KYC verification on 1G shared hosting? This is laughable! You should care more about your privacy and not send your documents to just about anyone who asks for it.
Stripe allows you to view and manage user identity documents that you have collected through the Stripe Identity product. When using Stripe Identity, you can access collected images of ID documents and selfies directly through the Stripe Dashboard to confirm the authenticity of your users. They're not even registered with the ICO. This gets funnier and funnier.
Lol... that caught me offgaurd !!
That's the main problem. A random person/people can just sell your identity data or walk away with copies of your passport etc. and never be found. And next year come back under another name to collect even more details.
If Stripe only said ID verified or not without sharing any details, it would be something. But sharing your real name, address, passport etc with some LET host is way too risky.
If you have to share your ID documents, would you prefer to share it with Hetzner / netCup or xHosts / some random LET host.
Totally
https://docs.stripe.com/identity/verification-checks?type=selfie
Like I said before and there it is "In some places, such as the EU, there are privacy laws that require you to justify your use of biometric technology or offer an alternative, non-biometric means of verification. We recommend you offer an alternative verification option or consult with your legal counsel."
Also if xhosts or any other host using stripe identity has weak credentials or someone steals them or whatever, they have access to that data to sell on black market. Even Stripe itself had security issues in the past. So it's not if but when that happens.
Obviously this is not just xhosts but how does a business manage to use Stripe Identity and not even have a clue that they have access to that data and not just the verification results, that's beyond me. Not to mention other legal obligations they should know about before even attempting to use those services.
Any TL;DR? I am not gonna read all of those.
True as the risks are simply too great. Often KYC will be just an excuse for things like: Getting rid of unprofitable customers. Simply stealing the data and selling it on the black market. You use "too much" of you truly unmetered bandwidth. Your truly dedicated cores are suddenly "not pinned" or maybe they are "threads" in any case you're using too much of the dedicated cores/threads as sometimes they are "dedicated" just when you "acutually" need them but not always. Sometimes they figure out even if a business has a single customer from a specific country paying just $1 a month they need to charge VAT and register with the tax office at that country and every country will have it's own rules :-)
This thread is so riveting to read! It's insane and very long to read but like the @dbadude put out, it is a popcorn thread
In other words, yes, yes my dude, your time will come to answer to the KYC.
Yes. KYC is asked for a lifetime shared hosting.
So it's certain that I will have to upload a photo of my ID or something? (haven't received anything besides the announcement) That's crazy.
Definitely one of those "changing login locations" here because I use a VPN and change location every time I hit a Cloudflare captcha or need to change location obviously.
I'm gonna need to see your internet license or you'll go to internet jail.
There was some grumbling due to #2 because no one loves KYC, but the real drama happened after #3 because customers who are following the ToS are losing their lifetime purchases without refund due to technical issues on xHosts' and xHosts' KYC providers' side.

Are you on a shared hosting plan or a VPS? I don't believe they are doing any excessive KYC for their VPS lineup because they own the hardware and are not at as big a risk of being terminated themselves. If you are on a shared hosting plan, you'll probably get hit by KYC.
I have the lifetime hosting and still haven't gotten an email requesting KYC just an email saying that it was rolling out, I think the people who were flagged are going first
That's what I also think so.
I've got lifetime and recurring services, but all of them are idling (and I will continue to pay despite of idling condition). I haven't got any email regarding this KYC and and I don't think I will. But if I will get one of those emails, I will not send any verifications and I will give up to everything form this account. Here on LET are sooooo many alternatives available.
Until then, I'm happy with my idling services.
Damn this is crazy.
I think for the benefit of everyone, in the ToS just say that account reselling is not allowed and emails on registration cant be changed after. That would discourage abuse I think.
The MJJs don't care about that. They'll just transfer the account against the rules.
If they did then no more need for kyc since doing something prohibited means they get banned and no refund. Maybe people are doing it, reselling and transferring since it was not stated in the ToS.
They could just geo ban where most abusers are or where their buyers are. They can block those accessing using proxy or vpn too.
@xHosts I dm'd you about a ticket pls. Thanks!
