The point that intrigues me here is "more CPU and/or better one" and "more RAM".
I guess 99% of storage servers are used for either backup or "external large disk" (old stuff, movies, etc.).
IMO 1 vCore, 1GB memory is easily good enough, even on E5v4. The decisive point is the large disk. THAT'S pretty much the only spec (besides acceptable connectivity) that counts for a storage server (again, in 99% of cases) that is, Raid level 6, 1, 60, or 10 with reliable good quality disks plus a decent controller, preferably with hw cache.
Plus a decent and experienced engineer involved in the design and operation of the whole thing.
TL;DR @host_c IMO offers the best storage products here and storage only AFAIK and his prices are good, so it wouldn't come to my mind to switch (my main) storage provider.
Newer CPU, 2GB ram to 4GB ram, 20GB NVME boot disk to 50GB nvme boot disk, ipv6 /64 by default, and raid 60 instead of raid 6.
So... upgraded cpu, more ram, more nvme boot disk space, ipv6 block, and arguably better performing storage, as well.
Hi,
far too much praise
Of course we can not replace your former offers... you simply overdid it a bit too much with spec-price ratio ;-)
They were just too good.
We will see how things will develop in 2026... we will also raise pricings for storage quiet soon for new contracts. Existing ones, as usual, will remain the same.
Theoretically we are sitting here on some stock of disks. Not sure if we will use them or just sell them.
Currently with those hardware prices from the economical point of view, selling the hardware and not leasing it to customers will give you spot cash worth of multiple years revenue at once. So why bringing them into service in a datacenter with all the trouble comes with it?
The required 5-6 EUR / TB people will usually not pay to make it worth bringing it into the datacenter into service.... lets see how things develop....
Micron and samsung have their business of their life ^^;
Yet, regarding the E5-V4, Fellas I know they work OK for backups, my issue is in density, I cannot pump up 12 bays at 360 TB as I only have 12 bays ( some might have 16 - 4 internal ) yet, to be able to provide 3x8 raid 60 I need 24-26 bays, plus to provide ~1000 GB6 score, I need Scale Gen 2 as that is on pair with some AMD Epycs, oh damn, I also need the 120+ GBPS memory BW versus the 76 GBPS of E5-V4 and sincerely, folks, in 2026, you also need:
AVX, AVX2, AVX-512 - even if the later is among the forst versions ( well second actually
)
That wasn't criticizing your decisions and your route in any way. I trust your competence (as I've experienced it). My point was about "more cores!", "faster cores!", and "more RAM!" because all of that is simply irrelevant for most use cases.
I perfectly got that, I just underlined for the Folks why we choose XSG2 over E5-V4.
Lucky "bastards" on XSG2 can relax, as the next leap will be XSG4 DDR5 and will take a while to get there.
Slide in my DMs when you have decided.
I am (glaze glaze glaze) extremely happy with my storage VPS and more storage would be lovely.
Seriously people, Layer7 has treated me better than I deserve lol.
Hmmmmm, what did you do that you needed special treatment???? never-mind, forgot I asked
After looking at my tickets, you are correct about the 5TB VPS. I must have been thinking of the 10TB version. For this one, there was no increase in RAM.
In any case, I accepted the move to the new platform at the new prices, because there wasn't really a choice if I wanted to retain the servers. The price is still reasonable, and they've been stable over time.
Unlucky in employment, love, life - lucky in deals? xD
I still need more @host_c boxes. Because reasons. Or Something.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You already have like 30 instance with @host_c. Gotta ask them for custom plan 1c,128MB,1GB ipv6 only
MOAR
I mean he already did these during the last fat32 thing, close enough
Will do something new shortly.
The server is already in the office
2x XSG2 6230, 386 GB RAM, 6.4 TB NVME......... to be continued........
GLORIOUS
Pre-booking for $7/y
Could this be another option for Pioneer users or no storage drives on these?
I am suddenly buying a ticket to Romania.
Are there any storage vps's still available?
So, $10k in gears?
Well Internxt promised a lot of things like WebDAV when they sold on here, and now they're not letting those of us who bought use it now that they finally got things done years after the fact. As far as it being a dumb bucket of storage though, yeah, it's been that.
