolve, you were always interested in finding solutions (except when it comes to annual payments—you’re sticking to your guns there
Were the "challenges with annual packages" explained anywhere? Not that anybody owes me an explanation as I'm not currently a customer, but weird shit goes in my provider file in case I'm ever tempted to become one.
Can't jack up prices and see immediate profit increase!
